Roki Sasaki Officially Added To 40-Man Roster

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Roki Sasaki was officially added to the 40-man roster on Monday ahead of the team's Tokyo Series set to run March 18-19. This was expected all along, but the move was more of a formality. Baseball's No.1-ranked prospect tossed seven innings of scoreless ball in Cactus League action, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out seven batters. He's expected to start Game 2 in Japan against the Cubs, and we'll get our first chance to see him in a regular season game, but even if he pitches well, don't expect him to go deep into the contest. Looking ahead, the 23-year-old should be a solid source of wins, ERA, WHIP, and strikeouts for fantasy this season, but some caution is warranted as he very well could face workload restrictions throughout the year.

Roki Sasaki To Start Game 2 In Japan

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially announced on Tuesday that Japanese rookie right-hander Roki Sasaki will start Game 2 in Tokyo, Japan, on March 19 against the Chicago Cubs. Sasaki was expected all along to start one of the games in his native Japan to kick the 2025 season off, but now it's official. The 23-year-old made just his second Cactus League appearance in the team's final spring training game on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels and looked good by giving up one hit, walking two and striking out two in four scoreless innings of work. Sasaki certainly has the stuff to succeed with the Dodgers and for fantasy managers as a No. 2 starting pitcher in his first year in the big leagues, but the Cubs won't be the greatest matchup out of the gates, and Sasaki might be lucky to go four innings. The stuff is legitimate, but workload restrictions could keep him from reaching his true potential in Year 1.

Roki Sasaki Strikes Out Five In Spring Debut

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Roki Sasaki made his much-anticipated spring debut in Tuesday's 4-2 Cactus League win over the Reds. MLBs No. 1-ranked prospect overall after coming over from Japan's NPB came on in relief of starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto and logged three innings of work. The appearance did not disappoint and reassured those who may have drafted the him already. Over the three innings, Sasaki yielded two hits and a walk while striking out five batters as he hit 99-plus mph on the radar gun multiple times. The righty is expected to make his regular season debut during the Tokyo Series that runs March 18-19. He looks fairly priced right now around his NFBC ADP of 97, right where RotoBaller ranks the 23-year-old.

Roki Sasaki Making Spring Debut On Tuesday

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Roki Sasaki is set to make his spring debut on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds. Sasaki will enter the game after starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto starts the game. Sasaki was able to throw three innings in a simulated game earlier in the week and will now make his professional debut. Earlier in the offseason, the Dodgers signed Sasaki earlier in the offseason. The overseas star is set to make his regular season debut in the Tokyo series against the Chicago Cubs. In the 2024 season, the hard-throwing right-hander struck out 129 batters across 111 innings of work in the NPB. He posted a strong 2.35 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. Sasaki will join a Dodger rotation that also welcomed former two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell. Fantasy managers should expect Sasaki to open the season in the rotation and carry high strikeout upside in his debut campaign.

Roki Sasaki Could Make Spring Debut On Tuesday

Although nothing is finalized, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki could "potentially" make his Cactus League debut on Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds. The news comes after Sasaki had a three-inning simulated game against Chicago White Sox hitters on Tuesday in which he allowed two home runs. The 23-year-old rookie is expected to start on March 19 in the second game of the season in Tokyo, Japan, against the Chicago Cubs, although he could be on a short leash in that one and early on in his first year in the big leagues. Sasaki will be fantasy relevant in all leagues in his first taste of major-league hitters and he features a nasty splitter. There's definitely ace upside here, but durability could be an issue since he hasn't thrown more than 129 1/3 innings in a season while dealing with some injuries. He'll be a risk/reward low-end No. 2 fantasy starter in his rookie season.

Roki Sasaki's Fastball Clocking In At Mid-90s In Simulated Game

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Roki Sasaki pitched in a simulated game on Tuesday, and his fastball clocked in at "mid-90s," which is where the Dodgers anticipated he'd be at this early stage of the season. He's expected to pitch and make his MLB debut in the second game of the Tokyo Series on March 19 against the Chicago Cubs. Signed in the offseason out of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan, Sasaki's fastball can touch triple digits, but he also offers a devastating splitter in the 88-90 mph range that coaxes eye-popping whiff rates. The 23-year-old has ace-like potential, and the transition to MLB should not be too challenging. Expect the righty to offer solid ERA and WHIP with strong strikeout potential, with ATC projections forecasting 154 strikeouts in 131 innings in 2025. With an NFBC ADP around 95, there could still be some value there if he hits his projections, and RotoBaller ranks the future star at 76 overall, so don't hesitate to draft him if you get the opportunity in those early middle rounds.

Roki Sasaki To Make Cactus League Debut Next Week

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Japanese right-handed rookie Roki Sasaki will make his Cactus League debut sometime in the middle of next week. Fans can't wait to get a look at the next Japanese phenom, but they won't have to wait much longer. Fellow countryman Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been tabbed to open the regular season on March 18 in Tokyo, Japan, against the Chicago Cubs, but Sasaki is expected to get the nod for the second game of the series on March 19. The 23-year-old is going to be an immediate fantasy asset in his first year in the States with the reigning World Series champions, and although he should be targeted as a No. 2/3 fantasy starter, he doesn't come without questions about his durability. Sasaki has never thrown more than 129 1/3 innings in a season, and the Dodgers will be sure not to overwork him in 2025.

Roki Sasaki Faces Hitters For First Time In Camp

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki faced hitters for the first time in camp on Wednesday and threw two innings of live batting practice, recording two strikeouts. Sasaki also surrendered two line-drive hits to Tommy Edman and David Bote. The 23-year-old comes with plenty of fanfare in 2025 as the most-prized international signing of the offseason. He's expected to pitch in the second regular-season game on March 19 in Tokyo, Japan, against the Chicago Cubs and will have immediate fantasy appeal as a low-end No. 2 fantasy starter in his first year in MLB. Sasaki will have the best offense in baseball backing him, but he doesn't come without bust potential given his durability concerns. He has some of the best stuff in the world for a young pitcher, but Sasaki hasn't thrown more than 129 1/3 innings (back in 2022), and the Dodgers will surely keep an eye on his workload.

Dodgers Plan To Use Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki In Tokyo Series

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on MLB Network that the team's plan is to use both Japanese right-handers Yoshinobu Yamamoto and rookie Roki Sasaki in the season-opening series from March 18-19 in Tokyo, Japan, against the Chicago Cubs. "The expectation is for both those guys to pitch," Roberts said. It's likely that Yamamoto will take the hill in the first game and matchup against Cubs lefty Shota Imanaga, with Sasaki going in Game 2. Yamamoto, who looked really good in his first year in the big leagues in 2024, should be considered a low-end No. 1 fantasy starter going into his sophomore season, with Sasaki being more of a low-end No. 2 starter given question marks about his durability as he makes the transition to the States. While the Dodgers are saying they won't have any restrictions on the 23-year-old to begin the year, you have to imagine at some point they'll be monitoring Sasaki's innings.

Dodgers Won't Place Any Restrictions On Roki Sasaki

ESPN's Alden Gonzalez writes that while the Los Angeles Dodgers will closely monitor Japanese rookie right-hander Roki Sasaki in his first year in the big leagues in 2025, they won't put any restrictions on him. Gonzalez is eager to see how one of the most lauded pitching development programs goes about extracting greatness from Sasaki. With a nasty splitter, Sasaki should immediately have plenty of fantasy appeal with the World Champion Dodgers, and RotoBaller has the 23-year-old ranked as the No. 21 fantasy starting pitcher before ever throwing a pitch in the majors. Durability could be an issue, though, as Sasaki dealt with arm and oblique injuries the last two years in Japan and topped out at 129 1/3 innings in 2022. He's healthy entering spring training, but it's hard to believe that the Dodgers won't monitor his workload eventually in 2025.
