Gavin Stone News
Los Angeles Dodger top pitching prospect Gavin Stone went four hitless innings pitched in his Triple-A debut for Oklahoma City on Friday. Stone stuck out four, walked two, and hit two batters. Stone, the Dodgers' seventh-ranked prospect as per MLB Pipeline (and 81st-ranked prospect in all of MLB) has skyrocketed up prospect rankings over the past year. Stone owns an impressive 1.50 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 139 strikeouts over 102 1/3 innings pitched in 21 games (20 starts) over three minor league levels in 2022. Stone offers high strikeout upside and four-pitch selections, including an above-average fastball that tops out in the high 90s. He should be rostered in all dynasty formats and should be on the radar of redraft managers in 2023 as a potential late-round option.
Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect Gavin Stone suffered a loss on Friday, but still put together another impressive performance for Double-A Tulsa. Arguably the top pitching prospect in a talented Dodgers system, Stone fired five innings and allowed six hits, three runs, two walks and struck out 11 on the evening. The 23-year-old has been nearly unhittable this season and is 7-5 with a sparkling 1.56 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings. With Clayton Kershaw (back) sidelined and Ryan Pepiot struggling in his most recent start, it would seem that it's possible that Stone could get a chance, but there are no guarantees. If promoted, Stone is absolutely worth taking a chance on in redraft leagues, but his best value remains in dynasty leagues at the moment.
Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect Gavin Stone thrived in his debut for Double-A Tulsa on Tuesday. Making his previous six starts for High-A Great Lakes, Stone didn't miss a beat in his promotion and fired five innings. He allowed five hits, zero runs, zero walks and struck out eight on the evening. A fifth-round selection in 2020, Stone has developed a three-pitch arsenal to go along with increased velocity during his time in the Dodgers system. Between High-A and Double-A, Stone is now 2-1 with a 1.20 ERA and 36 strikeouts to go along with six walks over seven starts. Stone's quickest way to the big leagues would likely be in a bullpen role at the moment, but managers in dynasty leagues should keep tabs on his progress as he rises through the system.
