New York Mets infielder/prospect Gavin Cecchini was hit in the foot by a pitch on Wednesday while playing for Triple-A Las Vegas; hes set to get an x-ray on Thursday. Cecchini needed to be helped off the field, not good. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic 2018 thus far, slashing .294/.342/.468 with two home runs, 11 doubles, and one triple across 30 games. Any missed time would be crushing for him given that hes finally starting to breakout a bit. The Mets first round pick in 2012, for most of his minor league career Cecchini has been known more for his glove than his bat. However, in recent years his defense has taken a hit seemingly in favor of his production at the plate hes not going to top any prospect lists, but hes hit better than expected at points. He likely isnt worth much of a hold in any league.
On Wednesday night against the New York Yankees, the New York Mets started catcher Travis d'Arnaud at third base for the first time in his career due to injuries to the various other infielders (Jose Reyes, Wilmer Flores) they've been using. Throughout that game, d'Arnaud and shortstop/second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera flipped between the hot corner and second base a total of 22 times, depending on what side of the plate the current hitter batted from. With the team's Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, it's not always easy for the Mets to get replacements to Queens in time (typical Mets). As such, the replacements they did call up – infielders Gavin Cecchini and Matt Reynolds, will be up in time for Thursday's finale against the Yankees. Neither should carry much fantasy value, although they've both had success in the minors from time-to-time.
