Jason Adam News
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Jason Adam won his salary arbitration case against the team on Saturday and will make $1.775 million instead of the $1.55 million that the Rays offered. Despite the deal, the Rays could work out a contract extension for the 31-year-old pitcher this spring. In his first year with the Rays last season, Adam had a career-best 1.56 ERA (2.86 FIP), 0.76 WHIP, his first eight career saves and a career-high 75 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings pitched in 67 relief appearances. Adam will have to compete with Pete Fairbanks for saves in Tampa in 2023, but there's a good chance he'll see even more save opportunities after an excellent year in 2022, pushing his fantasy needle to the upward position.
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam blew the save and was hit with the loss in the 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. In his inning of work, Adam allowed two earned runs on two hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out one. He entered the game in the eighth inning with a one-run lead but allowed a two-run bomb to shortstop Bo Bichette to lose the game. It was a hiccup in an otherwise excellent season for the 31-year-old right-hander, as he's posted a 1.54 ERA (2.83 FIP), a 0.69 WHIP, eight saves and 71 strikeouts in 58 1/3 relief innings for the Rays. He should continue to be Tampa's top setup man behind Pete Fairbanks despite Monday's subpar outing.
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam was handed his third loss of the season in Monday's 3-2 game against the Blue Jays. Adam came in to pitch the eighth inning up by one. He allowed a leadoff single, got the first two outs on a groundout and strikeout, but then allowed a two-run home run before getting the final out on another groundout. The game ended with that score, making Adam the pitcher of record. Adam has been one of the many relievers used in high-leverage situations by the Rays this season and is now 2-3 with eight saves, 20 holds, and a 1.54 ERA. The lack of a defined role does limit his fantasy value in shallower leagues, but he is worth a look in all deeper leagues.
