Jason Adam Expected to Miss 6-9 Months

San Diego Padres right-handed reliever Jason Adam (quadriceps) had surgery on Sept. 3 and has a timetable for recovery of six to nine months, according to MLB.com. Adam felt his quadriceps muscle pop while trying to make a play on a ball on Sept. 1 against the Baltimore Orioles and was carted off the field before eventually being diagnosed with a season-ending left-quadriceps tendon rupture. The 34-year-old veteran will not be ready for the start of spring training next February and probably won't be ready for Opening Day, either. Losing Adam for the rest of 2025 was a huge blow to the Padres' relief corps, but San Diego's bullpen is still one of the best in baseball. Adam was one of the best all-around relievers in baseball this year before his injury, posting a 1.93 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 70 strikeouts, and 30 holds in 65 1/3 innings pitched.

Jason Adam to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery

San Diego Padres right-handed reliever Jason Adam (quadriceps) will undergo season-ending surgery on his ruptured left quadriceps tendon on Wednesday. Adam will require six to nine months to recover, which could keep him out for the beginning of the 2026 campaign. The 34-year-old suffered the injury reacting to a ground ball in a 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday and had to be carted off the field. It'll bring an unfortunate end to a terrific year for Adam, an integral part of the Padres' bullpen. He made 65 appearances for the club this season and went 8-4 with a 1.93 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, 70:25 K:BB, and 29 holds in 65 1/3 innings. Fortunately for the Padres, they still have a well-stocked bullpen with Mason Miller, Adrian Morejon, and Jeremiah Estrada setting up closer Robert Suarez.

Jason Adam Diagnosed With Ruptured Left Quadriceps Tendon

San Diego Padres reliever Jason Adam (quadriceps) ruptured his left quadriceps tendon in a 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, manager Mike Shildt announced. Adam's leg buckled, causing him to collapse, after Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson hit a ground ball up the middle in the top of the seventh inning. The right-hander was in obvious pain and had to be carted off the field. Adam said he's likely to miss six to nine months if an MRI confirms the rupture, but he's hopeful he'll be ready for spring training in 2026, according to Andres Soto of MLB.com. Assuming Adam is done for 2025, it's a horrific ending to a great season for the 34-year-old. He appeared in 65 games and went 8-4 with a 1.93 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, 70:25 K:BB, and 29 holds in 64 2/3 innings. With fellow high-leverage relievers Mason Miller, Adrian Morejon, and Jeremiah Estrada still around to set up closer Robert Suarez, the back end of the Padres' bullpen remains in good shape. Nevertheless, losing Adam is a significant blow to a San Diego team that's trying to chase down the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West or at least earn a wild-card berth.

Jason Adam Headed To San Diego

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam is being traded to the San Diego Padres, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. In return, the Rays will acquire starting pitching prospect Dylan Lesko, outfield prospect Homer Bush Jr., and catching prospect J.D. Gonzalez. These three prospects were considered the third, eighth, and twelfth best in the San Diego system, respectively, on MLB.com. Adam is one of the better high-leverage relief pitchers in the game, as he sits with a strong 2.49 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. He boasts a 35.2% whiff rate and 27.8% K rate, which place him near the top among all pitchers. The Padres will likely deploy Adam in the eighth inning to serve as the set-up man for Robert Suarez. Adam is worth adding in leagues that score holds as he should have plenty of opportunities to enter the game with a lead pitching on a San Diego team that is eyeing to compete this fall. The Rays acquired three strong prospects and are quickly making the case to have one of the best systems in the sport.

Jason Adam Picks Up Save Monday Night

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam worked around a walk with three strikeouts in Monday's 5-3 win over the Boston Red Sox to earn his third save of the season. The 32-year-old right-hander has been Tampa Bay's best reliever on the season with an excellent stat line of 1.47 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and a .138 batting average allowed. It's important to note that the regular closer, Pete Fairbanks (finger), was unavailable due to a cut on his finger. If Adam keeps this dominance up and Fairbanks' early season struggles continue, don't be surprised if Kevin Cash turns this bullpen into a closer-by-committee situation or, better yet, Adam takes over as the everyday Tampa Bay closer.

Jason Adam Manages Save Monday

It wasn't pretty, but Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam picked up his first save of the season in Monday's 1-0 win over the Brewers. Adam came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by one. He allowed a leadoff double, got the first out on a line-out, allowed a walk, allowed a double steal, got the second out on a past-ball strikeout where the runners were held due to batter's interference, hit a batter to load the bases, and finally ended things with a strikeout. The 32-year-old racked up 12 saves last season when Pete Fairbanks (hand) was on the injured list, and Fairbanks is now serving a stint with a hand injury. Given his history serving as interim closer, Adam is worth rostering in at least all roto leagues at this time.

Jason Adam Loses Arbitration Case With Rays

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Jason Adam lost his salary arbitration case against the team on Tuesday. As a result, he'll earn $2.7 million in 2024 instead of the $3.25 million that he filed for. This was Adam's second year of arbitration eligibility. The 32-year-old reliever has been very reliable out of the bullpen for the Rays the last two seasons, going a combined 6-5 with a 2.22 ERA (3.38 FIP), a 0.87 WHIP, 20 saves, 37 walks and 144 strikeouts in 117 2/3 relief innings. Pete Fairbanks will open the year as Tampa's primary closer, but Adam should remain fantasy relevant in leagues that count holds as a high-leverage, late-inning reliever. Adam picked up 11 holds and 12 saves in his sixth major-league season in 2023.

Jason Adam Dealing With Oblique Discomfort

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam (oblique) is headed for imaging after experiencing oblique discomfort during Friday's 6-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. The right-hander just returned from a multi-week absence with an oblique strain, but this pain is in a different area and apparently more severe. Adam has been an invaluable member of Tampa Bay's bullpen in 2023, attaining a 2.98 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 69:20 K:BB with 12 saves across 54 1/3 innings, so it would be a big loss if he's facing another extended absence. Fantasy managers may want to prepare for the 32-year-old to be done for the remainder of the regular year as the Rays keep an eye toward the playoffs.

Jason Adam Leaves With Apparent Injury

Tampa Bay Rays reliever Jason Adam left Friday night's game early. The early exit is thought to be because of injury, as he left with the trainer. This was the first appearance for Adam after recovering from an oblique strain. The righty has been an integral part of the Rays bullpen and of fantasy teams. He's picked up 12 saves on the year with a 2.98 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 69 strikeouts over 54 1/2 innings.

Jason Adam Back From The Injured List

The Tampa Bay Rays reinstated right-hander Jason Adam (oblique) from the 15-day injured list on Thursday and optioned left-hander Jalen Beeks to Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. Adam was on the shelf for three weeks due to a left-oblique strain but is now back with the Rays and ready to rejoin their bullpen for the stretch run and the postseason. The 32-year-old veteran has been great for Tampa as a high-leverage reliever in 2023 when he's been healthy, going 4-2 with a strong 2.67 ERA (3.76 FIP), 0.96 WHIP, a career-high 12 saves, 20 walks and 69 strikeouts in 54 relief innings. Adam may not see many more save opportunities the rest of the way, but he could be an asset in holds leagues again now that he's back.
