Jeff Locke Designated For Assignment After Disastrous Outing
Jeff Locke was so incredibly bad on Friday night that the Miami Marlins designated him for assignment on Saturday. Locke, who came into Friday's tilt with an 0-4 record, was destroyed for 11 earned runs in less than three innings of work. Yes, you read that correctly. After spending the last few years in Pittsburgh, Locke was brought in to help stabilize Miami's rotation. Injuries and bad pitching, however, prevented him from doing so. He's 0-5 with an 8.16 ERA on the season and is officially on the hunt for a new team.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jeff Locke was surprisingly good in his Marlins debut last week against the Diamondbacks, and he'll look to keep that momentum going against the Cubs on Tuesday. Locke, who signed with the Marlins in the offseason after spending the last few seasons in Pittsburgh, struck out seven batters and gave up a single run in 5 2/3 innings of work in his debut. He was saddled with a no-decision but looked much better than he did last season. While Locke may be a possible waiver wire target going forward, he should be avoided at all costs in this matchup against Chicago. Last year, Locke went 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA against the Cubs and finished the season with a colossal 7.16 ERA on the road.
Jeff Locke Scheduled to Start Thursday for Marlins
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jeff Locke, one of several pitching acquisitions by Miami this offseason, will finally make his Marlins debut on Thursday. Starter Vance Worley, who made two lackluster starts, will move back to the bullpen. Locke (shoulder) has been on the 10-day disabled list all season with tendinitis in his left shoulder. He's looked good in four rehab starts, posting an ERA of 1.77 with 22 strikeouts and two walks in 20 1/3 innings. Locke was an All-Star in 2013 with Pittsburgh, but his ERA has risen every year since then, up to 5.44 in 2016. He will be a fifth starter for Miami and shouldn't be in fantasy rotations for the time being.
