Jesse Scholtens Pulled Off Rehab Assignment

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jesse Scholtens (elbow) was pulled off his minor league rehab assignment earlier this month because of discomfort in his pitching elbow. Scholtens missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in February 2024. He returned this year to combine for 22 2/3 innings of 5.96 ERA ball at the High-A and Triple-A levels before succumbing to more elbow troubles. Now 31 years old, Scholtens made it to the majors for the first time in 2023 and recorded a 5.29 ERA with 6.14 K/9 and 3.18 BB/9 over 85 innings (26 appearances, 11 starts).

Jesse Scholtens Begins Rehab Assignment

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jesse Scholtens (elbow) made his first start since the 2023 season on Tuesday with High-A Winston-Salem to start his minor-league rehab assignment and gave up three earned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two in three innings of work. Scholtens had Tommy John surgery and missed the entire 2024 season, but he's now working his way back and pitching in games again. It's possible that he'll be ready around the All-Star break, but even with the lowly White Sox, he won't be guaranteed a starting-rotation spot when he's ready to roll. The 31-year-old veteran worked as a swing man for the Pale Hose when he debuted in 2023 and wasn't very effective, sporting a 5.29 ERA (5.31 FIP), a 1.53 WHIP, one save, 58 strikeouts and 30 walks in 85 innings pitched over 26 outings (11 starts).

Jesse Scholtens Done For Season With Torn UCL

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jesse Scholtens (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list on Tuesday and is scheduled to have surgery to fix a torn UCL in his right elbow on Friday. The 29-year-old will in turn miss all of the 2024 season. The move to place Scholtens on the 60-day IL was made to open up a 40-man roster spot after the team acquired left-hander Bailey Horn from the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday in exchange for right-hander Matthew Thompson. Scholtens also ended last year on the injured list due to a calf strain. The former ninth-round pick of the Padres in 2016 out of Wright State made his big-league debut for the Pale Hose last year and had a 5.29 ERA, a 1.53 WHIP, his first career save, 30 walks and 58 strikeouts in 85 innings over 26 appearances (11 starts). We won't see him again until 2025.

Jesse Scholtens Looking To Bounce Back Thursday Versus Athletics

Chicago White Sox pitcher Jesse Scholtens is looking to bounce back Thursday when he takes on the Oakland A's at home. The right-hander endured a tough outing his last time out versus the Rockies as he allowed five earned runs while walking five batters in just three innings of work at Coors Field. Despite the tough outing, Scholtens owns a solid 3.79 ERA on the season, although his 4.99 SIERA and a weak 8% K-BB% suggest he should see further regression on the horizon. Scholtens has also posted a 4.44 ERA and 5.07 FIP across nine starts at the Triple-A level this season. His bounce-back opportunity couldn't be better on Thursday as he takes on an A's offense that sits dead last with a .291 wOBA versus right-handed pitching this season.

Jesse Scholtens Notches First Save

Chicago White Sox Jesse Scholtens struck out one over a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. He entered the game in the 10th inning to protect a one-run lead. The 29-year-old tossed a perfect frame to notch his first save of the year. He was recently recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday to give the White Sox an additional arm to the bullpen. With Joe Kelly and Kendall Graveman unavailable Saturday due to pitching back-to-back games, Chicago turned to Scholtens. Graveman is the favorite to close for the White Sox with Liam Hendriks (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list, and fantasy managers searching for saves should look to add him despite Scholtens securing the save Saturday.

Jesse Scholtens Recalled From Triple-A

The Chicago White Sox recalled right-hander Jesse Scholtens from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. He will take the roster spot of right-hander Mike Clevinger (wrist), who was placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 18) on Sunday with right-wrist inflammation. Scholtens is expected to take Clevinger's spot in the team's starting rotation, and he's likely to be lined up to make his first big-league start on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers. In two relief innings for Chicago this year, the 29-year-old has given up two runs (one earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out four in three innings. Scholtens had a 3.99 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 42 K's in seven starts on the farm, and he'll be worth a look in AL-only leagues in the short term if you're in need of pitching depth.
