Boston Red Sox third baseman Jhonny Peralta was released on Thursday. Peralta had spent his entire time with the Triple-A affiliate Pawtucket. In 41 plate appearances Peralta managed to hit just .200 with four runs and five RBI while striking out 11 times. The veteran was signed June 23 to provide emergency depth at third base. With call-ups Deven Marrero and Tzu-Wei Lin filling in admirably for the big club the Peralta experiment is over. The move will also open up a roster spot for standout prospect Rafael Devers to be promoted.
