Rockies Re-Sign Jhoulys Chacin

The Colorado Rockies have re-signed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin to a one-year deal, according to The Gazette's Danielle Allentuck. Chacin mostly pitched as a reliever last season for Colorado, turning in a 4.34 ERA and a 4.63 FIP in 64 1/3 innings. The veteran recorded 17 holds while also registering 47 strikeouts and 28 walks. He didn't record a save last season, as most of Colorado's save opportunities went to either Daniel Bard or Carlos Estevez. In addition to Chacin, Bard and Estevez, the Rockies current bullpen options include Robert Stephenson, Lucas Gilbreath, Jordan Sheffieldand Tyler Kinley.

Jhoulys Chacin Activated From The COVID Injured List

Colorado Rockies pitcher Jhoulys Chacin (undisclosed) was activated from the COVID-19 list on Wednesday. He threw a simulated game Tuesday and was cleared to rejoin the team. The 33-year-old had been sidelined since July 16. He will replace Chi Chi Gonzalez in the rotation, who was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday. Chacin owns a 4.72 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and a 27:16 K: BB across 34 1/3 innings in 2021. The Rockies right-hander can be left on the waiver wire in most league formats.

Jhoulys Chacin Doesn't Factor Into Decision On Saturday

Colorado Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin took a no-decision on Saturday when he allowed two runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts over four innings in a 6-5 loss to the Reds. Chacin did a solid job holding down the powerful Cincinnati offense on Saturday. Both runs he allowed came via a Nick Castellano homer in the top of the third inning. Other than that, he limited the Reds offense while one and punching out three. This was Chacin's first start of the season and he'll probably get another one based on this performance. He'll likely swing between the bullpen and the starting rotation throughout the rest of the year. His 5.51 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 16 1/3 innings leaves a lot to be desired, though. He's not a recommended fantasy option as a starter or a reliever.

Jhoulys Chacin Takes The Loss In Relief On Saturday

Colorado Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin was hit hard on Saturday vs. the Phillies, taking the loss in a 7-5 defeat. He lasted just 2/3 of an inning while surrendering three runs on two hits with two walks. Chacin was tasked with preserving a 4-4 tie in the top of the sixth inning but ran into trouble right away when Nick Maton laced a double off him and Roman Quinn drew a walk. Quinn was later caught stealing but then Chacin walked Andrew McCutchen and Rhys Hoskins busted the game open with a three-run home run, his second of the game. The Rockies were never able to reclaim the lead and Chacin took his first loss of the year. His return to Colorado has not gone very well so far with a 7.94 ERA, 2.29 WHIP, and 4:5 K/BB ratio over 5 2/3 innings of relief. There is zero fantasy appeal here.

Jhoulys Chacin Pitches Decently Well In Long Relief On Tuesday

Colorado Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 2 1/3 innings in a 7-0 shutout loss to the Dodgers. Chacin came on in relief of starter Antonio Senzatela, who was hit hard by the Dodgers to open the game. Chacin did a halfway decent job in relief, only allowing one run via a Max Muncy RBI double in the fourth inning. The 33-year-old now owns a 3.60 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, and 4:3 K/BB ratio over five innings of relief this year. He could join the starting rotation soon enough though with Senzatela and Chi Chi Gonzalez both being unreliable options for Colorado.

Jhoulys Chacin Expected To Sign With Rockies

Free agent pitcher Jhoulys Chacin, who was seen playing catch in front of Rockies coaches earlier on Wednesday, is expected to sign with the club per beat writer Thomas Harding. Chacin was released by the Yankees just two days ago and said that the team should sign him to a Major League contract, which would place him on the active roster for Thursday's Opening Day game vs. the Dodgers. The Rockies would have to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Chacin but have yet to announce who will be sent down. The 33-year-old RHP only appeared in two games with Braves last season but looked solid in the Grapefruit League over 9 1/3, mostly relief, innings with the Yanks. He was with the Rockies from 2009-2014 and should begin the season in their bullpen, where he could work high-leverage situations. He could also get the occasional spot start down the road.

Jhoulys Chacin Seen At Coors Field With Rockies Coaches

Free agent pitcher Jhoulys Chacin was seen playing catch in front of Rockies coaches at Coors Field on Wednesday, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports. Chacin was with the Yankees during Spring Training, and had a respectable performance with a 3.86 ERA and nine strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings of work primarily in relief. Harding says there is no word as to whether Chacin has signed a deal with the Rockies, but it's possible he could soon rejoin Colorado, where he experienced most of his career success at. If Chacin does sign with Colorado, he would likely be used primarily out of the bullpen now that a spot has opened up with Scott Oberg undergoing surgery to remove blood clots in his throwing arm. Chacin could be a decent add in that case in deeper SV/HLD formats.

Yankees Sign Jhoulys Chacin, Tyler Lyons, Socrates Brito

The New York Yankees signed right-hander Jhoulys Chacin, left-hander Tyler Lyons and outfielder Socrates Brito to minor league deals on Sunday. Chacin has 12 major league seasons under his belt and has thrown 1,324 innings, including 226 starts. The 33-year-old has a 6.06 ERA (75 ERA+) in 108 1/3 innings with the Brewers, Red Sox and Braves the last two seasons. But he had a 3.86 ERA (112 ERA+) from 2009-18 with the Rockies, Diamondbacks, Braves, Angels, Padres and Brewers. The 32-year-old Lyons has a lifetime 4.30 ERA in 162 outings (20 starts) for the Cardinals, Pirates and Yankees. Brito has put up a slash line of just .179/.216/.309 with five home runs in 218 career plate appearances for the Diamondbacks and Blue jays, but the 28-year-old has blazing speed and can play all three outfield positions.

Twins Add Jhoulys Chacin

The Minnesota Twins signed starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training on Sunday. Chacin was 3-12 with a rough 6.01 ERA with the Brewers and Red Sox in 2019, but the 32-year-old has been in the league for 11 years and should provide a nice veteran presence for the Twins, whether it be in the rotation or in relief. Michael Pineda will miss the first 39 games due to suspension and Rich Hill is recovering from elbow surgery and might not be ready until midseason, so there is an opportunity for Chacin to win a rotation spot to begin the year. In pitcher-friendly Minnesota, that could make Chacin attractive as a deep-league streamer.

Jhoulys Chacin Debuts for Red Sox Friday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin will make his debut on the mound for his new team on Friday. Chacin will get the nod against the New York Yankees here. Chacin went 3-10 with a 5.79 ERA before being released by the Milwaukee Brewers. The Red Sox may go to the bullpen early in this one. Chacin is not worth looking at as a streaming option.
