Kolby Allard, Joe Palumbo Optioned To Minors

Texas Rangers pitchers Kolby Allard and Joe Palumbo were optioned to the alternate training site on Wednesday. Both players entered the spring with solid opportunities to win opening day roles with the club. Allard was actually leading the club in innings pitched this spring with 11.2. He had a 3.86 ERA with a K-BB of 15-4. Last season, the southpaw appeared in 11 games, including eight starts, with the Rangers but posted an ugly 7.75 ERA with a K-BB of 32-20 in 33.2 innings. Palumbo, also a southpaw, appeared in just two games this spring and allowed three runs in two innings. He made just two appearances with the Rangers in 2020 and allowed three runs in 2.1 innings.

Joe Palumbo Punished In Second Career Start

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Joe Palumbo allowed seven earned runs, six hits and three walks with one strikeout over just two innings in a loss against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday in his second career start. He also hit a batter while managing first-pitch strikes to just six of the 15 batters he faced. Manager Chris Woodward said the Indians sat on Palumbo's fastball and apparently learned from studying his first start against the Oakland A's. If he remains with the big club, his next scheduled start would come next Tuesday in Detroit.

Joe Palumbo To Start For Rangers Wednesday

Texas Rangers pitcher Joe Palumbo will get the ball to start the game Wednesday against the Cleveland Indians. This will be his second career major league start for the young left-hander. Palumbo has appeared in one game for the Rangers this year, allowing four earned runs in four innings on June 8 against Oakland. In 10 starts at Double-A Frisco this year, Palumbo owned a 3.19 ERA with 69 strikeouts in 53 innings. Carrying a 10.5 K/9 in his minor league career, Palumbo has strikeout upside for fantasy owners, but beyond that does not have the profile of an impact starter in the big leagues.

Joe Palumbo To Make Debut In First Game Saturday

Texas Rangers pitching prospect Joe Palumbo will officially make his major league debut in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the A's on Saturday. The team's No. 7 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, is a left-hander who has a 3.38 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 11.5 K/9 in nine starts and one relief appearance at Double-A Frisco this season. This is likely to just be a spot start and Palumbo isn't expected to go long in the outing, so he makes for a streaming option to avoid in his big league debut this weekend.

Joe Palumbo Likely To Start Saturday

Texas Rangers starting pitching prospect Joe Palumbo is likely to be called up from Double-A Frisco to start one of the games of a doubleheader on Saturday against the A's. The 24-year-old, the team's No. 7 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has allowed five earned runs in 17 2/3 innings with seven walks and 21 strikeouts in his last four starts in the minors. The Rangers will likely ask Palumbo to go three or four innings and be followed by a right-hander. Overall at Frisco this year, the left-hander has a 3.38 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and impressive 11.5 K/9 over nine starts and one relief outing. Because he's unlikely to pitch deep into the game on Saturday, he makes for too risky of a fantasy streamer.

Rangers Place Joe Palumbo on 60-Day DL

Texas Rangers left-handed pitcher Joe Palumbo(elbow) was placed on the 60-day disabled list as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The move clears space on the 40-man roster for recent signee Jesse Chavez, as Palumbo is expected to miss at least the first two months of the season. Palumbo does not figure to be a fantasy asset in 2018.
