Corey Seager to Begin Rehab Assignment This Week

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment this week, according to manager Skip Schumaker. Seager was able to do some on-field work ahead of Sunday's game versus the Kansas City Royals. Barring any setbacks, Seager should be ready to begin playing in rehab games in the next few days. Seager has been sidelined since May 18 due to a lingering back issue. He could require a handful of games to shake off the rust before returning to the Rangers lineup. If everything goes well, Seager could be back in the big leagues by the end of next week. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for more updates on his status.

Corey Seager Faces Live BP and Fields Groundballs

Corey Seager (back) had a busy day on Saturday, facing live pitching and fielding ground balls as planned. Both Seager and manager Skip Schumaker were pleased with the results, as the 32-year-old shortstop appears to be making significant progress in his recovery. It remains unclear what the next steps will be. The 12-year veteran has been sidelined since May 13 with lower back inflammation and suffered a minor setback 10 days later. Given that setback, along with his extensive injury history, the Rangers may wait to see how his body responds to this demanding workout before determining the next phase of his recovery. Seager has struggled to begin the season, hitting .179 with seven home runs in his first 42 games.

Jacob Latz is Top Option for Saves in Arlington

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Jacob Latz appears to be running away with the closer job in Arlington. Latz earned his sixth save of the season when he recorded four outs to slam the door against the Houston Astros on Tuesday. He did allow a home run in that game, but he remains arguably the best bullpen arm in Texas right now. Latz owns a 2.16 ERA, 0.60 WHIP, and a 23:5 K:BB ratio across 25.0 innings of work this season. It seems like the Rangers are going to continue leaning on Latz as the closer until he gives them a reason to otherwise. Fantasy managers seeking bullpen help or a source of saves should snag Latz before it's too late.

Josh Jung Emerging as a Waiver Wire Target with Altered Plate Approach

Across 211 plate appearances so far this season, Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung is hitting .307/.365/.474 with six home runs, 22 RBI, 24 runs scored, and one stolen base. The 28-year-old's biggest barrier to success to this point in his career has been health, as he's never played more than 131 games or logged more than 515 plate appearances in a season. However, Jung has managed to stay on the field in 2026 and has established himself as a fixture in the heart of the Rangers' lineup. Jung has also drastically altered his approach at the plate, cutting his strikeout rate from 25.2% in 2025 to 14.7% so far this year. While Jung's improved contact rate makes his .307 batting average more believable, he's seemingly willingly sacrificing power. His current barrel rate of 6.2% is the worst mark of his career and may make it difficult for him to reach 20 homers, even if he stays healthy the rest of the way. Still, Jung has been an impact bat in 2026 and should continue to rack up counting stats as long as he stays on the field. In leagues where he's not already rostered, Jung profiles as a viable waiver wire target.

Ezequiel Duran Back From Illness on Thursday

Texas Rangers infielder Ezequiel Duran (illness) is feeling better on Thursday and is back in the starting lineup for the series finale against the visiting Houston Astros, starting at shortstop and batting seventh against Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti, according to MLB.com. Duran was pulled from Wednesday's loss to the Astros due to an illness, but he's back in there the very next day. The 27-year-old Dominican utility man doesn't have much power or speed, but he can rack up counting stats for fantasy managers in a variety of roles in Texas like he has been of late. Duran has been serving as the team's primary shortstop with Corey Seager (back) on the injured list, and he'll enter play on Thursday evening with a .279/.333/.456 slash line with a .789 OPS, four home runs, 26 RBI, 22 runs scored, and four steals in 47 games across 163 plate appearances in his fifth year in Texas. He's most valuable in fantasy because he's eligible at first, second, third, shortstop, and the outfield in Yahoo leagues. Duran is hitless in just three career at-bats against Arrighetti.

Jacob deGrom  • SP  •  Rangers

Jacob deGrom a Risky Buy-Low Candidate

Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom looked like his previous Cy Young self in April, going 2-1 with a 1.35 ERA (2.84 FIP), 33 strikeouts, and only seven walks in 26 2/3 innings over his five starts. Although he bounced back on Wednesday by allowing just two earned runs in six innings in a no-decision against the Houston Astros, it was tough sledding for the 37-year-old veteran in May, as he went 1-3 with a 5.72 ERA (5.61 FIP), 30 strikeouts, five walks, and nine home runs allowed in 28 1/3 frames across five starts. Overall, the two-time Cy Young winner has gone 3-4 with a 3.77 ERA (4.16 FIP) and 1.01 WHIP with 70 strikeouts, 12 walks, and a league-high 13 home runs allowed in 59 2/3 innings across 11 starts in his fourth year in Texas. deGrom surely isn't as bad as his numbers would suggest in May, but given his long track record of injuries, buying low on the veteran hurler won't be very attractive to risk-averse fantasy managers. In his three full seasons with the Rangers, deGrom has exceeded 100 innings just once, and he combined for 42 innings in the other two seasons.

Joc Pederson has Three Home Runs in his Last Two Games

Texas Rangers designated hitter Joc Pederson is starting to heat up at the plate. The 34-year-old left-handed slugger went 3-for-4 at the plate out of the leadoff spot on Wednesday night with two home runs and three RBI in the team's 4-3 loss to the visiting Houston Astros at Globe Life Park. Both of his home runs were of the solo variety, and Pederson has now gone deep three times in the last two games. In his last eight contests, he's gone 10-for-23 (.435) with three homers and six RBI to boost his season-long line to .250/.361/.430 with a .791 OPS, six home runs, 16 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 51 games across 156 plate appearances. Pederson has disappointed so far in his tenure with the Rangers, as he played in only 96 games in 2025 and hit nine home runs with 26 RBI in 306 plate appearances, but if he gets on a heater, he'll be worth a look off the waiver wire for his power production. Right now, Pederson is only rostered in 1% of Yahoo leagues, so he's widely available.

Ezequiel Duran Exits Early on Wednesday Due to Illness

Texas Rangers utility man Ezequiel Duran (illness) exited early from his team's game against the Houston Astros on Wednesday due to an illness, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Duran was hitless in two plate appearances before leaving the game. The 27-year-old has been a valuable stopgap piece for the Rangers so far this season, hitting .279/.333/.456 with four home runs, 26 RBI, 22 runs scored, and four stolen bases across 163 plate appearances. Duran is capable of lining up all over the field, but he's seen regular playing time at shortstop in recent weeks, with Rangers starting shortstop Corey Seager currently on the 10-day injured list due to a back injury. It does not seem as though Duran is in line for an extended absence. However, should he miss time, infielder/outfielder Michael Helman could be the next man up at shortstop for Texas.

Jake Burger a Waiver-Wire Target for Power After Strong May Performance

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger has cooled off slightly at the plate in recent days, but overall in May, he's hitting .284 (21-for-74) with five home runs, four doubles, 17 RBI, 14 runs scored, and even a stolen base in 21 games across 82 plate appearances. He's added a .354 on-base percentage, .541 slugging percentage, and an .894 OPS to raise his season slash line to .240/.289/.434 with a .723 OPS through 52 games and 211 plate appearances in his second year in Texas. Burger has 10 total home runs, 36 RBI, 25 runs scored, and one stolen base. The 30-year-old right-handed slugger hit a career-high 34 home runs with the Chicago White Sox and Miami Marlins in 2023 in his first full year in the big leagues, so he's certainly capable of providing relevant over-the-fence pop for fantasy managers. However, with a career OBP under .300 and a strikeout rate at 26.9% in his six years in the majors, Burger isn't going to help your team's average or OBP in the long run. But while he's swinging the bat well, he's a power option off the waiver wire if you need a corner infielder. Burger is available in 71% of Yahoo leagues.

Jacob Latz Earns Sixth Save, Continues to Hold Ninth-Inning Job

Rangers left-hander Jacob Latz recorded a four-out save for his sixth of the season on Tuesday, allowing a solo home run while striking out two to secure the victory. It was his fifth save opportunity in May, as Latz continues to emerge as the preferred ninth-inning option in Texas. The 29-year-old has excelled in high-leverage situations this season, posting a 2.16 ERA with a dominant 0.60 WHIP. Opponents also hold just a .166 expected batting average against him, largely due to his fastball, which ranks in the 98th percentile with a run value of nine. Latz appears to have full control of the closer role in his fifth season with the Rangers, making him an elite-level waiver wire target as save opportunities continue to increase.

Josh Jung Returns From Shoulder Injury to Face Houston on Tuesday

The Texas Rangers really missed third baseman Josh Jung (shoulder) when they were no-hit by three different pitchers in Monday's loss at Globe Life Field to the Houston Astros. Jung will re-enter the starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against Astros right-hander Jason Alexander after missing the last two games with a left-shoulder injury that he suffered on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels. He is back at third base and will hit cleanup on Tuesday. Fantasy managers will want to get the 28-year-old right-handed slugger back in their lineups in all traditional formats, as the former eighth overall pick out of Texas Tech in 2019 has been one of the most consistent hitters in baseball this year. He enters Tuesday's tilt against the Astros with a .302/.357/.462 slash line, .818 OPS, five home runs, 21 RBI, 22 runs, and a steal in 182 at-bats. Jung has only faced Alexander twice in his career, but he has a home run and two RBI against him.

Wyatt Langford Could Start a Rehab Assignment This Weekend

Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (forearm) said he will take batting practice on Monday with an eye on live batting practice on Friday. If that goes off without a hitch, Langford will likely embark on a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend, according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Langford has not played with the Rangers since April 21 and had a setback with his right-forearm injury while playing in extended spring training in late April, which is why he's still on the 10-day injured list. The 24-year-old former fourth overall pick out of the University of Florida in 2023 is making good progress of late, though, and could be reinstated from the IL at some point next week if he can avoid another setback this week. Langford still has intriguing power/speed upside despite all of his nagging injuries early in his career. He was hitting .238 (19-for-80) with only one homer in 20 games before his injury this year, but he slashed .247/.335/.423 with a .758 OPS, 38 homers, 136 RBI, and 41 stolen bases in his first two years in the big leagues for Texas.

Josh Jung Remains Out on Monday With Shoulder Soreness

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (shoulder) is not in the team's starting lineup for the second straight day due to left-shoulder soreness in Monday's series opener against the visiting Houston Astros, according to MLB.com. Ezequiel Duran is starting at third base and is batting cleanup, while Michael Helman will start at the 6 and hit ninth against Astros right-hander Tatsuya Imai. Jung is considered day-to-day after being pulled from Saturday's game in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels due to shoulder soreness. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Tuesday to see if Jung is ready to return to action for Game 2 of the series at Globe Life Field. Injuries have been an issue for the 28-year-old former eighth overall pick in 2019 out of Texas Tech, but the right-handed slugger has made some adjustments at the plate in 2026 and is hitting over .300 with five homers, 21 RBI, 22 runs, and a steal in 182 at-bats. Fantasy managers will be hoping that his minor shoulder injury won't slow him down.

Corey Seager to Miss Another Week

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) isn't scheduled to be re-evaluated for "probably" another week, according to Shawn McFarland. Seager was slated to face live pitching on Sunday, but that session was delayed due to his lack of progress in his recovery from his back injury. The Rangers were hopeful that Seager could return for the upcoming homestand that begins on Monday. That isn't going to happen, so fantasy managers are likely going to be without Seager for at least another week. The organization should continue to give updates on his status. The left-handed slugger hasn't suited up for a game since May 13 due to a back injury. Ezequiel Duran should continue to fill in until Seager is ready to play again.

Wyatt Langford is "Much Healthier Now"

Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (forearm) threw and hit on Friday for the first time in three weeks, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. Langford will do the same routine for another week or so before going on a minor-league rehab assignment. "It's much healthier now than it was when I was trying to come back the first time," Langford said. The 24-year-old is currently on the 10-day injured list and has not played since April 21 due to right-forearm soreness. Langford already had a setback with his forearm and was pulled from a rehab assignment. It's good news that he's swinging and throwing again, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to return until at least early June. The former fourth overall pick in 2023 out of the University of Florida has high-end power/speed upside in the outfield in Texas, but injuries have been piling up for him early in his career. He has only played in 20 games in 2026 and has hit .238 (19-for-80) with a homer, four RBI, three steals, and nine runs scored across 84 plate appearances. Langford is still rostered in 89% of Yahoo leagues, though, after hitting 38 home runs, driving in 136, and stealing 41 bases in 268 games in his first two years in the majors.

Corey Seager's Live Batting Practice Session Delayed

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) was scheduled to face live pitching on Sunday. That session has been postponed due to Seager not quite being where he needed to be in his recovery process. The Rangers are still figuring out the next steps for Seager, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect him back when first eligible. The organization was hopeful that Seager could be back for the upcoming homestand, but that seems doubtful to happen now. Fantasy managers should check back for another update on Seager in the coming days. Ezequiel Duran should continue seeing more at-bats while Seager is sidelined.

Josh Jung Departs Early with Shoulder Soreness

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (shoulder) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Jung was pulled out of the game in the fourth inning due to left shoulder soreness. Before exiting, Jung went 0-for-2 at the plate with a strikeout. Ezequiel Duran shifted over to third base and could see increased playing time over there if Jung misses time. The expectation is that Jung will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. For now, fantasy managers should consider Jung as day-to-day.

MacKenzie Gore Throws on Friday, Up in the Air for Next Start

Texas Rangers left-hander MacKenzie Gore (lat) will be re-evaluated after playing catch on Friday, according to MLB.com. No official announcement has been made about his next scheduled start. Gore is currently considered day-to-day after leaving his last start on Monday against the Colorado Rockies with left-lat tightness. However, an MRI exam came back negative, and reports have suggested that he could make his next turn in Texas' rotation for Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim. The 27-year-old southpaw was a first-time All-Star in 2025 with the Washington Nationals, but he has been hard to trust in fantasy so far in his first year with the Rangers, as he's gone 3-4 with a career-high 4.78 ERA (3.97 FIP) and 1.33 WHIP with 55 strikeouts and 24 walks in 49 innings pitched across 10 starts. Typically, we wouldn't recommend a struggling pitcher coming off an injury in fantasy, but if he makes his start on Sunday, he'll be hard to ignore in starting lineups against an Angels team with a .693 OPS.

Corey Seager Hoping to Return for Next Homestand

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) did some jogging at Angels Stadium and also did some stuff in the weight room before the game against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. Seager said it's "definitely the goal" to return for the next homestand, but he needs to see how his back responds to some workouts before he can do full baseball activities. Texas' next homestand begins on Monday against the Houston Astros and runs through Sunday, May 31, versus the Kansas City Royals. The 32-year-old veteran is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list on Monday, but it might take him a bit longer than that. Ezequiel Duran has been filling in at shortstop for the Rangers with Seager out. Although durability is a major concern at this point in his career, Seager is still rostered in over 90% of Yahoo leagues, even though he's hurt and is currently hitting just .179 (28-for-156) with seven home runs, 20 RBI, 22 runs scored, and a stolen base through his first 42 games in 2026.

Brandon Nimmo Back in the Lineup After Another Hamstring Scare

Texas Rangers outfielder Brandon Nimmo (hamstring) is starting in right field and batting third for Friday's series opener in Anaheim against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Grayson Rodriguez, according to MLB.com. Nimmo is ready to play following Thursday off day after he was pulled early yet again from Wednesday's contest in Denver against the Colorado Rockies. The 33-year-old veteran has been bothered by a nagging hamstring injury a few times this year, but it hasn't forced him to the injured list, surprisingly. The former first-rounder of the New York Mets in 2011 will return to a .273/.353/.421 slash line with a .773 OPS, five home runs, 16 RBI, 21 runs scored, and a stolen base in 47 games in his first year in Texas. When healthy, Nimmo is a multi-category contributor who bats near the top of the Rangers' batting order. He should be returned to starting fantasy lineups against Rodriguez, whom he has never faced in his career.
