Jonah Bride Agrees to Minor-League Deal With Rangers

Free-agent infielder Jonah Bride and the Texas Rangers agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to major-league spring training on Tuesday, a source told Jeff Passan of ESPN. The 29-year-old will reunite with new Rangers manager Skip Schumaker, for whom he had his best big-league season in 2024 with the Miami Marlins. Bride, a former 23rd-round pick by the Athletics in 2018 out of South Carolina, hit .276 (64-for-232) with 11 home runs, 39 RBI, and 30 runs scored in 71 games for the Fish in 2024. He hit a strong .281/.423/.453 in 43 games at Triple-A this year, but he struggled with a .435 OSP in 125 plate appearances with Miami and the Minnesota Twins this year. Bride will be auditioning for a roster spot with the Rangers in spring training, but he'll most likely open the 2026 season at Triple-A Round Rock as corner-infield insurance for Texas.

Brandon Nimmo Traded to Texas

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the New York Mets are trading outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers in exchange for second baseman Marcus Semien. Nimmo has spent his entire 10-year MLB career in Queens. Last season, the 32-year-old posted a .262/.324/.436 slash line with 25 long balls and 13 stolen bases. This was his third-straight campaign blasting at least 20 home runs and just the second-straight season in which he swiped double-digit bags. Under the hood, Nimmo held a .321 xwOBA with a .255 xBA, which placed him in the 47th and 54th percentiles among qualified hitters. In Texas, fantasy managers should expect Nimmo to see an everyday role in the outfield as the Rangers opted not to tender right fielder Adolis Garcia, who is testing free agency. In New York, Nimmo's departure could open up a spot on the Opening Day roster for budding outfield prospect Carson Benge.

Mets Have Not Approached Brandon Nimmo About Waiving No-Trade Clause

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo has seen his name thrown about in trade rumors early on this offseason. However, Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets have not "asked (Nimmo) or his representatives if he'd be willing to waive" his full no-trade clause. While that does not mean the team won't approach Nimmo at a later date to gauge his interest, Martino's report highlights that any trade talks are still in the preliminary stages. Across 652 plate appearances in 2025, Nimmo slashed .262/.324/.436 with 25 home runs, 92 RBI, 81 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases. The 32-year-old Nimmo has spent his entire 10-year MLB career with the Mets. Still, with five years and over $100 million remaining on his current contract, New York may be looking to move off Nimmo before he hits his mid-30s.

Jacob deGrom Named AL Comeback Player of the Year

Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom was named the American League Comeback Player of the Year for the 2025 season, according to MLB. deGrom exceeded expectations for the Rangers this year while coming off Tommy John surgery, even if they weren't able to return to the postseason. The 37-year-old ace had not pitched since April of 2023 before returning in September of 2024. He finished the year 12-8 with a 2.97 ERA and 0.92 WHIP, which trailed only Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal, who won back-to-back AL Cy Young awards, among qualified pitchers. deGrom's strong season earned him the fifth All-Star selection of his career, and he finished eighth in the AL Cy Young voting. Perhaps among the most surprising stats of the season was the fact that deGrom made 30 starts for the first time since 2019.

Sebastian Walcott Shut Down With Arm Fatigue in AFL

The Texas Rangers' top prospect, shortstop Sebastian Walcott (arm), has been shut down in the Arizona Fall League due to arm fatigue, according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. The Rangers plan to have Walcott rest and be evaluated in a few days. In the one game that Walcott played in at the AFL, he went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. As long as nothing serious is wrong with his arm, Walcott should be good to go for the start of spring training early next year. The 19-year-old spent the entire 2025 season at Double-A Frisco and hit .255/.355/.386 with a .741 OPS, 13 home runs, 59 RBI, 71 runs scored, and 32 stolen bases in 124 games for the Rough Riders. There's a lot to like about Walcott's profile. The 6-foot-4 infielder has produced high-end exit velocities, has great bat-to-ball skills, and lots of raw power at the plate at a premium position. He's the heir apparent to Corey Seager in Texas, but he could also be moved to third base or a corner-infield spot, if necessary.

Nathan Eovaldi  • SP  •  Rangers

Nathan Eovaldi has Hernia Surgery, Should be Ready for Spring Training

Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (hernia) underwent surgery on Wednesday for a sports hernia, baseball sources told Jeff Wilson of AllDlls.com. Eovaldi, who was excellent with a 1.73 ERA for the Rangers when he did pitch in 2025, was shut down in August with a rotator-cuff strain in his right shoulder. While it's more bad injury news for a player with a long list of injuries in his career, the good news is that Eovaldi is expected to be ready for the start of spring training next year in mid-February. Eovaldi got good news on his rotator cuff, so that shouldn't be an issue going into next season. He is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks, so he should be able to resume throwing in the offseason around when he normally does. If healthy, Eovaldi and Jacob deGrom are expected to sit at the top of Texas' rotation next year as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 campaign.

Marcus Semien  • 2B  •  Rangers

Marcus Semien Expected to Have Normal Offseason

Texas Rangers general manager Ross Fenstermaker said that injured second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) is expected to have a normal offseason this winter despite finishing the 2025 campaign on the injured list due to a fractured third metatarsal and a Lisfranc sprain in his left foot. Semien probably would have toughed it out and finished out the year, but the Rangers chose to shut him and shortstop Corey Seager (appendix) once they were out of playoff contention. He ended up missing the final month of the season, but it sounds like he'll be a full-go without any restrictions for the start of spring training in 2026. After playing in at least 159 games in each of the last six seasons, the 35-year-old Semien really started to show his age in his fourth year in Texas, hitting a career-low .230 (108-for-470) with 15 homers, 62 RBI, 62 runs, and 11 steals in 127 games.

Jake Burger  • 1B  •  Rangers

Jake Burger Having Offseason Wrist Surgery

Texas Rangers corner infielder Jake Burger (wrist) confirmed that he will have surgery later this week to fix a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist, according to the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant. Burger initially suffered a wrist injury in the middle of August, only a few days after he had returned from the injured list. It was an injury-plagued year for the power-hitting right-hander in his first year in Texas, as he was on the IL three different times with oblique, quadriceps, and wrist ailments. He received a cortisone injection in his wrist, but he felt "popping" in and out of place for the final few weeks of the season. It helps explain why he was in a 2-for-28 slump going into Sunday's regular-season finale. Burger was also sent to the minors after struggling in April. His metrics dropped across the board, although his injuries probably had something to do with it. Burger ended up in a platoon at first base with Rowdy Tellez to close out the year.

Wyatt Langford Placed on 10-Day Injured List

Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. This comes a day after Langford was removed after aggravating his left oblique issue. The Rangers have decided to shut him down for the rest of the season. They aren't playing for anything at this point, so they might as well let him rest. Langford will finish with a .241/.344/.431 slash line with 22 home runs, 62 RBI, and 22 steals in 134 games. In a corresponding move, outfielder Billy McKinney has been recalled to take Langford's spot on the active roster.

Wyatt Langford Exits Tuesday With Left-Side Tightness

Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (side) exited Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Twins in the fifth inning with left-side tightness, per MLB.com's Kennedi Landry. Langford went 0-for-2 before being pinch-hit for by Michael Helman. The 23-year-old has been dealing with side tightness and sat out of games over the past weekend. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for more news and for Wednesday's lineup announcement. Langford has put together a decent sophomore season overall, slashing .241/.344/.431 with 22 home runs, 73 runs scored, 62 RBI, and 22 stolen bases in 573 plate appearances.

Corey Seager, Marcus Semien Shut Down for Rest of the Season

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (abdomen) and second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) have officially been shut down for the remainder of the season, according to manager Bruce Bochy. MLB.com's Kennedi Landry explains that it was a long shot for either Seager or Semien to return this year, but they were both still rehabbing for a potential return if the postseason was within reach. Going into play on Tuesday with less than a week left in the regular season, the Rangers are five games back of both the Cleveland Guardians and Houston Astros for the final wild-card spot in the American League, so the playoffs aren't in the cards this year for Texas. Injuries prevented Seager from having his fourth straight 30-homer season, but he still finishes with a strong .271/.373/.487 slash line, .860 OPS, 21 home runs, and 50 RBI in 102 games played. Semien finished under 150 games played for the first time in a full season since 2017, and he hit a disappointing .230 (108-for-470) with 15 home runs, 62 RBI, and 11 steals.

Wyatt Langford Back in Lineup on Sunday

Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (side) is returning to the lineup for Sunday's series finale versus the Miami Marlins. After missing the first two games of the series with tightness in his side, Langford will play left field and bat second against right-hander Eury Perez as the Rangers try to avoid a sweep. Langford has gone a miserable 9-for-53 (.170) with one home run, four RBI, three stolen bases, and 17:12 K:BB in 15 games this month. Despite his September struggles, Langford has hit a respectable .241/.342/.427 with 21 homers, 61 RBI, 72 runs, and 21 steals in 567 plate appearances this year.

Merrill Kelly  • SP  •  Rangers

Merrill Kelly Will Start on Sunday

Texas Rangers right-hander Merrill Kelly will start on Sunday against the Miami Marlins, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Jacob Latz is listed as the Rangers' starter, but plans have changed after the left-hander threw 16 pitches and two-thirds of an inning in relief in a loss to the Marlins on Friday. Kelly will look to rebound after struggling through one of his worst starts of the season in a 6-5 loss to the Houston Astros on Sept. 16. The Astros knocked him around for six earned runs on nine hits and a walk over three innings. He'll enter Sunday's matchup with Miami 12-8 with a 3.46 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, and 163:48 K:BB across 179 2/3 frames. Kelly faced the Marlins twice this season while with the Arizona Diamondbacks and combined to allow four earned runs on nine hits and and two walks (with an impressive 16 strikeouts) in 11 innings.

Wyatt Langford Remains Out on Saturday

Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (side) is not in the starting lineup against the Miami Marlins on Saturday. Alejandro Osuna will handle left field and hit third versus right-hander Adam Mazur, while Michel Helman will play center and bat ninth. This is the second straight game off for Langford, who's day-to-day with side tightness. The 23-year-old has been on the 10-day injured list twice this season with oblique strains (one on each side). When healthy, Langford has hit an above-average .241/.342/.427 with 21 homers, 61 RBI, 72 runs, and 21 steals in 567 trips to the plate. Fantasy managers should check back on Sunday to see if Langford returns to the Rangers' lineup.

Wyatt Langford Day-to-Day With Side Tightness

Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (side) was out of the lineup for a 6-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Friday with "side tightness," manager Bruce Bochy said. Bochy added that Langford is day-to-day and may have to sit out Saturday's game. Side issues often lead to oblique injuries, which have been a problem for Langford this season. He has been on the 10-day IL twice this year with oblique strains (one on each side), giving the Rangers more incentive to play it safe with him. The 23-year-old has set career highs in homers (21) and stolen bases (21) while slashing .241/.342/.427 with 72 runs scored and 61 RBI in 567 plate appearances this season. Alejandro Osuna filled in for Langford in left field on Friday.

Tyler Mahle  • SP  •  Rangers

Tyler Mahle to Start on Friday

Texas Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (shoulder) will come off the 60-day injured list to start on Friday against the Miami Marlins, according to Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News. Mahle, who last pitched for the Rangers on June 10, has missed over three months with shoulder fatigue. The Rangers are convinced that the 30-year-old is ready to return after he looked sharp in his final rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Sept. 12. Mahle tossed four scoreless innings in that game, and while he only threw 52 pitches, manager Bruce Bochy believes he'll be good for 75 or more against the Marlins. Across 14 starts and 77 innings this season, Mahle has gone 6-3 with a 2.34 ERA (4.35 xERA), a 1.13 WHIP, 56 strikeouts, and 27 walks.

Corey Seager Does Light Jogging

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (abdomen) did some light jogging on the field on Monday, reports Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com. He has been out since August 27 after being diagnosed with appendicitis and undergoing an appendectomy. Bruce Bochy stated that the 31-year-old was still pretty sore, but that soreness figures to be the only thing holding him back from a return to the lineup. Don't expect an activation within the next few days, but Seager should be able to see the field at some point to close out the season. He's had a successful campaign when he is healthy, batting .271 with a .373 on-base percentage and 21 home runs in 102 games.

Marcus Semien Takes Batting Practice on Monday

Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) took batting practice on Monday at Daikin Park before the series opener against the division-rival Houston Astros, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. Semien is three and a half weeks removed from a broken left foot that he suffered in late August. The 34-year-old veteran is certainly making progress, but there's no timetable for his return at the moment while Texas battles for a wild-card spot in the American League. Until Semien can return, the Rangers will move forward with Cody Freeman as their primary starter at the keystone. Semien, a three-time All-Star, has struggled at the plate in 2025 for a second straight season, hitting .230 (108-for-470) with 15 home runs, his lowest total since the shortened 2020 campaign. Still, Texas would love to have him back for the stretch run.

Adolis Garcia Activated, Starting on Sunday

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia (quadriceps) was activated from the 10-day injured list and is in the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Mets. Garcia is in right field and batting cleanup after missing nearly two weeks of action due to a quad injury. It has been a down year for Garcia, but he remains a threat to go deep at any time. He has 18 home runs, 73 RBI, and 13 steals across 125 games this season. Fantasy managers who have Garcia rostered should get him activated on Sunday.

Shawn Armstrong Earns Ninth Save

Texas Rangers reliever Shawn Armstrong closed out a 3-2 win over the New York Mets on Saturday to record his ninth save of the season. The right-hander came on in relief of Phil Maton with one out and a runner on first in the bottom of the ninth inning. Armstrong allowed a single, but he struck out the other two hitters he faced (Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo) to secure the victory for the Rangers. Armstrong has converted all four of his save opportunities in September while giving up just one run in 6 2/3 innings. He owns a 2.43 ERA with a .83 WHIP, 66 strikeouts, and 19 walks over 66 2/3 frames this season.
