Jacob deGrom Will Start on Thursday

Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (triceps) will make the start on Thursday against the Washington Nationals, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. The Rangers pulled deGrom from his last start early last Thursday against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels after just two innings due to fatigue in his right triceps, but he has responded well since then and will toe the rubber against the Nats on Thursday. The 38-year-old veteran hurler still has enough strikeout upside to be relevant in nearly all fantasy baseball leagues, but a potential short leash on Thursday will limit his DFS upside against Washington as he returns from another injury. In his 23 starts for Texas this year over 120 2/3 innings pitched, the two-time Cy Young winner has gone 8-8 with a 3.95 ERA (3.25 FIP) and a 1.17 WHIP with 147 strikeouts and 31 walks. Fantasy managers need to keep in mind that he has not gone beyond five innings since his final start in June.

Jacob deGrom a Candidate to Start for Rangers on Thursday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (triceps) threw a successful bullpen session on Tuesday and is a candidate to start the Rangers matchup on Thursday against the Washington Nationals, per Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. deGrom was removed from his most recent start last Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels due to a triceps issue. However, it appears as though the veteran right-hander has avoided a serious injury and should soon be back on the mound. Across 120 2/3 innings (23 starts) on the year, deGrom has recorded an 8-8 record with a 3.95 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 147 strikeouts. While the 38-year-old is no longer the same dominant force he once was at his peak, deGrom has still posted an excellent 29.5% strikeout rate while allowing just a 6.2% walk rate. As long as he's active, deGrom profiles as a must-start starting pitcher for fantasy managers.

Good News for Jacob deGrom, But Unlikely to Make his Next Start

Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (triceps) got favorable results from an MRI exam on a right-triceps injury that forced him from his last start on Thursday against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels, according to Theo DeRosa of MLB.com. However, manager Skip Schumaker wasn't overly optimistic when asked about deGrom's chances to start on time against the Washington Nationals at Globe Life Field on Wednesday. "I guess it's possible," Schumaker said. "I don't know how realistic it is, but I think it's always possible. We haven't ruled it out completely." After missing nearly all of 2023 and 2024 after having Tommy John surgery, deGrom hasn't needed a stint on the injured list since. He was an All-Star in 2025 and has posted a 3.95 ERA in 23 starts in 2026. The 15-year veteran felt better on Saturday, but he has yet to resume playing catch, which makes it more unlikely he will start on Wednesday. deGrom is still rostered in almost 100% of Yahoo leagues, but he'll be riskier as a fantasy starter whenever he toes the rubber again. UPDATE: Per The Dallas Morning News' Shawn McFarland, Schumaker said that deGrom responded "really well" to playing catch on Sunday.

Jacob deGrom Pulled Early on Thursday With Triceps Fatigue

Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (triceps) left his start early on Thursday against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels with right-triceps fatigue, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. deGrom made it through only two innings in Anaheim, allowing two earned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three. Although the injury doesn't appear to be very serious, given deGrom's lengthy injury history, his next scheduled start next week against the Washington Nationals is very much up in the air. The 38-year-old veteran and two-time Cy Young winner came into his start on Thursday against the Angels with an 8-7 record, 3.87 ERA (3.27 FIP) and 1.13 WHIP with 144 strikeouts and 30 walks in 118 2/3 innings pitched across his 22 starts. He's been hit or miss in his last five starts, and he could be in danger of missing more time down the stretch due to injury. Although deGrom continues to be an injury risk, he came into Thursday's start with a nice 29.6% strikeout rate, which is why he's still rostered in nearly all of Yahoo leagues. UPDATE: MLB.com's Jacob Gurvis reports that deGrom is expected to undergo imaging on his right triceps on Friday.

Nathan Eovaldi Placed on 15-Day Injured List With Elbow Inflammation

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 9, on Monday, according to the team. Eovaldi will head to the shelf due to right posterior elbow inflammation. The good news is that it's not UCL-related, which is an encouraging sign. The assumption is that Eovaldi will undergo more testing in the coming days. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for a better timetable on his status. This season, Eovaldi owns a 4.21 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and a 137/32 K/BB ratio across 132.2 innings of work this season. Cal Quantrill will get the start in Eovaldi's place against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday

Jack Leiter Throwing Live BP on Saturday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter (ankle) is set to throw live batting practice on Saturday. The 26-year-old has been out of action since the middle of June with right ankle posterior impingement but is set to take a big step forward in his recovery with this planned session. The hope is that he can log around 45 pitches, which would give both him and the team confidence to begin a rehab assignment shortly afterward. The belief is that, if all goes according to plan, he may only need two rehab appearances, putting him in line to return by the end of August. With the Rangers having a potential opening at the back end of their bullpen, he would be a welcome addition for pitching stability, with the hope that he can build toward next season with a strong showing in the final month of this year.

Rangers Put MacKenzie Gore on the Paternity List

The Texas Rangers announced on Wednesday that they placed left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the paternity list and activated left-hander Cody Bradford (elbow) from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. Bradford will make the start on Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants at Globe Life Field. The 27-year-old Gore had an excellent outing on Tuesday in the 5-4 win over the Giants, throwing six scoreless innings. He's not scheduled to throw again until Sunday, so Gore shouldn't have to miss a start while on the paternity list for the next one to three days. The former first-rounder by the San Diego Padres in 2017 has been up and down in 2026 in his first year with the Rangers, going 6-9 with a 4.55 ERA (3.77 FIP) and 1.24 WHIP with 140 strikeouts and 47 walks in 128 2/3 innings across his 24 starts. Gore was a first-time All-Star last year with the Washington Nationals, and his 3.83 expected ERA points to some positive regression late in the season. He has a nice upcoming matchup this Sunday in the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.

Jacob deGrom Opts to Stay in Texas at Trade Deadline

The Atlanta Braves informed the Texas Rangers of their desire to land right-hander Jacob deGrom at the trade deadline, people briefed on the discussions told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Other teams also expressed interest in the 38-year-old, and the Rangers told him that they would make a deal happen if he wanted to waive his no-trade clause for Atlanta. But deGrom said no, explaining that he "wanted to win in Texas." He made it clear that when he signed a five-year, $185 million free-agent contract with the Rangers in December of 2022, he wanted to see it through. Texas led the American League West by two games as recently as last Tuesday, but then they lost five straight to fall to two games under .500 and 2.5 games behind the Houston Astros in the division. deGrom, a five-time All-Star and two-time Cy Young winner, currently has a career-worst 3.96 ERA (3.32 FIP) and 1.14 WHIP with 135 strikeouts and 29 walks in 113 2/3 innings across his 21 starts. He'll be looking to bounce back in a solid matchup against the Baltimore Orioles this weekend after allowing five earned runs with five walks and three strikeouts in only 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Astros last Saturday.

Nathan Eovaldi  • SP  •  Rangers

Rangers Have Spoken to Teams About Nathan Eovaldi

The Texas Rangers have spoken to teams about right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, according to the MLB Network's Jon Morosi. However, Eovaldi has a full no-trade clause, and he's under contract for $24 million next season, which could make any potential trade by Monday's Aug. 3 deadline hard to pull off. Eovaldi being moved on Monday doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the reasons listed above, and because the Rangers are still in the thick of the playoff hunt in the American League, just 2.5 games behind the Astros in the AL West and 1.5 games out of the final wild-card spot in the AL. The Rangers are going to need the 36-year-old veteran starting pitcher if they are going to get into the postseason this year. In his 15th year in the big leagues, Eovaldi has gone 10-9 with a 4.31 ERA (4.30 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP with 135 strikeouts and 30 walks in 127 1/3 innings pitched across his 21 starts. The two-time All-Star has managed to stay healthy for the most part, and he still has a useful 25.3% strikeout rate and 5.6% walk rate to make him relevant in all fantasy baseball leagues. UPDATE: In addition to Eovaldi, the Rangers are discussing left-handers MacKenzie Gore and Jacob Latz with other teams at the deadline, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

Sebastian Walcott  • SS  •  Rangers

Sebastian Walcott Suffers Head Injury, Placed on Double-A Injured List

Texas Rangers infielder Sebastian Walcott, the No. 10 prospect in Major League Baseball, has been placed on the Double-A injured list after being hit in the head by a wild pickoff attempt over the weekend. A clear timetable for his return has not yet been announced. The top-ranked prospect in the Texas system has had an injury-ridden campaign, missing nearly the entire first half after undergoing an internal brace procedure in the offseason. However, when on the field, the infielder has been quite productive, hitting .308 with a .934 OPS in 13 games for Double-A Frisco this season. Dynasty managers should continue to keep a close eye on his status, but it appears he could be in danger of another lengthy absence. Despite the disappointing season, he remains on track to compete for his MLB debut sometime during the 2027 season and continues to hold elite long-term value in all dynasty formats.

Jake Burger  • 1B  •  Rangers

Jake Burger's Power Is Worth the Batting-Average Risk

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger is batting .236/.297/.426 with 19 home runs, 66 RBI, 45 runs, and two stolen bases across 385 at-bats. The average remains a drag, but the power is legitimate. Burger owns a 90.0 mph average exit velocity, 46.2% hard-hit rate, and 11.1% barrel rate, and he has already surpassed the 16 homers he hit during an injury-plagued 2025 season. Managers still need to accept the volatility. Burger's .231 expected average and 26.6% strikeout rate leave him vulnerable to prolonged cold stretches, and his value is concentrated in home runs and RBI. That tradeoff remains worthwhile when a regular first baseman with this kind of power is available in 78% of Yahoo leagues. Burger ranks 54th in RotoBaller's Week 18 waiver rankings and carries an add recommendation for 12-team formats. He belongs on rosters at that league depth wherever power is the priority.

Sebastian Walcott Producing at High Clip Since Injury

Texas Rangers shortstop prospect Sebastian Walcott has homered in two straight games and is recovering nicely since returning from right elbow internal brace surgery. He played two games with the ACL Rangers on a rehab assignment before being assigned to Double-A Frisco on July 17. In 47 at-bats between Frisco and the ACL Rangers, Walcott has four home runs with 10 RBI, 15 runs scored, three stolen bases, all while hitting .383 with a 1.208 OPS. The right-handed hitting 20-year-old is producing at a high rate since returning from his injury. The top prospect in the Rangers' system, Walcott will likely need some time at Triple-A before making a major league debut. But if he can prove his health, he looks like a big-time prospect and thus a big-time waiver addition to beat the rush to his services. But at only 20 years old and coming off a serious injury, 2027 might be the most realistic year for his MLB debut.

Corey Seager  • SS  •  Rangers

Corey Seager to Come Off Injured List on Friday

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) will be activated from the 10-day injured list on Friday before the team's game against the division-rival Houston Astros if he is OK physically after his two minor-league rehab games, according to president of baseball operations Chris Young. Seager will be returning to the majors for the first time since early July due to inflammation in his lower back. It has been an injury-plagued year for the 32-year-old five-time All-Star, as he's had multiple stays on the IL and has played in only 51 games (219 plate appearances). When he has been on the field, he hasn't been himself, slashing .182/.292/.374 with a career-low .667 OPS, 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 28 runs scored, and a stolen base for the Rangers. Expect Texas to ease Seager back into the fold so that he will be healthy for the stretch run as they attempt to get into the postseason. If Seager can stay healthy the rest of the way and rebound to his pre-injury form, he'll be an asset at a premium position in all fantasy leagues.

Logan O'Hoppe  • C  •  Rangers

Rangers Acquire Catcher Logan O'Hoppe From the Angels

The Texas Rangers are acquiring catcher Logan O'Hoppe and reliever Chase Silseth from the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday in exchange for minor-league infielder Angel Arredondo, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. O'Hoppe, 26, is the primary haul for the Rangers in this deal. They were clearly looking for a catcher at this year's Aug. 3 deadline with both Danny Jansen (forearm) and Kyle Higashioka (forearm) sidelined by injuries. The former 23rd-round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2018 had 39 combined home runs with the Halos in 2024 and 2025, but his offensive production has taken a major step back in 2026, as he heads to Texas with a .209/.271/.295 slash line with only four home runs, 23 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 75 games and 256 plate appearances. The move to the Rangers should be good news for O'Hoppe's short-term fantasy value in deeper two-catcher formats, but it's unclear if he'll continue to see regular playing time once Jansen and Higashioka get healthy. In the immediate future, O'Hoppe should split playing time with veteran Elias Diaz.

Corey Seager to Start a Rehab Assignment on Tuesday

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) is scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Tuesday night, according to Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. Seager has been cleared to play in games down on the farm after taking batting practice over the last couple of days. The veteran shortstop has been out for almost a month with inflammation in his back, but he could be ready to rejoin the major-league roster by the weekend or early next week, barring a setback. The 32-year-old five-time All-Star and two-time World Series MVP has had a disastrous season in 2026 due to injuries, playing in only 51 games (219 plate appearances) while slashing .182/.292/.374 with a career-worst .667 OPS, 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 28 runs scored, and a stolen base. Seager is still rostered in 80% of Yahoo leagues because of his reputation as one of the better fantasy shortstops, but injuries have taken their toll, leaving us to wonder if he'll be a high-end power asset down the stretch for the Rangers in 2026.

Joc Pederson  • DH  •  Rangers

Joc Pederson Becoming a Waiver Priority After Two-Homer Game

Texas Rangers outfielder/designated hitter Joc Pederson continued his strong month of July on Monday in the team's 7-3 win over the division-rival Seattle Mariners at Globe Life Field, going 2-for-4 as the team's leadoff hitter with two home runs, four RBI, and a strikeout to boost his season average to .254 and his OPS to .856. The 34-year-old left-handed slugger's damage came early, as he hit a leadoff homer against right-hander George Kirby before blasting a three-run homer in the second inning. Pederson now has two multi-homer games in 2026 and 22 in his career. The two-homer performance extended his current hitting streak to 10 games, during which he's gone 14-for-36 (.389) with five home runs, nine RBI, and a stolen base. Pederson is now slashing .254/.343/.513 with 19 home runs after the two-time All-Star hit just nine homers in 96 games played in 2025 in his first year with the Rangers. For his power stroke from the left side, Pederson needs to be considered as a waiver-wire pickup in more mixed leagues. He's currently rostered in only 5% of Yahoo leagues.

Corey Seager Could Begin Rehab Assignment After Monday's Live BP

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) completed a higher-volume live batting-practice session Sunday and finished it with a home run, according to Matthew Postins. Seager plans to take live BP again Monday, giving him consecutive days of work. If his lower back responds well, he said a minor-league rehab assignment will likely be the next step. Seager has been on the 10-day injured list since July 1 with lower back inflammation, his third IL stint of 2026. He is batting .182 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in 51 games after previously missing 19 games with the same injury and 12 with a concussion. The Rangers have not set a rehab schedule or return date. Fantasy managers should continue holding Seager while awaiting a clearer timetable.

Wyatt Langford Returning to Sunday's Lineup

Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (ankle, foot) is starting in left field and batting second in Sunday's contest at home against the division-rival Seattle Mariners and right-hander Logan Gilbert, according to MLB.com. Langford fouled a couple of pitches off his left ankle/foot during Saturday's win over Seattle before he was pulled as a precaution after six innings. Thankfully, X-rays came back negative for any fractures. The 24-year-old former fourth overall pick from the University of Florida in 2023 went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored in Saturday's game before departing. Fantasy managers will want to get him back into their starting lineups in all traditional leagues now that he's back in action on Sunday. After his strong performance on Saturday, Langford is now slashing .290/.335/.533 with an .868 OPS, 12 home runs, 29 RBI, 34 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in his 210 at-bats in 2026. He can't seem to escape nagging injuries, but when healthy, Langford is one of the better power/speed outfielders in fantasy.

Wyatt Langford's X-Rays Come Back Negative, Could Play on Sunday

Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (ankle, foot) said X-rays came back negative after he suffered a left-ankle/foot injury in Saturday's game against the division-rival Seattle Mariners, and he expects to be fine for Sunday's game, according to Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. Fantasy managers should consider the 24-year-old right-handed slugger to be day-to-day for now. Given Langford's already lengthy injury history early in his MLB career, we would not be surprised if the Rangers hold him out of Sunday's contest against Seattle. If Langford is held out on Sunday, his next chance to return to action would be for Monday's series finale against the Mariners. Langford, a former first-rounder, has already missed 52 of a possible 104 games in 2026 due to various injuries, so the Rangers probably won't push him to play on Sunday. In his third year in the big leagues, Langford is hitting a strong .290 (61-for-210) with 12 home runs, 29 RBI, 34 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 52 games across 224 plate appearances. His power/speed upside makes him roster-worthy in all fantasy formats.

Cody Bradford  • SP  •  Rangers

Cody Bradford Impresses During Rehab Start

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Cody Bradford (elbow) threw three scoreless innings in his latest rehab start for Double-A Frisco on Thursday. The 28-year-old increased his pitch count to 48, throwing 39 of them for strikes while displaying impressive command. Although he allowed three hits, he struck out four batters and did not issue a walk. He likely has at least two more rehab starts before being activated and returning to the Rangers' starting rotation, with building up his pitch count remaining the primary focus. That said, his rehab assignment has been a success so far, and Bradford remains a low-cost stash with some upside in the deepest fantasy leagues.
