Justin Foscue to Work in the Outfield This Spring

Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said that first baseman Justin Foscue will get some reps in the outfield this spring, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. Foscue is trying to increase his versatility defensively to try to win a bench/utility role with the Rangers out of spring training. The 26-year-old former 14th overall pick out of Mississippi State University in 2020 made his major-league debut with the Rangers in 2024, but he only played in 15 games and went 2-for-42 (.048) with two walks and 18 strikeouts. Foscue appeared in just four games with the Rangers last year and had one hit in nine plate appearances. In his five minor-league seasons, he has slashed .272/.376/.491 with an .867 OPS, 79 home runs, 320 RBI, and 29 steals in 445 games. Foscue has been unable to make the transition to the majors, and his ceiling could be as a bench player in Texas.

Jack Leiter  • SP  •  Rangers

Jack Leiter Looking to Build on Solid Second Half

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter appears to have secured the fourth spot in the Rangers' rotation coming into the season, behind a strong trio of Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, and recently-acquired MacKenzie Gore. Leiter finished his first full season in the majors 10-10 in 29 starts for Texas last year, racking up 148 strikeouts in 151 2/3 innings. He finished the year with a 3.86 ERA and 4.15 FIP, but the 25-year-old righty looked better after the All-Star break with a 3.28 ERA, 3.72 FIP, and 79 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings. He also cut his walk rate to 3.66 walks per nine innings from 4.4 before the All-Star break. Leiter can be a great later-round sleeper with good upside, and he still has plenty of room to grow into his top-prospect status after the Rangers snagged him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.

Brandon Nimmo  • LF  •  Rangers

Brandon Nimmo to Function as Leadoff Hitter

Texas Rangers outfielder Brandon Nimmo is expected to function as the leadoff hitter and play right field, according to manager Skip Schumaker. This was expected to happen, but it's nice to finally have confirmation on the situation. Nimmo was traded to the Rangers in the deal that sent Marcus Semien to the New York Mets earlier this offseason. The left-handed slugger is hopeful to give a boost to this lineup after a strong campaign in 2025. Nimmo slashed .262/.324/.436 with 25 home runs, 92 RBI, and 13 steals in 155 games with the Mets last season. The 32-year-old is a consistent hitter and durable, with 150-plus games played in each of the last four seasons. His fantasy value should remain strong, especially with him hitting in the leadoff spot.

Nabil Crismatt  • SP  •  Rangers

Nabil Crismatt to Have Elbow Surgery

Texas Rangers right-handed reliever Nabil Crismatt (elbow), who is in camp with the Rangers on a minor-league deal, will have right-elbow surgery and will not pitch for Team Colombia in this year's World Baseball Classic, according to Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. It's unclear exactly what kind of surgery Crismatt will have, but at the very least, he'll probably miss several months. The 31-year-old veteran joined the Rangers in the offseason after going 3-0 with a 3.71 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 25 strikeouts and nine walks in 34 innings over eight appearances (five starts) for the Arizona Diamondbacks last year. The six-year MLB veteran won't be guaranteed to resurface in the big leagues with the Rangers this year once he's recovered from his elbow surgery. In his six MLB seasons, Crismatt has a 3.71 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 187:63 K:BB in 211 innings pitched with four different clubs.

Sebastian Walcott to Have Elbow Surgery, Could Miss Entire Season

Texas Rangers shortstop prospect Sebastian Walcott (elbow) will undergo elbow surgery and will likely miss most, if not all, of 2026, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. Walcott was expected to start the season back in the minors, but he almost certainly would have made his major-league debut this year had he been healthy. The 19-year-old is ranked as the No. 7 overall prospect at MLB Pipeline after hitting .255/.355/.386 with 13 home runs and 32 stolen bases in 124 games last year at Double-A Frisco. Despite being the youngest qualified hitter at Double-A in 2025, Walcott posted a 110 wRC+. He also showed improvement with his strikeout rate, walk rate, and swing rate. The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder has plenty of maturing to do, but he has one of the highest fantasy ceilings of any young position-player prospect in the game. Unfortunately, his timeline has been extended by a year. UPDATE: Walcott has a UCL tear in his elbow.

Chris Martin  • RP  •  Rangers  |  Robert Garcia  • RP  •  Rangers

Robert Garcia, Chris Martin the Front-Runners for Saves in Texas

Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said that relievers Robert Garcia and Chris Martin are the front-runners to receive most of the save chances to start the 2026 season, according to Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. Alexis Diaz could be another option to close out games, but the Rangers want to see how he performs in spring training games first. Garcia, 29, went 4-8 in 2025 with a 2.95 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, the first nine saves of his career, 68 strikeouts, and 22 walks in 64 relief innings. Shawn Armstrong and Luke Jackson tied Garcia for the team lead in saves last year, but both Armstrong and Jackson are gone, potentially giving Garcia the leg up as the Rangers' primary closer this year. Martin, 39, had a nice 2.98 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, two saves, and a 43:8 K:BB in 42 1/3 frames for Texas last season. This has the makings of a committee approach, so fantasy managers shouldn't invest too much into either Garcia or Martin.

MacKenzie Gore  • SP  •  Rangers

MacKenzie Gore Thows Bullpen Session on Wednesday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore (ankle) threw a bullpen session on Wednesday, according to video from Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Gore was acquired from the Nationals in a blockbuster trade last month. The trade wouldn't have happened if he hadn't passed a physical, but it's still worth noting that he is coming back from shoulder and ankle injuries that sidelined him for all of September last year. Thus, Rangers fans and fantasy managers should be encouraged that he threw a bullpen, seemingly without any limitations. The 26-year-old has posted an ERA of 3.90 or higher in each of his four MLB seasons, but he still fetched a significant prospect haul in the trade because of his underlying metrics, pitch characteristics, and team control. There's a lot to like about his 10.43 K/9 and 3.61 BB/9 from last year, and his 1.13 HR/9 should settle down now that he's in the Rangers' pitcher-friendly environment. As it stands, Gore ranks as the #59 starting pitcher in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings for 2026.

Jordan Montgomery  • SP  •  Rangers

Rangers Sign Jordan Montgomery to One-Year Deal

The Texas Rangers signed free-agent left-hander Jordan Montgomery (elbow) to a one-year, $1.25 million deal on Wednesday, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. Montgomery will make his return to Texas after helping the team win its first World Series championship back in 2023. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw won't make his 2026 debut until around the All-Star break, though, after having a hybrid UCL reconstruction last March. In his last season in 2024 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Montgomery really struggled, going 8-7 with a 6.23 ERA and 1.65 WHIP with 83 strikeouts and 44 walks in 117 innings over 25 appearances (21 starts). He has now had two left-elbow reconstructions, making it unlikely he'll be able to recapture any of his 2023 magic, especially once he returns in the second half this season.

Cody Bradford  • SP  •  Rangers

Cody Bradford Aiming for a May Return

Texas Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford (elbow) said he will throw his seventh bullpen session on Tuesday in his rehab from an internal-brace procedure last June, and he's still aiming for a return in May, according to Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. Bradford's bullpen on Tuesday will be his first that isn't limited to fastballs. The 27-year-old will try eight to 10 changeups. The 27-year-old southpaw pitched well in 2024, going 6-3 with a 3.54 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with 70 strikeouts and only 13 walks in 76 1/3 innings over his 14 appearances (13 starts). Bradford doesn't blow hitters away, but he has strong command and has shown a knack for keeping batters off balance. Because his command could struggle upon his return in 2026 after a long layoff, it's hard to get behind him in single-league formats this year. The Rangers will most definitely ease Bradford back in, too. At best, he's a bench stash in AL-only leagues.

Kumar Rocker  • SP  •  Rangers

Kumar Rocker in Competition for Final Rotation Spot

Texas Rangers right-hander Kumar Rocker will compete for the final spot in the team's Opening Day starting rotation this spring, according to MLB.com's Kennedi Landry. The 2022 first-rounder had a less-than-stellar first full year in the majors in 2025, going 4-5 with a 5.74 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 56 strikeouts and 23 walks in 64 1/3 innings over 14 starts. Rocker was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Aug. 1 and was shut down for the rest of the year shortly after that to refine his mechanics and work on his delivery. General manager Ross Fenstermaker thinks Rocker is in a "really good spot" going into the 2026 season, though, and he'll primarily be competing with Jacob Latz for the No. 5 and final rotation spot. Given his draft pedigree (former 10th overall pick), the 26-year-old will get another shot this year, but if he continues to struggle against lefties, he could be relegated to a bullpen role.

Jack Leiter  • SP  •  Rangers

Jack Leiter Likely Locked into Starting Rotation

Despite the offseason acquisition of left-hander MacKenzie Gore, Texas Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter is likely locked into a starting rotation spot in Texas as he enters his second full big-league season, according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Along with Leiter and Gore, the Rangers' Opening Day rotation will consist of Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, and Kumar Rocker. Leiter, 25, improved as the year went on in 2025 and finished with a 10-10 record, 3.86 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 148:67 K:BB in 151 2/3 innings over 29 starts for the Rangers. While there were some ugly outings for the former second overall pick, it was mostly a successful season in his first full year in the big leagues. Walks are still the biggest issue for Leiter, but he made strides in that area in the second half. If he can display better control on the mound, Leiter could be in for a breakout campaign at a low cost in fantasy baseball drafts. He's currently ranked as the No. 74 starting pitcher at RotoBaller.

Brandon Nimmo  • LF  •  Rangers

Brandon Nimmo Carries High-Floor Profile into 2026

Texas Rangers outfielder Brandon Nimmo continues to have a high floor in category formats heading into the 2026 campaign. Nimmo was shipped to the Rangers in the early stages of the offseason in exchange for infielder Marcus Semien. Over the past two seasons, Nimmo has hit at least 23 home runs while swiping double-digit bases. In 2025, Nimmo would launch a career-best 25 long balls with 13 stolen bases, a slight drop from the 15 he stole the year prior. He posted a .262/.324/.436 line with 81 runs and a solid 92 RBI, the highest of his career. His rise in power could continue in 2026, as he posted a career-best 50.2% hard-hit rate and a 112.3 max exit velocity. While the 32-year-old's counting stats could take a slight hit in the move to Texas, he holds 20/10 (HR/SB) upside while proving a solid batting average. He is a prime target as a No. 3 OF in NFBC drafts, at his current 142.2 ADP.

Emiliano Teodo  • SP  •  Rangers

Emiliano Teodo Could be Bullpen Asset for Rangers

Texas Rangers right-handed pitching prospect Emiliano Teodo is fully healthy entering the 2026 season and could be a "bullpen asset with three weapons," according to MLB.com. Teodo was limited to just 30 minor-league innings last year due to a shoulder impingement, posting a 7.20 ERA and 1.87 WHIP with 38 strikeouts and 29 walks at the Rookie level, Double-A Frisco, and Triple-A Round Rock. The 24-year-old was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2020 for just $10,000. Teodo features a 97-99 mph sinker that touches 102, a tight upper-80s slider that falls off the table, and an upper-80s changeup with fade and depth. The hard-throwing pitching prospect is a volatile stash in dynasty/keeper leagues because of his control issues, but his pure stuff could earn him a call-up to the big leagues for the first time in 2026.

Ryan Brasier  • RP  •  Rangers

Ryan Brasier Finalizing Deal With Rangers

Free-agent right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier is finalizing an undisclosed deal with the Texas Rangers on Friday, sources told Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. Injuries limited Brasier to only 26 relief innings in 2025 with the Chicago Cubs, and he held a 4.50 ERA (3.17 FIP) and 1.23 WHIP with 20 strikeouts and five walks in 28 appearances (one start). The 38-year-old veteran has nine years of big-league experience (six seasons with the Boston Red Sox), so he'll add some much-needed experience and depth to a Rangers' bullpen that could use some help. However, Brasier is unlikely to be much more than a middle-relief arm who might not have much left in the tank as he nears 40 years old. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Brasier to be much of a high-leverage bullpen option, as he's recorded just 10 saves in 325 major-league appearances.

Mason Thompson  • RP  •  Rangers

Mason Thompson Joins Rangers on Minor-League Deal

Free-agent pitcher Mason Thompson has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Texas Rangers after spending the last several years with the Nationals. The signing marks a return home for Thompson, who is from Texas and attended Round Rock High School, near where the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate is based. The 6-foot-6 righty has appeared in 89 games out of the bullpen for the Nats over the last four seasons, compiling a 5.54 ERA and 4.26 FIP in 89 1/3 innings. He was knocked around in both Triple-A and his brief stint in the majors last season, but that was his first action since Tommy John surgery in the spring of 2024. He'll look to complete his recovery and compete for a job in the Rangers' bullpen, and if he can return to his pre-surgery production, he will be an interesting depth option to monitor in spring training.

Nick Pratto  • 1B  •  Rangers

Nick Pratto Expected to Sign with Rangers

The Texas Rangers are expected to sign first baseman Nick Pratto to a deal for the 2026 season. The assumption is that this will be a minor-league deal with an invite to Spring Training. The deal isn't officially done, but Chris Cotillo believes that the deal is close to being finalized. Pratto is a former first-round pick of the Kansas City Royals during the 2017 draft. The organization viewed him as the future at first base, but Pratto could never put it together at the big league level. Last season, Pratto slashed .232/.307/.353 with seven home runs and 35 RBI in 95 games with the Royals. The Rangers are hopeful they can tap into his potential and help the 27-year-old turn around his career.

Corey Seager  • SS  •  Rangers

Corey Seager Back to Full Health Heading into 2026

When healthy, Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager remains one of the best left-handed hitters in baseball. Across 445 plate appearances in 2025, the 31-year-old posted a .271/.373/.487 slash line with 21 home runs, 50 RBI, 61 runs scored, and three stolen bases. Unfortunately, consistent health has been elusive for Seager for the majority of his MLB career. Since 2018, Seager has topped 550 plate appearances in a season just once. From a fantasy perspective, the lack of availability limits Seager's ability to rack up counting stats across all categories and minimizes the benefit of his strong batting average. He's also never recorded more than four stolen bases in a season, so building a roster around Seager means accepting below-average speed from the shortstop position. All that being said, Seager should be healthy entering 2026 Spring Training. If he can somehow manage a full season's worth of playing time, Seager could easily out-produce his current average draft position of pick number 88. He's a risky selection, but one that could pay off in a big way for fantasy managers in 2026.

Cal Quantrill  • SP  •  Rangers

Cal Quantrill Returning to Texas on Minor-League Deal

According to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, the Texas Rangers have signed right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill to a minor-league deal that includes an invite to spring training. The 30-year-old spent the 2025 season with the Marlins and Braves and finished the campaign in Triple-A Round Rock, in the Texas organization. Through his 117 2/3 innings in the majors last summer, Quantrill posted a 6.04 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP. He struck out only 85 hitters and generated a high 5.81 xERA. With Triple-A Round Rock, the veteran showed some improvement, posting a 1.64 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP across 11 innings. Managers should expect Quantrill to serve as a depth option in Texas and could win a role as a bulk reliever out of camp. However, given his low strikeout upside and struggles last season, Quantrill is not expected to carry much fantasy value in standard formats.

Sebastian Walcott  • SS  •  Rangers

Sebastian Walcott Joining Big-League Roster in Spring Training

Texas Rangers top prospect Sebastian Walcott has received an invite to big-league spring training. The young infielder is currently considered the team's top prospect and the No. 6 overall-ranked prospect in the sport on MLB.com. The 19-year-old spent the entire 2025 campaign with Double-A Frisco and is quickly approaching his MLB debut. Across this stint, Walcott posted a strong .255/.355/.386 line with 19 doubles, 13 home runs, and an impressive 32 stolen bases. He held a 108:70 K:BB. In 2024, Walcott spent the majority of the campaign with High-A, where he posted a .261/.342/.443 line across 116 games. While Walcott is unlikely to compete for an early MLB debut, he could begin the season at Triple-A, which would keep him in play for a second-half promotion to Texas.

Evan Carter Establishes a Goal to Steal 30 Bases

Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter said that he wants to steal 30 bases during the 2026 MLB season. Carter told Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News that he has something to prove this year, and reaching the 30-steal mark is one of his goals. Back spasms and a right wrist fracture limited the former second-round pick to just eight games after August 1st last season, so contributing consistently and staying healthy will be key for his fantasy value in 2026. He finished his third MLB campaign with a .247/.336/.392 slash line, five home runs, 14 stolen bases, an 8.6% walk rate, an 18.6% strikeout rate, and 107 wRC+ across 63 games. Carter hasn't stolen 30 bases in a single campaign since being drafted, but he did tally at least 26 in each of his first three minor league seasons, so that's a reasonable goal. As it stands, he ranks as the #84 outfielder in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball draft rankings for 2026.
