Jack Leiter Cleared to Start on Monday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter (ankle) is ready to go and will make the start against the New York Yankees on Monday. Leiter suffered an ankle injury during his previous start versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Luckily, it was a minor issue that isn't going to cost him anytime. The right-hander has struggled lately with a 6.91 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, and a 12/9 K:BB ratio over his last three starts. His first two starts of the season went well, but he hasn't been able to find the same success since then. Leiter will be a shaky streaming option against the Yankees' tough lineup.

Jack Leiter Dealing With "Sore" Ankle

Texas Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter (ankle) said that his right ankle is "a little sore" after his fall during his start on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Globe Life Field, but he doesn't expect to miss any time because of it as of now, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. Leiter's next start is scheduled to come on Monday against the New York Yankees, which is a matchup that most fantasy managers will want to avoid in deeper leagues. The 26-year-old tripped over a weighted bat that was in the on-deck circle and fell to the ground in the fifth inning against the Bucs on Wednesday. Leiter took a no-decision while giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits while walking two and striking out five in his five innings of work. The former second overall pick in 2021 out of Vanderbilt has been pretty inconsistent through five 2026 starts, posting a 4.97 ERA (3.81 FIP) and 1.46 WHIP with 29 punchouts and 11 walks in 25 1/3 innings pitched.

Jack Leiter Strikes Out Eight in Season Debut

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter allowed two earned runs, five hits, and one walk during Monday's 5-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. He also struck out eight batters and earned the win. It was an impressive season-opening outing from the young right-hander, who is looking to build off a breakout campaign in 2025, when he went 10-10 with a 3.86 ERA and 8.78 K/9 across 29 starts. Now that he has established himself as a consistent rotation piece, he should rack up innings and become an intriguing starting pitching option for fantasy baseball managers. As it stands, he ranks #62 among starters in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings. He's projected to return to the mound on Sunday, April 5, against the Cincinnati Reds. It'll be an exciting pitching matchup as Leiter toes the rubber opposite Chase Burns.

Can Jack Leiter Replicate His Strong Close to 2025 Over a Full Season in 2026?

Across 151 2/3 innings (29 starts) in 2025, Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter pitched to a 10-10 record with a 3.86 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 148 strikeouts. While the former top prospect established himself as a back-end rotation piece in Texas, his season-long K-BB% of 12.5% does not jump off the page. However, Leiter finished the 2025 season significantly stronger than he started it. After the All-Star break, the 25-year-old pitched to a 3.28 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 79 strikeouts across 71 1/3 innings. Command remains a red flag in Leiter's profile, as he's recorded a walk rate below 10% just once across his four professional seasons. Still, if he can re-produce the 26.3% strikeout rate he recorded in the second half of 2025 over a full season in 2026, Leiter could easily emerge as a very valuable fantasy starting pitcher. Entering the year, Leiter profiles as a fantasy SP5 with upside.

Jack Leiter Looking to Build on Solid Second Half

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter appears to have secured the fourth spot in the Rangers' rotation coming into the season, behind a strong trio of Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, and recently-acquired MacKenzie Gore. Leiter finished his first full season in the majors 10-10 in 29 starts for Texas last year, racking up 148 strikeouts in 151 2/3 innings. He finished the year with a 3.86 ERA and 4.15 FIP, but the 25-year-old righty looked better after the All-Star break with a 3.28 ERA, 3.72 FIP, and 79 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings. He also cut his walk rate to 3.66 walks per nine innings from 4.4 before the All-Star break. Leiter can be a great later-round sleeper with good upside, and he still has plenty of room to grow into his top-prospect status after the Rangers snagged him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.

Jack Leiter Likely Locked into Starting Rotation

Despite the offseason acquisition of left-hander MacKenzie Gore, Texas Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter is likely locked into a starting rotation spot in Texas as he enters his second full big-league season, according to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Along with Leiter and Gore, the Rangers' Opening Day rotation will consist of Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, and Kumar Rocker. Leiter, 25, improved as the year went on in 2025 and finished with a 10-10 record, 3.86 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 148:67 K:BB in 151 2/3 innings over 29 starts for the Rangers. While there were some ugly outings for the former second overall pick, it was mostly a successful season in his first full year in the big leagues. Walks are still the biggest issue for Leiter, but he made strides in that area in the second half. If he can display better control on the mound, Leiter could be in for a breakout campaign at a low cost in fantasy baseball drafts. He's currently ranked as the No. 74 starting pitcher at RotoBaller.

Jack Leiter Pitches Well in No-Decision

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter has been roughed up on the mound lately, but put together a strong performance versus the Mariners. The right-hander tossed six innings allowing one earned run on seven hits while striking out seven batters in the no-decision. This is the first time that Leiter has allowed three earned runs or less in a start since June 5. He'll take a 4.29 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 58/32 K/BB ratio into his next start against the San Diego Padres. Leiter hasn't produced enough quality outings lately to warrant streaming in anything more than deep leagues.

Jack Leiter Logs Seven Innings on Sunday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter tossed seven innings of three-run ball against the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon. Leiter carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. However, Astros catcher Yainer Diaz hit a solo shot to end the bid. Then in the eighth, Leiter allowed two singles to Jake Meyers and Cam Smith before exiting the game. Relief pitcher Robert Garcia would then allow a three-run shot to Isaac Paredes, which raised Leiter's ERA. The former second overall pick has shown flashes of dominance this season but has also had several disappointing showings. He has allowed more than four runs twice and allowed three or more walks in three starts. Through 36 total innings, the right-hander carries a 4.25 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP. He will look to continue this strong run against the White Sox in his next outing.

Jack Leiter To Start On Sunday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jack Leiter (hand) will be activated off the injured list and rejoin the starting rotation on Sunday. The right-hander is scheduled to take the ball against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. There was some speculation that Leiter would take the spot of Kumar Rocker (shoulder) and pitch on Monday. That doesn't appear to be the plan, so maybe Patrick Corbin gets moved into Rocker's spot for Monday's game. Regardless, Leiter is returning and will hopefully continue to pitch like he was before the injury. Leiter has thrown 10 innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, and recorded 10 strikeouts in two starts.

Jack Leiter Sharp In Rehab Outing On Tuesday

Texas Rangers pitching prospect Jack Leiter (finger) tossed 4 1/3 shutout innings in his rehab outing on Tuesday against Triple-A Las Vegas. Leiter allowed just one hit and one walk. He struck out four. The former second overall pick has been on the injured list due to a blister since his start on April 2. However, given his strong rehab outing, he could be in line to return to Texas before the end of the week. Before his injury, Leiter was enjoying a strong start to the season and had logged 10 innings of one-run ball with a stellar 10:1 K:BB. This was a great sign, as the Vanderbilt product has struggled with his command throughout his minor-league career and during his first MLB stint last season. In 2024, Leiter made his MLB debut but held an 8.83 ERA with a 1.71 WHIP. Given his progress this season, he should be viewed as a solid option in all formats when he is activated off the injured list.
