Cole Winn Placed on Injured List With Nerve Irritation

Texas Rangers right-hander Cole Winn (hand) was placed on the injured list on Wednesday due to nerve irritation in his right hand. This issue may have factored into his poor relief performance on Tuesday against the Royals. Nerve issues in the hand could range from cervical (neck) radiculopathy to carpal tunnel syndrome. The 25-year-old will undergo further testing, and there is no timeline for his return at this time. Jacob Latz was called up from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Winn has pitched effectively out of the bullpen this year for the Rangers with 26 strikeouts over 31 innings and a very respectable 1.45 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.

Cole Winn Untouchable In Double-A Start

Texas Rangers pitching prospect Cole Winn threw six shutout innings on Thursday and did not allow a hit. The young right-hander wasn't perfect with his control and he walked three batters but he also struck out six. The 21-year-old has been difficult to hit all season and he's allowed just nine hits in 21 2/3 innings spread out over four starts. His ERA sits at 2.08 and he has a K-BB rate of 25-7. If Winn can continue this pace, he could see Triple-A this summer and possibly the majors towards the end of the year, which would be great news for a Rangers club that has dealt with pitching injuries and inconsistent performances. He was the club's first-round draft pick back in 2018.
