Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (illness) is back at first base and is hitting seventh for the Rangers on Wednesday against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Jose Soriano at Globe Life Park. Burger missed the series-opening win over the Halos on Tuesday with a mild illness but will return for the second game of the series. The 29-year-old right-handed power hitter has gotten off to a slow start in his first year in Texas, going 8-for-53 (.151) with two home runs, two doubles, seven RBI, only one walk and 15 strikeouts in 15 games played. Although he resides in a strong Rangers lineup, the fact that he's hitting near the bottom of the order gives him a low fantasy ceiling for DFS gamers. Burger has never faced Soriano in his career.
Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (illness) is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Field, but he might be available to come off the bench if needed, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Ezequiel Duran is starting at the cold corner and is hitting eighth against Angels left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. The fact that Burger could be available off the bench means that his illness isn't all that serious, and fantasy managers should expect him to return for Game 2 of the series on Wednesday. Burger is off to a slow start in 2025 in his first year in Texas, batting .151 (8-for-53) with two home runs, two doubles, seven RBI and 15 punchouts in his first 15 games played. Duran has gone hitless in his first 11 at-bats this year and will be a low-upside DFS option at the bottom of the batting order. He's gone hitless in two career at-bats versus Kikuchi.
Texas Rangers third baseman Jake Burger went 1-for-3 with a double and two strikeouts in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners. It's the 29-year-old's second double of the season and fourth extra-base-hit in total (two home runs). Burger is off to a sluggish start at the dish in 2025, carrying a .151/.182/.302 slash line with a 1/15 K:BB ratio over his first 15 games. Unfortunately, even the under-the-hood numbers are poor, as the former first-round pick's average exit velocity (89.1) and hard-hit rate (42.1%) are sitting at career-low figures. Furthermore, he's still striking out 27.3% of the time, and his barrel rate has dipped for the second straight season. However, Burger has a hit in four consecutive outings, so maybe his bat is finally waking up.
The Texas Rangers are acquiring third baseman/first baseman Jake Burger from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night in exchange for third baseman Echedry Vargas, shortstop Max Acosta and left-hander Brayan Mendoza, according to a source. The move to add Burger adds thump to Texas' lineup after he hit 29 home runs and drove in 76 for the Marlins in 2024. He hit a career-high 34 long balls with the Chicago White Sox and Marlins in 2023 while also posting a nice .828 OPS. The former first-round selection by the White Sox in 2017 out of Missouri State University will move to a much better situation for his fantasy prospects in Texas and will be surrounded by much better hitters. Between third base, first base and designated hitter, Burger should play regularly and give fantasy managers a solid power floor with around a .250 average.
Miami Marlins corner infielder Jake Burger continued his hot hitting on Tuesday versus the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. Burger went 1-for-4 on the night with a walk and a solo home run. Despite getting off to a slow start and being hurt with injuries in the first half of the season, the slugger has been on an insane tear of late. Over the last month, Burger is hitting .330 with 13 homers and 19 RBI in 91 at-bats. Burger's Statcast profile backs up his power surge, as he has been hitting and barreling balls thrown to him at a very high rate. Although he will likely cool off at some point, the power is legit and should remain. Burger has given patient fantasy managers every reason to be happy and has become a must-start with his recent hot streak.
Jake Burger Homers, Collects Three Hits In Sunday's Win
Miami Marlins slugger Jake Burger had a monster game on Sunday as the Fish beat the San Diego Padres 7-6. Burger went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored in Sunday's victory. His two-run blast came in the second inning off of the Padres ace Dylan Cease. Burger has 22 home runs on the season and has hit one in three straight games. He has been scorching hot lately, slashing .379/.438/.931 in his last seven contests. He is available in 16% of Yahoo! leagues and should definitely be on all fantasy manager's radars as the season comes into its final stretch.
Miami Marlins corner infielder Jake Burger remained one of the hottest hitters in baseball during Wednesday night's win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds at LoanDepot Park, smashing two home runs in the victory. After belting a ball to center field for a solo home run off Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott to open the scoring for the Marlins in the first inning, Burger pulled a fly ball to left field for his second solo shot of the game to extend Miami's lead to 6-0 in the fifth frame. The 28-year-old slugging third baseman has been raking for the past month or so, hitting .325 (26-for-80) with 10 homers, 18 RBI, and 15 runs scored in his last 21 games since July 13.
Miami Marlins first baseman/third baseman Jake Burger has continued to showcase his power, going deep for the second time in as many games on Wednesday afternoon and the third time in the past week. During this stretch, the 28-year-old has posted three multi-hit performances with a .850 SLG. The Missouri State product has swung a hot bat through all of July with a .287/.354/.609 line and eight home runs, which is a stark contrast to the underwhelming .213/.246/.322 line and four home runs he held through May and June. Burger is emerging as a strong streaming option in all leagues and is worth a look in DFS as he continues this hot stretch.
Miami Marlins infielder Jake Burger contributed to Friday night's win over the visiting division-rival New York Mets, cranking his 11th home run of the year with two RBI and two runs scored. After hitting an RBI double off Mets left-hander Sean Manaea down the left-field line to extend the Marlins' lead to 3-0 in the third inning, Burger crushed a solo homer to left-center field to give Miami a 5-2 lead in the fifth frame. The 28-year-old former first-round pick has cooled down significantly after a scorching-hot start to the season in the RBI department (15 through his first 13 games this year), but he's picking up some steam in July by hitting .292 (14-for-48) with four round-trippers, two doubles, 10 RBI, and eight runs scored in 12 contests this month.
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger homered and drove in four runs Saturday in a 10-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. On the season, Burger is hitting .225 with 10 home runs, 35 RBI, zero stolen bases and 29 runs scored. In July, he's hitting .275 with three home runs, eight RBI, and five runs scored. There are signs that Burger is finally starting to shake off his season-long slump and be a run-producing player for the Marlins, which means he could also be on the trade market ahead of the end-of-July trade deadline.
