Jake Burger Still Worth Targeting on the Waiver Wire Amidst Cold Streak?

Entering play on Thursday, Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger had logged just seven hits in his last 49 plate appearances. The 30-year-old is now hitting .218/.253/.380 with six home runs, 21 RBI, and 14 runs scored across his first 150 plate appearances of 2026. Burger's 28.7% strikeout rate is his worst mark since 2022, and he's started to slide from the middle of the Rangers batting order to the bottom. However, Burger still owns strong underlying batted-ball metrics with a 10% barrel rate and a 50% hard-hit rate. He's recorded 85 home runs over his last 1,645 MLB plate appearances, so he remains a power threat for fantasy managers to deploy in a corner infield spot. Burger's profile comes with plenty of risk, but he could be a worthy buy-low target off the waiver wire amidst his current cold spell.

Jake Burger Slumping, Buy-Low Window Opening for Third Baseman

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger has cooled after a scorching March to open the season in which he hit .409 with a .727 slugging percentage. His season OPS has dropped to .670, but that early production showed the impact bat he can be when locked in at the plate. Burger is in his second season with Texas and still carries major rebound appeal, but he is carrying a 28.4 K% that has slowed his production. The 30-year-old has enough raw power to clear 30 home runs over a full season, making him a player worth tracking closely. If he cuts down the strikeouts and finds his rhythm again, another hot streak could follow soon. Fantasy managers should treat Burger as a strong buy-low waiver wire target.

Jake Burger Looks Like a Prime Bounce-Back Candidate Early in 2026

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger had a miserable year in 2025, hitting .236 with 16 home runs across 376 plate appearances. However, the 30-year-old has been much better to open 2026, hitting .275/.298/.513 with five home runs, 17 RBI, and 10 runs scored across 84 plate appearances. Burger's 50.9% hard-hit rate is his best mark since 2021. He's also worked his way into an everyday role in the cleanup spot in the Rangers' lineup, putting him in a good spot to continue to rack up RBI. Burger's plate skills remain a question, as he's striking out in 28.6% of his plate appearances while walking at just a 2.4% clip. Still, as long as Burger continues making plenty of hard contact, he profiles as a power bat for fantasy managers to target on the waiver wire.

Jake Burger Goes Yard Twice in Win Over A's

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger was seeing the ball well in Monday night's 8-1 win over the division-rival Athletics in Sacramento, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, four RBI, a walk, and a strikeout. Burger got the party started in the first inning with a three-run tater off of right-handed starter Luis Severino, and the Rangers never looked back. He got Severino again for a solo job in the eighth inning. The home runs were the 30-year-old's first since he homered in back-to-back games to begin the 2026 regular season. Burger is known as a streaky hitter, so fantasy managers will want to ride his power bat until he cools off. After his big power performance on Monday night, the former first-rounder by the Chicago White Sox in 2017 out of Missouri State is hitting .246 (16-for-65) with four home runs, 11 RBI, and seven runs scored in 16 games played.

Jake Burger Looks Like an Early-Season Power Bat to Target on the Waiver Wire

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger is off to a strong start to the 2026 season, hitting two home runs in nine plate appearances across the Rangers' first two games. The 29-year-old had a down year in his first season with Texas in 2025, hitting .236/.269/.419 with 16 home runs, 53 RBI, 43 runs scored, and one stolen base across 376 plate appearances. However, Burger still owns a 14.3% barrel rate for his career and hit 63 home runs across 1,109 plate appearances split between the Chicago White Sox and Miami Marlins in 2023 and 2024. Burger has also been parked in the cleanup spot in the Texas order in each of the team's contests in 2026, which should put him in a prime position to rack up RBI. Burger has also struck out four times in his nine trips to the plate so far this year, so fantasy managers should consider the damage he might do in the batting average category. Still, Burger could be a cheap source of power to pick up off the waiver wire early in 2026.

Jake Burger Poised for a Resurgent Season?

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger had an uncharacteristically poor year at the plate in 2025, but a strong performance this spring has sparked some optimism about his outlook for 2026. Through 103 games last year -- his first in Texas -- Burger slashed .236/.269/.419 with 16 home runs, a 3.2 walk rate, and a 24.7% strikeout rate. He amassed a career-low 89 wRC+ and, for the first time in his career, produced negative fWAR at the plate and in the field. This spring, however, his slash line is up to .355/.429/.645 with an 11.4% walk rate and 180 wRC+, and he has slugged three home runs in 35 plate appearances. We shouldn't invest too much stock into spring stats, but it's refreshing to see that his home run and walk rates have improved in Grapefruit League play, even if some of the pitchers he's facing aren't MLB-caliber arms. Managers should be optimistic that Burger, who launched 63 home runs between 2023 and 2024, might be able to mash around 20-25 homers this upcoming season, even though the Rangers' park is very pitcher-friendly.

Jake Burger Fully Recovered from Offseason Wrist Surgery

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (wrist) is fully recovered from offseason wrist surgery and is expected to be a full-go for spring training, according to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. In 2025, Burger appeared in only 103 games and had a disappointing season in the batter's box, posting a low .236/.269/.419 line with 16 home runs and a high 24.7% K%. During the season, he battled numerous lingering injuries, including a wrist injury that now looks to be behind him. In 2023 and 2024, Burger launched at last 29 home runs in each season and held an overall .250/.205/.488 line with a 793 OPS. Managers should expect the 29-year-old to operate as the primary first baseman in Texas. He is a solid target late in drafts if looking for power, as he should return to his 25+ HR upside following a healthy offseason.

Jake Burger Having Offseason Wrist Surgery

Texas Rangers corner infielder Jake Burger (wrist) confirmed that he will have surgery later this week to fix a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist, according to the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant. Burger initially suffered a wrist injury in the middle of August, only a few days after he had returned from the injured list. It was an injury-plagued year for the power-hitting right-hander in his first year in Texas, as he was on the IL three different times with oblique, quadriceps, and wrist ailments. He received a cortisone injection in his wrist, but he felt "popping" in and out of place for the final few weeks of the season. It helps explain why he was in a 2-for-28 slump going into Sunday's regular-season finale. Burger was also sent to the minors after struggling in April. His metrics dropped across the board, although his injuries probably had something to do with it. Burger ended up in a platoon at first base with Rowdy Tellez to close out the year.

Jake Burger Activated From Injured List

The Texas Rangers activated infielder Jake Burger (wrist) from the 10-day injured list with rosters expanding on Monday. The team also reinstated right-handed reliever Chris Martin (calf) from the 15-day IL. The Rangers have not released their starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks, so it's unclear if Burger is back in the starting lineup. Now that he's back on the big-league roster, he's likely to serve in the short side of a platoon at first base with Rowdy Tellez against left-handed pitching. The 29-year-old right-handed power hitter hit 34 home runs in 2023 with the White Sox and Marlins and almost returned to the 30-homer mark last year in Miami. However, he has just 12 long balls and 41 RBI in 84 games in 2025 in his first year in Texas and has been on the IL multiple times.

Jake Burger Could Return on Monday

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (wrist) faced live pitching on Sunday and could come off the 10-day injured list Monday, manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. Burger suffered a sprained left wrist on Aug. 17, continuing an injury-marred season for the 29-year-old. He has taken a total of three trips to the IL while also dealing with oblique and quadriceps issues. When healthy, Burger has hit an underwhelming .242/.275/.416 with 12 homers, 41 RBI, and 36 runs scored in 84 games and 309 plate appearances. The left-handed Rowdy Tellez has gotten most of the work at first base lately, and he and the right-handed Burger could share the position for the rest of the season.
