Jake Burger Having Offseason Wrist Surgery

Texas Rangers corner infielder Jake Burger (wrist) confirmed that he will have surgery later this week to fix a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist, according to the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant. Burger initially suffered a wrist injury in the middle of August, only a few days after he had returned from the injured list. It was an injury-plagued year for the power-hitting right-hander in his first year in Texas, as he was on the IL three different times with oblique, quadriceps, and wrist ailments. He received a cortisone injection in his wrist, but he felt "popping" in and out of place for the final few weeks of the season. It helps explain why he was in a 2-for-28 slump going into Sunday's regular-season finale. Burger was also sent to the minors after struggling in April. His metrics dropped across the board, although his injuries probably had something to do with it. Burger ended up in a platoon at first base with Rowdy Tellez to close out the year.

Jake Burger Activated From Injured List

The Texas Rangers activated infielder Jake Burger (wrist) from the 10-day injured list with rosters expanding on Monday. The team also reinstated right-handed reliever Chris Martin (calf) from the 15-day IL. The Rangers have not released their starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks, so it's unclear if Burger is back in the starting lineup. Now that he's back on the big-league roster, he's likely to serve in the short side of a platoon at first base with Rowdy Tellez against left-handed pitching. The 29-year-old right-handed power hitter hit 34 home runs in 2023 with the White Sox and Marlins and almost returned to the 30-homer mark last year in Miami. However, he has just 12 long balls and 41 RBI in 84 games in 2025 in his first year in Texas and has been on the IL multiple times.

Jake Burger Could Return on Monday

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (wrist) faced live pitching on Sunday and could come off the 10-day injured list Monday, manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. Burger suffered a sprained left wrist on Aug. 17, continuing an injury-marred season for the 29-year-old. He has taken a total of three trips to the IL while also dealing with oblique and quadriceps issues. When healthy, Burger has hit an underwhelming .242/.275/.416 with 12 homers, 41 RBI, and 36 runs scored in 84 games and 309 plate appearances. The left-handed Rowdy Tellez has gotten most of the work at first base lately, and he and the right-handed Burger could share the position for the rest of the season.

Jake Burger Begins Swinging the Bat

Texas Rangers corner infielder Jake Burger (wrist) has begun swinging a bat as part of a hitting progression. This is a step forward in his recovery process that will likely still take another week or so. Burger landed on the injured list on August 18 due a left wrist sprain. The hope is that he's ready to play around the 10-day mark, so it should hopefully be a minimal stint on the injured list. Rowdy Tellez and Ezequiel Duran should continue splitting up the plate appearances at first base until Burger is back.

Jake Burger Goes Back on Injured List

The Texas Rangers placed first baseman Jake Burger (wrist) on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a left-wrist sprain and recalled outfielder Alejandro Osuna from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Burger left the series finale on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays with a wrist sprain and will now miss at least the next 10 days for the scuffling Rangers. With the 29-year-old on the IL yet again this year, Rowdy Tellez should play first base against right-handed pitchers, with Ezequiel Duran starting there against lefties. Burger has been unable to stay healthy in 2025 and has been a disappointment in his first year in Texas after clubbing 29 long balls a year ago with Miami. He heads to the shelf with a .242/.275/.416 slash line, career-low .691 OPS, 12 home runs, 41 RBI and 36 runs in 84 games.

Jake Burger Exits With Wrist Discomfort

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (wrist) exited early on Sunday with left-wrist discomfort, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports. Burger went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored against the Toronto Blue Jays before the Rangers pinch-hit Ezequiel Duran for him in the top of the seventh inning. The 29-year-old has already been on the 10-day injured list twice this season (once for an oblique strain, once for a quad strain), and when healthy, his overall production has fallen short of expectations. Burger has hit an underwhelming .241/.275/.416 with 12 homers, 41 RBI, and 36 runs scored in 309 trips to the plate. To his credit, though, Burger has gotten off to a strong start in August. He's 9-for-21 with a homer, six RBI, and three runs in nine games this month.

Jake Burger Activated and Starting on Friday

The Texas Rangers activated infielder Jake Burger (quadriceps) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned outfielder Alejandro Osuna to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Burger will be the team's designated hitter on Friday and bat seventh in the series opener against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies and tough left-hander Cristopher Sanchez. The 29-year-old Burger is returning for the first time since July 16 due to a left quadriceps strain. The former first-rounder by the Chicago White Sox in 2017 out of Missouri State should play regularly in Texas between DH and first base. Burger hit 34 home runs in 2023 and nearly returned to the 30-homer mark last year, so he has plenty of pop, but also a lot of swing and miss. He's returning to a .228/.259/.401 slash line with 11 home runs, 35 RBI and 33 runs in 75 games in his first year in Texas.

Jake Burger Beginning Rehab Assignment on Saturday

Texas Rangers third baseman Jake Burger (quad) is beginning his rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Saturday. Burger has been swinging the bat since last week, but now is ready for a rehab assignment. The right-handed slugger has been out since mid-July due to a quad strain. The Rangers are hopeful that Burger can return in time for their upcoming series against the Philadelphia Phillies next weekend. Burger has struggled with the bat this season, but is a legitimate power threat when healthy.

Jake Burger Targeting Aug. 8 Return

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (quadriceps) is targeting an Aug. 8 return from the 10-day injured list, according to Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News. Burger has already missed two weeks after going on the IL on July 13 with a strained left quadriceps. When healthy, the 29-year-old has batted a subpar .228/.259/.401 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI, and a career-worst 2.8% walk rate over 286 plate appearances in his first season with the Rangers. The club has used an array of players at first base in Burger's absence. Rowdy Tellez, Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran, and Justin Foscue have each started at the position in the past week.

Jake Burger to Miss an Additional 2-3 Weeks

The Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports that Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (quadriceps) will miss two to three more weeks with a left-quadriceps strain, and in the meantime, the team will roll with a platoon at first base with the lefty-hitting Rowdy Tellez and infield prospect Justin Foscue. Tellez, who will make the start and hit seventh in his Rangers debut on Friday against Detroit Tigers right-hander Reese Olson, will be on the strong side of the platoon and will face righties. The 30-year-old lefty slugger will be a short-term waiver-wire play in deeper leagues for a little bit of power. Before latching on with Texas on a minor-league deal, Tellez hit .208 (36-for-173) earlier this year with 11 home runs, 27 RBI and 20 runs with the Mariners. Foscue made his MLB debut in 2024 and has gone just 3-for-48 with 19 K's in only 18 games at the big-league level.
