Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman John Nogowski is not in the starting lineup on Thursday night against the Brewers. This looks to be just a night off for Nogowski, who has started 18 straight games for Pittsburgh since joining the team. He's been one of the hottest hitters in the game since landing with the Pirates, slashing .343/.410/.471 with one home run, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored over 18 games. With Nogowski out, Phillip Evans will make the start at first and bat seventh against Milwaukee starter Freddy Peralta.
Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman John Nogowski hit his first career home run on Tuesday night, as he finished 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored in an 11-6 loss to the Diamondbacks. He has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball since joining the Pirates, as he's slashing .438/.491/.583 with 10 RBI and nine runs scored over 12 games with Pittsburgh. Obviously he can't keep this rate up forever, and once Colin Moran returns from the IL then his playing time will diminish, but until then he can be a useful fill-in option in fantasy.
Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman John Nogowski went 0-for-3 on Monday night, but extended his on-base streak to five games with a two-out walk in the seventh inning of a 4-2 loss to the Diamondbacks. Nogowski has been red-hot at the plate since joining Pittsburgh, slashing .422/.469/.511 with eight RBI and seven runs scored over 11 games. He figures to maintain the bulk of playing time at first base for as long as Colin Moran remains out with his fractured wrist. Nogowski is worth looking at in deeper formats for as long as he continues to hit like this, but once Moran returns from the IL it will become difficult for Nogowski to continue to see regular playing time.
John Nogowski Traded To Pirates For Cash Considerations
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman John Nogowski was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday for cash considerations, the team announced on Twitter. With Colin Moran and Erik Gonzalez both on the 10-day injured list now, the Pirates acquired some much needed depth at first base in Nogowski. He probably doesn't have any value in fantasy right now though, as he is 1-for-18 with two runs scored over 19 games this season. Nogowski and Wilmer Difo will likely split time at first until Moran or Gonzalez return. In a corresponding move, the Pirates designated relief pitcher Geoff Hartlieb for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman John Nogowski was informed that he had made the Opening Day roster, Ben Frederickson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Sunday. After making his major league debut in 2020, Nogowski was on fire throughout Spring Training, slashing .379/.526/.586 with two home runs and a 3:9 K:BB ratio in 20 games. Through his career in the minors, Nogowski has shown 15-homer potential with the ability to get on base at a high rate with a career .375 OBP which includes a 2019 performance in which he set a career-high with a .413 OBP. His value will be limited with the presence of Paul Goldschmidt in the lineup, but when he gets into the lineup he's an interesting option in deep, NL-only leagues and OBP formats.
