Robbie Grossman To Disabled List, Johnny Field Called Up
Minnesota Twins outfielder Robbie Grossman (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list on Monday. He strained his right hammy during Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Grossman was hitting .253 this season, which is right around his career average of .251. That said, he had a very good July where he hit .301 with a .791 OPS. Taking his place on the roster will be outfielder Johnny Field. The Twins claimed Field off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays on August 3. Aside from having an incredible name, Field didn't do much in 2018 down in Florida and will remain off the fantasy radar until he shows something.
The Cleveland Indians have claimed outfielder Johnny Field off of waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays and have assigned him to Triple-A. Field is capable of playing all three outfield positions and has hit .213 with six home runs, 14 RBI and four stolen bases in 2018. Cleveland has stated that they're interested in acquiring an outfielder and had been in talks for Adam Jones earlier in the season. Field might see some starts when/if he gets recalled, but he isn't worth a pickup in fantasy leagues at this time.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Johnny Field has been designated for assignment Friday. The move was required in order to make space for catcher Adam Moore on the 40-man roster. With Wilson Ramos (hamstring) on the disabled list the Rays needed to add a backup catcher to their roster. Field failed to truly take advantage of his opportunities this season, hitting .217 with six home runs and four stolen bases in 179 plate appearances. However, Field was optioned to Triple-A on July 10 to make room for first baseman Ji-Man Choi on the 25-man roster. Field will now go through waivers and could wind up getting plate appearances for another MLB team.
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Ji-Man Choi has been added to the major league roster Tuesday. Johnny Field has been optioned to Triple-A to make room for Choi. With Daniel Robertson, Joey Wendle and Jake Bauers seeing time in the outfield, Field has been deemed surplus to requirements. Choi has hit .270 with two home runs in 86 plate appearances at Triple-A for the Rays. However, Choi has failed to make an impact whenever he has been on a major league roster in the past. Choi has limited fantasy value as a backup to C.J. Cron and should not be owned outside of AL-only leagues.
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Willy Adames and outfielder Johnny Field will both start Wednesday. Adames will play second with Joey Wendle covering third and Matt Duffy receiving a day off. Field will play right field, Carlos Gomez will be the designated hitter and C.J. Cron will sit. In addition, Adeiny Hechavarria will hit second as he continues to try and stake his claim for the starting shortstop role. Facing a right-handed pitcher in Charlie Mortonmeans that none of Hechavarria, Adames or Field make for interesting DFS options on Wednesday.
Johnny Field Returns To Lineup Wednesday Versus Toronto
Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Johnny Field (knee) played Wednesday and appeared to be healthy enough to make an athletic play in the ninth inning versus the Blue Jays. Field is having a solid first season in the majors with six home runs, three steals and a .250 batting average in 128 at-bats. Field has staked a claim for a regular spot in the lineup with his performances. Given the way he has performed, Field now has fantasy value in mixed leagues. However, once Kevin Kiermaier returns, Field may find himself struggling to be an everyday player, and with it his fantasy value could plummet.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Johnny Field had an MRI after tweaking his knee on an awkward play Sunday. However, Field will be available off the bench Tuesday and should be back in the lineup soon. Field is having a solid first season in the majors with six home runs, three steals and a .256 batting average in 131 plate appearances. Field has staked a claim for a regular spot in the lineup with his performances. Given the way he has performed, Field now has fantasy value in mixed leagues. However, once Kevin Kiermaier returns, Field may find himself struggling to be an everyday player, and with it his fantasy value could plummet.
Johnny Field Drives In Three Thursday Versus Seattle
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Johnny Field did his best to bring the Rays back in the ninth Thursday versus the Mariners. He would hit a three-run double to bring them to within one run and stood at second as the tying run. The Rays still lost, but the hit was a moment of excitement for both the Rays fans and owners of Field. He has six home runs in only 117 at-bats. Field has gained regular playing time now that Denard Span is out of town. He is not a shallow league consideration. However, in much deeper leagues with daily lineup changes, he can provide some valuable power and occasional speed without crippling teams with his average.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Johnny Field will get the start in right field and hit ninth Thursday. Field took over at that position when Carlos Gomez left the game Wednesday. The right-handed hitter went deep in Wednesday's game, hitting his fifth home run of the season. In 96 plate appearances, Field is hitting .269 and has two steals to go with his five bombs. Field has now been in the lineup for four straight days, having sat out the previous two. He does not have much value in shallow leagues because of the irregular playing time. However, in deeper leagues with daily lineup changes he can provide some valuable power without hurting teams with his average.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Johnny Field would provide most of the offense Sunday against the Angels. His third-inning solo homer put the Rays up 1-0. He would later come around to score the other Tampa Bay run. In his last four games, he has gone 7-for-16 with five runs scored, two HR and four RBI. He is not a top prospect but he does have a little bit of power to go with a little bit of speed. It was going to require some injuries in order for Field to get enough playing time which occurred when Carlos Gomez went down. Gomez will likely return when he is eligible so it is hard to advocate buying Field right now.
