Nick Kurtz Departs Early Due to Illness

Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz (illness) was forced to make an early exit from Wednesday's game against the Detroit Tigers. Kurtz appeared to have jammed his hand during the first inning of this contest. Luckily, that wasn't the reason for his departure. Instead, Kurtz was pulled out of the game due to illness. He was hitless in his lone plate appearance and was replaced by Jeff McNeil at first base. Fantasy managers should consider Kurtz as day-to-day. Hopefully, he'll be ready to go in time for next week's All-Star Game in Philadelphia. Fantasy managers should check back on Thursday for another update on his status.

A's Reinstate Tyler Soderstrom From the Injured List

The Athletics announced on Wednesday that they reinstated first baseman/outfielder Tyler Soderstrom (hip) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Max Muncy to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Soderstrom should be right back in the A's starting lineup for Wednesday's contest in Detroit against right-hander Troy Melton after missing just one day over the minimum on the 10-day injured list due to a left-hip impingement. The 24-year-old left-handed-hitting slugger will return to being the team's primary left fielder on an everyday basis. Soderstrom is returning to a .242/.343/.460 slash line with an .803 OPS, 13 homers, 41 RBI, 41 runs scored, and a stolen base in his 289 at-bats in 2026. After breaking out in 2025 with 25 homers and 93 RBI in 158 games played, Soderstrom is a burgeoning power asset for fantasy managers in all formats, especially at home at hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park. Get him back into your starting lineups immediately to close out the first half of the regular season this week.

Joshua Kuroda-Grauer Emerging as a Batting Average Asset on the Waiver Wire

Athletics infield prospect Joshua Kuroda-Grauer has gotten off to a hot start since making his MLB debut on June 29, logging 12 hits in his first 27 big-league plate appearances. The 23-year-old opened 2026 in Double-A before being promoted to Triple-A in mid-May, hitting .323/.367/.478 with seven home runs, 44 RBI, 76 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases across 365 plate appearances split between the two levels. Kuroda-Grauer has gotten near-everyday run since his promotion and has a chance to emerge as the Athletics' primary third baseman if he can continue to produce. His power upside for fantasy managers is minimal, as he logged a 2.2% barrel rate at Triple-A this season. However, Kuroda-Grauer owns elite contact skills and stole 27 bases across 121 minor league games in 2025. For fantasy managers looking for some batting average and speed upside, Kuroda-Grauer could be worth targeting on the waiver wire.

Elvis Alvarado  • RP  •  Athletics

Is Elvis Alvarado a Worthy Deep-League Saves Stash?

Across 25 1/3 innings (24 games) in 2026, Athletics right-hander Elvis Alvarado has recorded a 5.33 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 32 strikeouts, and two saves. While Alvarado's surface-level numbers are not amazing, he's averaged 99.1 miles per hour on his fastball and owns a 31.1% strikeout rate. The Athletics have largely operated with a committee approach in the ninth inning so far this season, and Alvarado has not recorded a save since mid-June. Still, the 27-year-old's electric stuff makes him a higher-upside option for the A's than left-hander Hogan Harris, who currently leads the team with six saves. Alvarado is not a guaranteed source of production for fantasy managers, but he may still be worth stashing off the waiver wire in deeper leagues for his second-half breakout potential.

Hogan Harris  • RP  •  Athletics

Hogan Harris Still Worth Adding Despite Recent Struggles

Athletics left-hander Hogan Harris continues to provide steady production out of the bullpen in his fourth major league season. The 29-year-old owns a 3.38 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP, establishing himself as a reliable late-inning option for the Athletics. Harris struggled in June, posting a 6.30 ERA, but he has consistently shown the ability to bounce back from difficult stretches. His underlying metrics remain encouraging, highlighted by a .188 expected batting average that ranks in the 95th percentile across Major League Baseball. That elite contact suppression suggests better results could be on the way. Fantasy managers should remain patient despite his recent rough patch, as Harris profiles as both a strong buy-low candidate and a worthwhile waiver wire addition.

J.T. Ginn  • SP  •  Athletics

J.T. Ginn Pulled Early on Tuesday With Illness

Athletics right-hander J.T. Ginn (illness) was pulled early from his start on Tuesday against the hosting Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park due to an illness, manager Mark Kotsay told Jason Burke of Inside the A's. Kotsay said Ginn's energy level was dropping after the game. "He gave us everything he had," Kotsay said. The 27-year-old made it through four innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out four to lose his fifth game of the year. Ginn should now be considered up in the air to make his final start of the first half this Sunday against the Chicago White Sox on the road. Even if Ginn is feeling better by the weekend and is cleared to take the mound for Sunday's series finale on the South Side, fantasy managers should consider him a dangerous streamer against a White Sox team that has had an impressive turnaround in 2025. Ginn, a second-rounder by the New York Mets in 2020 out of Mississippi State University, came into his outing on Tuesday with a 7-4 record this year with a 3.04 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 82 strikeouts in 94 2/3 frames over his 19 outings (16 starts) in his third season with the A's.

Tyler Soderstrom Progressing With Baseball Activities, Could Return "Very Soon"

Athletics first baseman/outfielder Tyler Soderstrom (hip) is progressing with his baseball activities and is doing outfield drills, hitting, and running, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. Manager Mark Kotsay said there's hope that the team could get him back "very soon" from the 10-day injured list. It's unclear how soon Soderstrom will be activated, but Gallegos suggests it could come as soon as this week's series in Detroit against the Tigers. The 24-year-old is eligible to be activated from the IL at any time with his left-hip impingement. The struggling A's would love to get Soderstrom back before next week's All-Star break. When he returns, he'll be coming back to a .242/.343/.460 slash line with an .803 OPS, 13 home runs, 41 RBI, 41 runs scored, and a stolen base in 80 games across 335 plate appearances in his fourth year in the big leagues. Soderstrom is rostered in 91% of Yahoo leagues for his emerging power stroke from the left side, so he shouldn't be available in many fantasy formats. In 24 games in June, Soderstrom went 23-for-81 (.284) with six homers, three doubles, 15 RBI, and 15 runs scored in 98 plate appearances.

Shea Langeliers Back in A's Lineup on Tuesday

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers (thumb) is back behind the plate to catch right-hander J.T. Ginn on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers and left-hander Tarik Skubal and is hitting third in the batting order, per MLB.com. Langeliers will return to the field following Monday's scheduled day off after missing the last two games due to a left-thumb contusion. He'll return to a tough matchup against Skubal, whom he's hitting .154 against with a .539 OPS, with a homer and four RBI in his 13 career at-bats. The 28-year-old backstop is one of the best power options at the catching position in fantasy baseball, though, and he'll return to a .264/.328/.494 slash line with an .822 OPS, 20 homers, 44 RBI, 51 runs scored, and two stolen bases this year in his 330 at-bats. Langeliers has now reached the 20-homer mark in all four of his full seasons in the majors, and he's on pace to break his career high of 31 long balls, which was set in 123 games in 2025. He has been cold at the plate in his last 11 games, going 8-for-42 (.190) with a homer, four RBI, two runs, one stolen base, four walks, and 14 strikeouts.

Jacob Wilson  • SS  •  Athletics

A's Reinstate Jacob Wilson From Injured List on Tuesday

The Athletics reinstated infielder Jacob Wilson (thumb) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. The A's have yet to release their starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park, but Wilson will most likely be back at the 6 against left-hander Tarik Skubal. The 24-year-old has been out the last two weeks with inflammation in his right thumb, and he didn't require a minor-league rehab assignment before returning. Wilson makes a lot of contact and rarely strikes out, helping fantasy managers with a high average (.277), but his batted-ball metrics leave a lot to be desired, and that's about where his fantasy upside ends. In addition to his .277 average, the former sixth overall pick out of Grand Canyon University in 2023 has just four homers, 26 RBI, 23 runs scored, and only two stolen bases in his 202 at-bats in 2026 in just his second full season in the big leagues. In DFS and in season-long leagues, it's probably best to leave Wilson out of your lineups on Tuesday if he's active against Skubal.

Tyler Soderstrom Remains Shut Down From Baseball Activities

Athletics outfielder/first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (hip) remains shut down from any baseball activities, per MLB.com. Soderstrom was placed on the 10-Day injured list in late June due to a left-hip impingement that appears likely to sideline him through at least the All-Star break. Across 335 plate appearances in 2026 before the injury, Soderstrom hit .242/.343/.460 with 13 home runs, 41 RBI, 41 runs scored, and one stolen base. With a 12.8% walk rate and a 17.6% strikeout rate, the 24-year-old has demonstrated a promising plate approach. Soderstrom also brings solid underlying contact metrics, as he owns an 11% barrel rate and a 47.3% hard-hit rate across over 1,300 career MLB plate appearances. With Soderstrom sidelined, Athletics utility man Zack Gelof, outfielder Carlos Cortes, and outfielder Colby Thomas are all candidates to see more time in left field.

Jacob Wilson Not Expected to Return Until After All-Star Break

Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson (thumb) has been shut down from hitting due to right thumb inflammation and is not expected to return from the 10-day injured list until after the All-Star break, per MLB.com. Wilson emerged as a high-end source of batting average for fantasy managers in 2025, hitting .311/.355/.444 with 13 home runs, 63 RBI, 62 runs scored, and five stolen bases across 523 plate appearances. However, the 24-year-old has seen his numbers drop across the board in 2026 as he's battled shoulder and now thumb injuries. Across 214 plate appearances this season, Wilson is hitting .277/.310/.386 with four home runs, 26 RBI, 23 runs scored, and two stolen bases. With Wilson sidelined, Athletics infielder Alika Williams will likely continue to see the majority of the team's playing time at shortstop.

Jonah Heim  • C  •  Athletics

Jonah Heim Drives in Six, Worth a Short-Term Pickup at Catcher?

Athletics catcher Jonah Heim could be playing regularly in the final week before the All-Star break if Shea Langeliers (thumb) lands on the injured list. Serving as the designated hitter in Sunday's series finale against the visiting Miami Marlins, the 31-year-old veteran had a day to remember at the dish, going 2-for-4 with a grand slam, six RBI, and a strikeout in the team's 9-8 loss at Sutter Health Park. The former All-Star is now hitting .241/.300/.490 with a .790 OPS, nine home runs, 29 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 46 total games this year with the A's and Atlanta Braves. Since joining the A's, he's gone 26-for-106 (.245) with eight home runs, 21 RBI, and 16 runs scored in 34 games across 115 plate appearances. Heim's fantasy value in two-catcher leagues has seen a boost with the move to Sacramento, and he'll be worth a look off the waiver wire if Langeliers is forced to miss additional time due to a thumb injury. As an All-Star in 2023 with the Texas Rangers, Heim hit a career-high 18 homers and drove in 95 in 131 regular-season games.

Shea Langeliers Remains Out on Sunday

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers (thumb) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins. This marks the second straight game that Langeliers has missed due to a left thumb contusion. The A's are off on Monday, so the team is hopeful to get him back for Tuesday's series opener versus the Detroit Tigers. In his absence, Brian Serven will draw the start behind the plate and bat ninth against right-hander Eury Perez. Fantasy managers should check back ahead of Tuesday's game for another update on Langeliers. In the meantime, they should pull him out of their lineups on Sunday with him missing his second straight contest.

Leo De Vries Nearing Triple-A Promotion?

Athletics infield prospect Leo De Vries has continued to enjoy a hot streak at Double-A and turned in another strong showing on Saturday. Facing Double-A Frisco, De Vries went 2-for-5 with his 10th long ball of the season. Over his last 17 games with Midland, the No. 2-ranked prospect in baseball (per MLB.com) has posted a sharp .268/.373/.549 line with five of these home runs. However, prior to this noted stretch, the 19-year-old has posted a .278/.365/.378 line with just six doubles and five long balls over his first 54 games of the season. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor De Vries' production as he should be in the mix to join Triple-A shortly after the All-Star break. If he can carry this production into the top level, a late-season MLB debut could remain in play.

Zack Gelof Activated Off the Injured List on Saturday

Athletics infielder Zack Gelof (hand) was activated off the 10-day Injured List on Saturday. Gelof is back in the mix after missing the minimum 10 days while recovering from a right-hand contusion. The A's felt that Gelof didn't need a rehab assignment, so he'll be back in the lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins. Through 62 games, Gelof is slashing .282/.336/.498 with 11 home runs, 29 RBI, and eight steals this season. He offers enough overall upside to warrant a look in all fantasy formats. He could be worth scooping up in leagues where he was dropped while on the shelf.

Thumb Injury Keeps Shea Langeliers Out on Saturday

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers (thumb) will not be in the team's starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the visiting Miami Marlins on the Fourth of July, according to MLB.com. Jonah Heim will catch right-hander Aaron Civale and will bat cleanup for the A's versus Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara. It's unclear how serious Langeliers' left-thumb injury is, but it's worth noting that the A's called up Brian Serven from Triple-A Las Vegas for more catching depth, which could be a sign that he could be on the verge of landing on the injured list, which would keep him out for the rest of the first half of the season. Langeliers was forced from Friday's game early with his thumb injury. The 28-year-old former ninth overall pick in 2019 out of Baylor University is a must-start in all fantasy leagues when he's healthy, as one of the best power-hitting catchers in baseball. He has hit .264 (87-for-330) with 20 long balls, 44 RBI, 51 runs, and two steals in 80 games so far in 2026. Heim will serve as the A's primary backstop for however long Langeliers is out.

Henry Bolte  • CF  •  Athletics

Henry Bolte a Waiver-Wire Boost for Stolen Bases?

Athletics rookie outfielder Henry Bolte has already become one of the better speed pickups on the waiver wire. He's batting .293/.376/.373 with 15 runs, 14 RBI, two home runs, and 11 steals across 150 at-bats. He has also appeared in center field 46 times since his May promotion, so the playing time has been steady. Bolte leads the majors with a 30.5 feet-per-second sprint speed, giving him a chance to make a real difference in stolen bases. The power is still a work in progress. Bolte has hit the ball hard, but his 64.4% ground-ball rate and 27.6% strikeout rate help explain why he has only two homers. That does not take away from what he can offer right now. RotoBaller recommends him in leagues with 10 or more teams, and Yahoo managers have pushed his roster rate to just 13% so far. Anyone chasing speed should act before the rest of the market catches up.

Shea Langeliers Leaves Friday's Game Early With Thumb Injury

Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers (thumb) was forced from Friday's game early against the Miami Marlins with a left-thumb injury, according to Theo DeRosa of MLB.com. Before being pulled prematurely, Langeliers went 0-for-2 at the plate with two strikeouts. Jonah Heim entered the contest as a pinch-hitter and replaced Langeliers behind the dish. For now, we'll consider Langeliers as day-to-day until we know more about the severity of his thumb injury. It would be a major blow to fantasy managers and the A's if Langeliers is forced to miss extended time with his injury, as he's one of the best power producers at the position in the game with a hitter-friendly home ballpark in Sacramento to boot. The 28-year-old former ninth overall pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2019 out of Baylor University came into Friday's contest with a .265/.330/.497 slash line, .827 OPS, 20 homers, 44 RBI, 51 runs, and two stolen bases in 328 at-bats. Heim would serve as the A's primary backstop if Langeliers is forced to miss additional time. Check back on Saturday for an update on the severity of Langeliers' thumb injury.

Gage Jump  • SP  •  Athletics

Gage Jump Still Waiver-Wire Worthy After Recent Poor Outing

Athletics rookie left-hander Gage Jump has proven himself to be pretty effective in his first seven major-league starts, going 3-2 with a 2.93 ERA (2.66 FIP) and 1.12 WHIP with 40 strikeouts and 10 walks in 40 innings pitched. The 23-year-old former second-round selection in 2024 out of Louisiana State University hit a road bump in his most recent outing, though, giving up a season-high five earned runs on 11 hits (two homers) while walking none and striking out five on June 29 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It broke a string of two straight scoreless appearances against the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants in which he struck out 16 and walked only four. We'll give Jump a pass against the back-to-back World Series champions in what was just his seventh major-league start. The A's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has plenty of upside with a 25% strikeout rate and 6.3% walk rate, although he'll be much riskier as a fantasy streamer at home at hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park. In four starts in Sacramento, Jump has a 4.98 ERA with 26 hits allowed, compared to a 0.49 ERA in two road starts so far.

Brent Rooker to Have Season-Ending Knee Surgery

Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker (knee) is scheduled to have season-ending surgery to address cartilage in his left knee, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. Rooker was having his knee checked by doctors at Stanford University on Tuesday, and apparently they didn't like what they saw after the A's initially put the right-handed slugger on the injured list in early June with what they called a bone bruise in his knee. The 31-year-old will now miss the rest of the 2026 campaign due to a torn cartilage in his knee. It's a crushing blow for Rooker's fantasy managers after he got off to a rough start to the season with a .200/.281/.389 slash line with a .670 OPS, 10 homers, 29 RBI, 20 runs scored, and two stolen bases in his 180 at-bats. In single-year fantasy leagues, managers can now cut ties with Rooker and send him to the waiver wire in search of a replacement. Going forward, the left-handed-hitting Jonah Heim should continue to serve as the A's primary designated hitter against right-handed pitchers.
