Nick Kurtz Launches Home Run No. 7

Athletics infield prospect Nick Kurtz launched his seventh home run of the Triple-A regular season on Saturday against El Paso. The former fourth overall pick in last year's MLB Draft has enjoyed an incredible start to the season and is nearing his MLB debut. Across his first 14 games at the Triple-A level, Kurtz has posted a .367/.409/.817 slash line with six doubles and seven round-trippers. He has tallied 22 RBI, scored 15 runs, and held a 5:15 BB:K. The Wake Forest product enjoyed a strong spring training as well, which allowed him the opportunity to begin the regular season at the top level of the minor leagues. After being drafted last summer, Kurtz saw a brief look at Low-A and Double-A and held an overall .368/.520/.763 slash line. Fantasy managers in 12-team formats should consider stashing Kurtz as he will be a must-start option when he reaches the big leagues.

J.T. Ginn Looks Solid In Season Debut

Athletics starting pitcher J.T. Ginn got the call for Saturday's game after posting two excellent performances in Triple-A to begin the season. He didn't have an easy task against the New York Mets, but Ginn did well in this one. Ginn tossed five shutout innings before giving up a solo home run to Brandon Nimmo in the sixth inning. He would finish his day allowing one run on four hits while striking out six batters in the win. The expectation is that Ginn will stick in the rotation to face the Milwaukee Brewers next week. He could be worth a look as a low-end streaming option for that game.

Mason Miller Records Fourth Save

Athletics relief pitcher Mason Miller was asked to hold a two-run lead versus the New York Mets on Saturday. The right-hander needed only 15 pitches to finish off this Mets lineup. He gave up a two-out single to Tyrone Taylor, but was able to work around it and record his fourth save of the season. Miller has worked five innings, allowing zero earned runs, three hits, and striking out nine batters. He's an elite closer that should be rostered in all fantasy formats.

Nick Kurtz Homers For Sixth Time In First 10 Games

Athletics first base prospect Nick Kurtz was back at it again on Wednesday, belting his minor-league leading sixth home run in a 1-for-5 day at the plate for Triple-A Las Vegas. The home run was the two-run variety, bringing him to a league-leading 17 RBI as well. The blast was recorded at 110.5 mph off the bat and traveled a whopping 455 feet. There isn't much left to say about the kid as he continues to put on a hitting display daily, and while Tyler Soderstrom was back in the lineup on Wednesday for the A's after an early exit on Tuesday, it feels like a call-up is coming soon and the team will find him at-bats. With as hot as his bat is and as near to the big leagues as the 2024 first-round draft pick is, the 6-foot-3 slugger is one of the few early-season priority prospect stashes in deep leagues and 12-teamers with an available bench spot (or NA spot).

Tyler Soderstrom Starting On Wednesday

Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (calf) is in the starting nine on Wednesday afternoon when they conclude their series against the San Diego Padres. Soderstrom was removed from Tuesday's contest due to a calf contusion. However, the injury was not serious, and the former first-round pick is already returning to action. He will cover first base and bat in the three-hole. Soderstrom has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign as he has posted a .378/.440/.822 slash line with six long balls across 12 contests. He has generated a stellar .415 xwOBA with a .626 xSLG. He is a solid play in DFS facing San Diego right-hander Randy Vasquez.

Colby Thomas Swinging A Hot Bat At Triple-A

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas has been off to an impressive start to the Triple-A regular season. On Tuesday, Thomas enjoyed his best outing of the campaign as he tallied three hits, including a home run and a triple. This was his first three-hit game of the season. Through the first nine games of the campaign, Thomas has held a .314/.400/.600 slash line with two doubles, one triple, and two round-trippers. Last summer, Thomas spent 73 games with Triple-A Las Vegas and posted a strong .272/.344/.559 slash line with 25 doubles and 17 home runs. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression as he should be in the mix for an early-season MLB debut. He is worth stashing in AL-only formats as he may only need another few weeks with Triple-A.

JJ Bleday Homers, Drives In Three On Tuesday

Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday turned in a big game in a 10-4 win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. Bleday went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, a walk, three runs, and three RBI to help power his team to the win. The veteran outfielder kicked off the scoring for the A's with a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning and followed that up with a solo homer in the seventh inning. Bleday will hope his big day will get his bat going as he is off to a slow start this season, hitting just .209 with one homer, nine runs, and four RBI through 43 at-bats.

Nick Kurtz Hits Another Home Run, Collects Three More RBI

Athletics first baseman prospect Nick Kurtz went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored on Tuesday for Triple-A Las Vegas. The home run tied him for the minor league lead with five, and his 15 RBI leads all minor league players. The 2024 first-round draft pick is red-hot to begin the year, now hitting .410 with a whopping 1.375 OPS. With Athletics' first baseman Tyler Soderstrom going on his own power binge to begin the year, it's unclear how Kurtz finds at-bats in the majors, but with the way he's hitting, expect them to find a way. Notably, Soderstrom was removed from Tuesday's game against the Padres due to calf tightness, and it was considered precautionary, but it is a situation worth monitoring. Kurtz remains one of the top prospect stash candidates for fantasy as his call-up appears to be getting closer and closer.

Tyler Soderstrom Exits Early Tuesday With Right-Calf Tightness

Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (calf) exited Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Padres early with right-calf tightness, per MLB.com's Martin Gallegos. The 23-year-old had a baserunner collide with his right leg while reaching for a high throw at first base earlier in the game, but he was able to stay in the game before being pinch-hit for by Max Schuemann in the eighth inning. Soderstrom went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk before exiting. He should be considered day-to-day until any further news comes out. Hopefully, the move was just precautionary, as Soderstrom has gotten off to a great start at the plate, slashing .378/.440/.822 with six home runs and 10 RBI in 50 plate appearances.

Ryan Lasko  • CF  •  Athletics

Ryan Lasko Hits Seven-Day Injured List

The Athletics have placed outfield prospect Ryan Lasko (undisclosed) on the 7-day injured list at High-A. The Athletics did not specify when Lasko sustained this injury. The Athletics drafted the 22-year-old in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft. Last summer, Lasko spent most of his time at Low-A before moving up to High-A. With Low-A Stockton, the Rutgers product posted a .225/.359/.322 slash line with 19 doubles and four home runs. He did most of his damage on the basepaths, swiping 20 bags. Then at High-A, Lasko held a .245/.341/.342 line with seven doubles and 13 stolen bases across 41 contests. When he returns to action, fantasy managers should expect Lasko to open the 2025 campaign with High-A Lunsing. He could push for a mid-season Double-A debut.

Tyler Soderstrom Hits Two More Homers Monday

Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom continued to flex his muscles early in the season in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Padres. Soderstrom went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs and a walk. The 23-year-old lined a third-inning Michael King offering into the right-field bullpen and launched a seventh-inning Jeremiah Estrada offering over the right-field bullpen. The former fantasy prospect is starting to show why he was highly regarded, slashing .381/.435/.857 with six HR and 10 RBI in 46 plate appearances. Soderstrom would have even greater fantasy appeal if he were able to gain catcher eligibility, although he has yet to make a start behind the plate. Regardless, he is providing plenty of fantasy value as a first baseman, making him worth a look in all leagues at this time.

Jason Alexander  • SP  •  Athletics

Jason Alexander Joins Big-League Roster

The Athletics selected the contract of right-hander Jason Alexander from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday and optioned right-hander Joey Estes to Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Alexander will be making his first appearance in the big leagues since 2022, when he appeared in 18 games (11 starts) and had a 5.40 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 71 2/3 innings with the Milwaukee Brewers. The A's bullpen was taxed over the weekend in their series at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies, so Alexander will provide some length in relief before most likely being sent back down to Las Vegas. The 32-year-old veteran made one start for Vegas this year before his call-up, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking none and striking out three in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Alexander won't move the needle at all for fantasy managers in any leagues.

Lawrence Butler Hits First Home Run Of 2025 On Sunday

Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI, and a run scored in Sunday's 12-5 loss to the Rockies. The 6-foot-3 left-handed slugger, who signed a big off-season contract extension, got off to a slow start to begin the year, going 4-for-24 (.167) over the first seven games, but now has three consecutive multi-hit efforts during which time he is 7-for-14 (.500). The 24-year-old is now hitting .289 on the young season with four extra base hits, two RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base, and a fantastic 6:5 BB:K. It amounts to a .370 wOBA and a 142 wRC+ for the former sixth-round draft pick, who should continue to be a strong fantasy producer hitting atop the A's lineup.

Nick Kurtz Goes Deep On Sunday, Extends Hitting Streak To Eight Games

Athletics first base prospect Nick Kurtz went 1-for-4 with a solo shot on Sunday. This was his fourth long ball of the Triple-A regular season. This round-tripper also extended his current hitting streak to eight games. The former fourth overall pick from last year's draft was assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas at the start of the regular season and has performed at an elite level. Through his first eight games, Kurtz has posted an incredible .412/.459/.882 slash line with eight total extra-base hits. He has brought in 12 runs, scored eight, and held a 3:7 BB:K. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production, but Kurtz is becoming an intriguing stash candidate given his impressive start to the regular season. Even though Tyler Soderstrom is the everyday first baseman in the majors, Kurtz may push his way to the big leagues sooner rather than later.

Jacob Wilson Launches Second Long Ball, Extends Hitting Streak To Eight Games

Athletics shortstop prospect Jacob Wilson went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI during their 6-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday afternoon. Wilson tallied his first hit with a solo blast in the fourth inning off Colorado starter Ryan Feltner. Later in the 11th inning, the former sixth overall pick would play the hero as he hit a go-ahead two-run single, which scored JJ Bleday and Shea Langeliers. Wilson has tallied at least one hit in the first eight games of the regular season and posted two straight multi-hit outings. He has gone deep twice and added a double with five total RBI. Wilson received a brief taste of the majors last season but was only able to appear in 28 games before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. The 23-year-old remains a strong No. 1 shortstop in all formats as he continues this impressive start. On Saturday, he will look to push his streak to nine games against German Marquez.

Brett Harris Activated, Optioned To Triple-A

The Athletics have activated third baseman Brett Harris (oblique) from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas. Harris has been dealing with this minor injury throughout March but is now cleared to return to a full-time role with Las Vegas. Harris has already appeared in three rehab games at the level but will now officially be cleared from injury. Harris tallied one hit in each contest during these three rehab games and added two RBI. Last season, the Gonzaga product made his MLB debut and posted a .146/.276/.262 slash line with three doubles and three long balls across 36 contests. Harris drew walks at an elite 13.8 percent rate during this stint but generated a low .274 xwOBA. He should eventually push for a return to the big leagues later in the campaign.

Jacob Wilson Extends Hitting Streak To Seven Games

Athletics shortstop prospect Jacob Wilson extended his hitting streak to seven games during Wednesday's loss to the Chicago Cubs. In this contest, Wilson went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double. This was his first multi-hit outing of the regular season. Over his previous six games, Wilson tallied at least one hit in all of them. He hit his first career MLB home run on March 31. The former sixth overall selection received a brief taste of the major leagues last season before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. However, he was able to win the starting shortstop job during camp and has become a valuable asset in all fantasy formats. Through seven games this season, the 23-year-old has held an overall .375/.375/.542 slash line with three runs and two RBI. Even though he typically bats at the back-half of the lineup, he is a viable starting middle infielder in all leagues, especially if you are looking to boost your batting average production.

Nick Kurtz Belts Third Home Run In Last Four Games

Athletics first baseman prospect Nick Kurtz demolished his third home run of the young season on Wednesday, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored for Triple-A Las Vegas. The left-handed slugger is now 10-for-21 (.476) with five extra-base hits, nine RBI, and six runs scored over the first five games of 2025. The 2024 first-rounder didn't disappoint in his limited action last season between Single and Double-A, slashing .368/.520/.763 with four home runs and a 12:10 BB:K in 12 games. With Jacob Wilson about to graduate from prospect status, Kurtz will likely sit atop the organization's prospect ranks in the near future, and while MLB.com's Top Prospects list gives him an ETA of 2026, it would not be a surprise to see him in the big leagues later this year as fellow 2024 draftee Cam Smith has already debuted with the Astros, as has the Angels' Ryan Johnson. Kurtz has the potential to be a star and would be a stash candidate for fantasy if there were rumblings of a promotion at any point this year.

Nick Kurtz Tallies Three Hits On Tuesday

Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz went 3-for-6 with a home run during their victory on Tuesday evening. Kurtz launched a two-run shot in the fifth inning. Kurtz was selected with the fourth overall pick in last year's MLB Draft out of Wake Forest and has been performing at an elite level through his first taste of Triple-A. Across his first four regular season games, Kurtz has tallied at least one hit in each contest and posted two three-hit outings. Kurtz has gone deep twice during this hot start and added two doubles. He has tallied six RBI and scored five runs. Last season, the 22-year-old received a brief 12-game taste of the minor leagues after being drafted. Across 12 games split between Low-A and Double-A, Kurtz posted a .368/.520/.763 slash line. If he continues this elite production at Triple-A, he will be in contention for an MLB debut later this summer.

Brent Rooker Goes Deep In Tuesday's Loss

Athletics designated hitter Brent Rooker went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run during their loss to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday evening. Rooker went deep in the opening frame off Chicago Cubs left-handed pitcher Justin Steele. This two-run shot also scored outfielder Lawrence Butler. Later in the contest, he would cross home plate a second time on a Shea Langeliers home run. Rooker has turned the corner since going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts on Opening Day, going 7-for-22 with two home runs, five RBI, and four runs across his previous five contests. Last summer, the 30-year-old posted an impressive .293/.365/.562 slash line with 26 doubles and 39 home runs. His home run total was the fourth-most in the American League. He will look to stay hot on Wednesday, facing Jameson Taillon.
