Athletics Turn to Hogan Harris for Another Save, Is He the Closer to Roster?

Athletics left-hander Hogan Harris picked up his sixth save of 2026 on Friday, striking out two across 1 1/3 scoreless innings in his team's 6-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. Across 33 2/3 innings (36 games) on the year, Harris has pitched to a 2.67 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with 39 strikeouts, six saves, and 10 holds. The Athletics have opted for a committee approach in the closer role for most of 2026, but Harris may be settling in as the team's preferred option. He's worked in the ninth inning in five out of his last six appearances, notching two saves and a blown save in that span. The 30-year-old owns a worrisome 15.2% walk rate and an unimpressive 10.6% K-BB rate, so fantasy managers may not want to rely on Harris for high-end closer production. Still, Harris looks like the favorite for saves in the Athletics bullpen and could be worth targeting on the waiver wire in leagues where he remains available.

Hogan Harris Blows Second Save, Will he Remain Primary Option in Athletics Bullpen?

Athletics relief pitcher Hogan Harris entered the eighth inning of Monday night's wild, 15-14 loss to the Brewers. He couldn't secure the five-out save even though he escaped the eighth inning by inducing a double-play from Brice Turang. In the ninth, he ran into trouble and allowed a two-run double to Andrew Vaughn before striking out the side to avoid further damage. He left the game tied at 10 and was charged with two earned runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings. Harris is 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA and 3.96 FIP in his 31 2/3 innings this season and has nine holds and five saves to go with his two blown saves this year. With Joel Kuhnel traded and Jack Perkins in the rotation, Harris will likely remain a key part of the closer committee with Scott Barlow and Mark Leiter Jr. He's still the slight favorite of the three for save chances, but the A's will continue to rotate options at the end of games, making all of their bullpen arms hard to count on for fantasy production.

Is Hogan Harris a Legitimate Source of Saves?

The Athletics are currently using a closer-by-committee approach to the ninth inning, but left-handed reliever Hogan Harris might deserve some more consideration off the waiver wire from fantasy managers in need of saves going forward. The 29-year-old southpaw has been a reliable late-inning option for the A's this year and picked up his third win of 2026 in Wednesday night's 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, throwing a hitless and scoreless inning with no walks and two strikeouts. Justin Sterner ended up with the save in the ballgame, but Harris, Mark Leiter Jr., and Scott Barlow are still the best ninth-inning options for manager Mark Kotsay. Since blowing his first save of the year on April 28 against the Kansas City Royals, Harris has tightened things up with three earned runs allowed, seven walks, 16 strikeouts, four saves, three holds, and a win in 15 appearances for the A's. He has not allowed a run in 12 of his last 13 appearances. Fantasy managers should jump on Harris now, and he's only rostered in 11% of Yahoo leagues.

Hogan Harris Struggles on Sunday, Will he Lose Value in Closer Committee?

Athletics left-hander Hogan Harris struggled with his command Sunday in a win vs. the San Diego Padres, recording only one out while issuing two walks. Harris threw just six strikes across 15 pitches, continuing a troubling trend that has followed him throughout the season. His 16.7 BB percent ranks among the worst marks in Major League Baseball and remains a major concern in high-leverage situations. Despite the control issues, Harris has managed to post a respectable 2.96 ERA while collecting four saves, tying him with John Kuhnel and Mark Leiter for the team lead. Still, late-inning roles leave little margin for error, and the Athletics could begin distributing more ninth-inning opportunities elsewhere if the walks continue piling up. Fantasy managers should monitor the bullpen situation closely moving forward.

Hogan Harris Earns Another Save, Emerging as Primary Closer for Athletics?

Athletics relief pitcher Hogan Harris closed out the team's comeback victory over the Angels on Wednesday night, preserving a one-run lead in the 10th inning to earn his fourth save of the year. Harris issued two walks (one intentional), but he forced Jorge Soler to ground out to second to end the game with the bases loaded. Harris has secured the team's two most recent saves and has a 3.00 ERA and 4.65 FIP in his 24 innings this season. The lefty has not allowed a run in six of his last seven appearances and seems to be the preferred closer option with a slight advantage over righties Jack Perkins and Joel Kuhnel. Perkins and Kuhnel did not appear in the A's 10-inning win on Wednesday after all three relievers pitched on Tuesday. The A's close out their four-game set in Anaheim on Thursday before heading to San Diego for three games this weekend. Harris is a solid big-picture closer pickup in deep leagues, although he may not get the call on Thursday after pitching two straight games. The A's closer committee will continue to be an important situation to monitor, but for now, Harris seems to be the first option.

Athletics Turn to Hogan Harris for Third Save, Worth Adding in Deeper Leagues?

Athletics left-hander Hogan Harris picked up his third save of the season on Friday, working a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout in his team's 5-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. Harris has now recorded saves in two out of his last four appearances and could be emerging as a larger part of his team's ninth-inning mix. The Athletics have used a committee approach to close games all season long, with right-handers Joel Kuhnel and Jack Perkins also earning save opportunities. Harris also owns a 16.5% walk rate and a 1.64 WHIP on the year, so fantasy managers should be aware that he's unlikely to provide high-end closer production. Still, in deeper leagues, Harris could be worth targeting on the waiver wire as a low-cost source of saves.

Hogan Harris Secures One-Out Save for Athletics, Worth Adding in Deeper Leagues?

Athletics relief pitcher Hogan Harris came on in the ninth inning of his team's one-run win over the Orioles on Friday night. He didn't start the inning, but he did get the final out to earn his second save of the year. Jack Perkins actually got the call to start the final frame but gave up a run on a walk and a single, with Harris coming in with a runner on first and two outs. Harris walked Leody Taveras but then fanned Jeremiah Jackson to end the threat and secure the victory. Perkins, Harris, and Joel Kuhnel continue to share work at the end of the game, and all three pitched on Friday. Harris has been the best of the trio lately, with Perkins blowing a save on Wednesday and struggling again on Friday. In deeper leagues, Harris has enough value and potential to take over the role to be a strong stash candidate if you are desperately seeking saves.

Hogan Harris Secures First Save, Adds to Bullpen Committee

Athletics relief pitcher Hogan Harris was called upon to hold a one-run lead versus the New York Yankees on Thursday. A's manager Mark Kotsay decided to play the matchups with a trio of left-handed batters coming up for the Yankees. Harris retired all three batters to record his first save of the season. Harris only has five career saves, but he could be gaining more trust as a late-inning option. The A's have turned to three different pitchers to record saves for them this season. It looks like Harris could be another option for them if the opposing team has a heavy dose of left-handed batters.

Hogan Harris Earns Four-Out Save Tuesday

Athletics relief pitcher Hogan Harris earned his third save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Red Sox. Harris entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning up by one with two outs and a runner on first. Harris picked Nick Sogard off while trying to steal second, ending the inning. He stayed on to pitch the bottom of the ninth. He got the first out on a pop-out, allowed a single, and induced a ground-ball double-play to end the game. Harris has only seen three save opportunities this season but has converted them all. He has two wins and three holds to go with a 3.26 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, a 9.00 K/9 rate, and a 5.12 BB/9 rate in 58 innings pitched. His lack of consistent high-leverage exposure and his high walk rate have limited his fantasy value this season.

Hogan Harris Optioned To Triple-A

The Athletics have optioned left-handed pitcher Hogan Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas. Harris tallied just one out in the majors during the opening week of the campaign. In a corresponding move, the Athletics claimed left-handed Angel Perdomo on waivers. Last season, the 28-year-old logged 72 1/3 innings in the major leagues and posted a 2.86 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP. He tallied 61 punchouts and served up a high 33 free passes. He generated a modest 5.04 xERA with a .260 xBA, which suggests he will likely see some regression during the 2025 regular season. Across 142 career innings at the Triple-A level, the southpaw posted a high 6.40 ERA with a 1.75 WHIP. During this stint, he served up 94 walks. Fantasy managers should expect Harris to likely return to the majors as a relief option later in the campaign.
