Gage Jump is A Must-Add Player Coming Off Career-Best Effort Thursday

Athletics left-hander Gage Jump was lights-out on Thursday night at home against the Los Angeles Angels, throwing seven shutout innings of zero-run ball, racking up seven strikeouts, and allowing only one hit. This season, and in his career, Jump has now made five starts for the Athletics and has an excellent 2.37 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 30 innings pitched (five starts), with a 22 percent strikeout rate. While his strikeout rate is lacking, he did have a 33.1 percent strikeout rate in Triple-A this season and a 28.4 percent strikeout rate in the Minors last year across Double-A and High-A, meaning there is more room for improvement at the Major League level. Nonetheless, he has been spectacular for the Athletics, and the 23-year-old has become a must-add player in all formats due to his production thus far and the upside he could show if he starts generating more whiffs and strikeouts, as he has at other levels of his professional career. Up next for Jump is a road game against the San Francisco Giants.

Gage Jump Proving Worthy of a Waiver-Wire Pickup Despite Inexperience?

Athletics rookie left-hander Gage Jump, who is considered the team's No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has more than held his own in his first four major-league starts. The 23-year-old former second-round pick in 2024 out of Louisiana State University has gone 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA (2.51 FIP) and 1.11 WHIP with 19 strikeouts and six walks in 23 1/3 innings pitched. The young southpaw allowed four earned runs in five innings to the Seattle Mariners in his MLB debut on May 26, but he followed that up with two quality starts versus the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros. At the hitter-friendly minor-league venues of Sacramento and Las Vegas, Jump has surrendered seven runs in 10 innings in two starts, while he's been much better on the road. In shallow-mixed fantasy leagues, fantasy managers should keep an eye on Jump, while in deeper leagues, he's worth considering off the waiver wire as a matchup-based streamer. He has pitched well enough so far to keep his rotation spot once Aaron Civale (shoulder) returns from the injured list.

Gage Jump Emerging as a Priority SP Target Off the Waiver Wire

Athletics left-hander Gage Jump made his major league debut on May 26 and has shown the kind of stuff that made him a notable pitching prospect coming out of LSU. Through his first two big-league starts, Jump owns a 3.75 ERA with 10 strikeouts across 12 innings. He bounced back from a shaky debut by holding the Chicago Cubs to one run over seven innings Tuesday, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out five to earn his first MLB win. He has shown the ability to miss bats with a fastball that sits 93-96 mph and a sharp slider. Jump's fantasy appeal comes from the strikeout upside he showed before his promotion. The 23-year-old recorded 56 strikeouts in 38 innings over nine starts at Triple-A Las Vegas, giving him enough swing-and-miss ability to matter if he sticks in the Athletics' rotation. The sample is still small, and young pitchers on struggling teams can be volatile, but Jump is worth a speculative add on the waiver wire in leagues with 12 teams or more for managers looking for starting pitching help.

Gage Jump Remains a Worthy Waiver-Wire Target Due to Strikeout Upside

Athletics pitching prospect Gage Jump made his MLB debut last Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners, allowing nine hits and four earned runs while striking out five across five innings of work. While the 23-year-old's first start in the majors was a bit of a struggle, he remains a potentially intriguing starting pitching option for fantasy managers. Across 38 innings (nine starts) with Triple-A Las Vegas before his promotion, Jump pitched to a 4.50 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 56 strikeouts. Particularly given that he will be making his home starts in the hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park, Jump may not provide much value in the ERA and WHIP categories for fantasy managers. However, the young lefty carries significant strikeout upside after posting strikeout rates of 33.1% and 28.4% in the minors in 2026 and 2025, respectively. Fantasy managers in need of whiffs may want to consider targeting Jump on the waiver wire ahead of a potential breakout.

Is Gage Jump a Priority Pickup Ahead of Tuesday's MLB Debut?

Athletics pitching prospect Gage Jump has been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas and will start on Tuesday at home against the Mariners. The start will be his major league debut after making nine starts for the Aviators this season. The Athletics' third-ranked prospect's season-long numbers don't look all that impressive (4.50 ERA, 1.47 WHIP), but he's looked terrific in his last two outings, allowing no runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out 15 over 11 innings pitched. The southpaw has struck out at least six batters in five straight contests and six of nine overall, leading to a superb 33.1 percent strikeout rate. The 23-year-old also owns a high 11.8 percent walk rate, but with his strikeout potential, the left-hander is a must-add in most leagues, especially against the Mariners, who have the lowest team batting average against lefties and the fourth-lowest wRC+ against them so far this season.

Athletics to Promote Top Pitching Prospect Gage Jump to Major Leagues

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Athletics are promoting top left-handed pitching prospect Gage Jump to the major leagues. Currently, the southpaw is ranked as the overall No. 41 prospect in the entire sport on MLB.com. Jump was selected with the 73rd overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft out of LSU and was enjoying a dominant stretch at Triple-A Las Vegas prior to his promotion. Over his last two outings (11 frames), Jump did not allow a run while racking up 15 punchouts to just one free pass. Over his first 27 innings of the season, the southpaw posted a much higher 6.67 ERA but continued flashing elite strikeout potential, totaling 41 over this stretch. While Jump does not have much experience against the top hitting of the minor leagues, he has shown he can tally strikeouts at a dominant rate. Managers should expect Jump to slot into the starting rotation when he joins the roster, which makes him a solid pick-up in all 12+ team leagues ahead of his debut.

Gage Jump Carries Elite Strikeout Upside Among Stash Candidates

Athletics top pitching prospect Gage Jump remains one of the elite prospects to stash when looking for strikeout upside. Jump joined the Athletics with the 73rd overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, but has already moved up to Triple-A and is just one stop away from the big leagues. In 2025, Jump split his time between High-A and Double-A and totaled 131 punchouts over his first 112 1/3 professional innings. While he showed some struggles at Double-A in the second half, he carried an elite 2.32 ERA at High-A. Given his overall performance, the Athletics opted to send him to Triple-A Las Vegas to open the 2026 campaign. Through his first 31 frames, Jump has continued to rack up punchouts at an astounding rate, tallying 47. However, his modest 5.32 ERA does suggest he needs further development before he is truly in contention to reach the majors. Even though an MLB debut is unlikely in the first half, Jump possesses some of the highest strikeout potential in the minor leagues and is worth closely following. If he can improve his command and find more sustained success, he could emerge as a top stash target among pitchers later in the season.

Gage Jump Enjoying Hot Start with Triple-A

Athletics left-handed pitching prospect Gage Jump is enjoying an impressive start to the Triple-A regular season. Through his first three outings (10 1/3 innings), Jump has struck out 16 hitters while holding a 2.61 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. In his most recent outing on April 15, Jump racked up a season-high eight punchouts over a short 4 1/3 inning stint. While the Athletics have slowly increased Jump's workload in the early going, he will need to continue this trajectory to compete for an eventual MLB promotion. During the 2025 campaign, the former 73rd overall selection spent most of his time with Double-A, where he held his own, posting a 3.64 ERA, 1.20 WIHP, and an 86:29 K:BB over 81 2/3 innings. Given that the Athletics lack much depth in their rotation, Jump should be in the mix to debut later in the second half.

Gage Jump Will Head to Triple-A Las Vegas to Start 2026

Athletics pitching prospect Gage Jump will begin the season at Triple-A Las Vegas, per Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. The Athletics' third-ranked prospect made a good impression this spring, allowing just two earned runs in 9 2/3 innings of work (1.86 ERA), with a 1.24 WHIP and a 7:3 K:BB, but has yet to pitch above Double-A during the regular season. The southpaw made 20 of his 26 appearances at Double-A in 2025, posting a 3.64 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 16.8 percent K-BB% (86 strikeouts) over 81 2/3 innings pitched. With a good showing at Triple-A, the 22-year-old could be up in the big leagues by midseason, so fantasy managers in redraft leagues will want to keep an eye on his progress as the lefty could provide some reinforcement for pitching-needy staffs once the injuries to fantasy starters start to pile up. The LSU product has seen an uptick in velocity on his fastball and has a deceptive delivery, along with three secondary pitches that could produce at least a K per inning whenever he gets the call.

Gage Jump Headed to Big-League Camp

The Athletics have invited left-handed pitching prospect Gage Jump to MLB spring training. Jump was drafted by the Athletics in the 2024 MLB Draft and has quickly progressed through their system. Jump made his professional debut in 2025 with High-A Lansing but needed only 31 innings to prove he was ready to make the leap to Double-A. With High-A, the southpaw struck out 45 hitters while holding a 2.32 ERA with a 0.84 WHIP. During his first stint at Double-A, Jump would log 81 2/3 innings to the tune of a 3.64 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. Jump would tally 89 punchouts and serve up 29 free passes. Given his inconsistent play at Double-A, managers should expect him to remain at Midland to start 2026. However, if he can join Triple-A Las Vegas in the first half, he could compete for a late-season MLB debut.
