Jacob Lopez Fantastic In No-Decision

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jacob Lopez was tasked with taking the ball against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. The 26-year-old was called upon to make a spot start against one of the best offensive units in the league. Despite that, Lopez held his own as he allowed just one run on two hits over five innings in a no-decision. This is a great outing from someone asked to make an emergency start. Despite his success, Lopez is expected to head back to Triple-A Durham after this game. He has earned himself another chance to start, but fantasy managers shouldn't bother holding Lopez in redraft formats.

Jacob Lopez Set To Start On Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitching prospect Jacob Lopez is set to start Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Right-hander Shane Baz was scheduled to be on the bump this afternoon for the Rays but was scratched due to an illness. As a result, the No. 16 ranked prospect in the system is being promoted to Triple-A Durham to serve as a spot starter. Lopez has made three appearances in the major leagues this summer and held an 8.44 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP across five innings of work. At Triple-A, Lopez has carried a 3.15 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP across his past 40 innings of work with a 17:51 BB:K ratio. Lopez is best to leave off of your DFS lineup as he will face the high-powered Dodger offense.

Jacob Lopez Tallies Season-High 11 Punchouts

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitching prospect Jacob Lopez struck out a season-high 11 batters across 4 1/3 innings on Friday. He allowed no runs with just two hits and one walk. When in the minors, Lopez has typically operated as a starter, but across the 17 major-league innings he has logged, he was deployed out of the bullpen. The 26-year-old has held a rough 4.63 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 17:44 BB:K at Triple-A this season across 35 innings. He pitched five innings in the big leagues in May but struggled with an 8.44 ERA. The southpaw has flashed high potential at times, with five starts at Triple-A this season where he allowed one run or less, but he also showed inconsistency with two starts where he allowed four or more runs. Lopez should return to the major leagues later this summer but may revert back to a bullpen role.
