Jacob Lopez Goes to 15-Day Injured List

Athletics starting pitcher Jacob Lopez (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. Lopez suffered a left elbow sprain during Sunday's game. The southpaw was crushed for nine earned runs over two innings of work during that outing. Despite that, Lopez holds a quality 4.08 ERA and a 113/37 K/BB ratio across 21 games (17 starts) with the A's this season. The organization is hopeful that Lopez can return in mid-September. However, the A's season is basically over, so there is no incentive to rush Lopez back to the mound. In a corresponding move, right-hander Mason Barnett was recalled from Triple-A. It's unclear who is going to take over the vacant spot in the starting rotation.

Jacob Lopez Shut Down with Flexor Strain

Athletics starting pitcher Jacob Lopez (elbow) has been shut down from throwing after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 flexor strain and is expected to be placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. The big 27-year-old lefty went 7-7 in his 21 games this season and has an especially strong stretch after the All-Star break. Lopez went 4-0 in a five-start stretch with 36 strikeouts in 30 innings along with a 0.60 ERA and 2.28 FIP. That run came to a screeching halt on Sunday, when the Mariners scored nine runs against him in two innings, and he left with forearm tightness. Manager Mark Kotsay said he's hopeful Lopez could still return before the end of the season, even if it's just a few innings out of the bullpen, but flexor strains can sometimes be a forerunner of more serious elbow injuries. Lopez showed lots of promise, so hopefully this issue isn't something that derails his career. At this point, Lopez is safe to drop in re-draft leagues since he is unlikely to make significant contributions for the rest of 2025.

Jacob Lopez Experiencing Forearm Tightness

Athletics starting pitcher Jacob Lopez (forearm) got lit up for nine runs in two innings in Sunday's 11-4 loss to the Mariners, and it was later revealed that he was dealing with left forearm tightness, reports Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. The issue apparently dates back to his previous start on Tuesday, where he also experienced soreness following the game. Forearm soreness is a scary thing to hear when discussing starting pitchers, as it's usually the precursor to Tommy John, although Lopez said this feels different than when he needed the surgery previously in his career. Expect updates on the severity of the injury to be released in the upcoming days, but any type of injured list stint could potentially jeopardize the rest of 2025 for the youngster.

Jacob Lopez Shuts Down the Nats, Fans 10 in Fifth Win

Athletics left-hander Jacob Lopez was at the top of his game in the team's 6-0 shutout win over the hosting Washington Nationals on Thursday in a matinee game in D.C. Lopez didn't allow a run in 7 2/3 innings while allowing only three hits, walking none and striking out a season-high 10 batters. The 27-year-old southpaw has been up and down in his first year with the A's, but he's been downright fantastic of late, throwing 17 straight scoreless innings in his last three starts. Before that, though, Lopez had an ERA over 7.00. With the dominant outing on Thursday against Washington, Lopez has his season ERA down to 3.59 on the year in 18 appearances (14 starts) while striking out 94 and walking 30 in 77 2/3 innings pitched. For the strikeout upside alone, he's worth starting again in deeper leagues his next time out, which is scheduled to come against the Rays.

Jacob Lopez Tosses Seven Shutout Innings

Athletics starting pitcher Jacob Lopez threw seven scoreless innings against the Tigers on Wednesday to earn his second win of the season. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out six. This is his fourth straight outing of allowing one earned run or less, with three being scoreless appearances. In that span, the 27-year-old has struck out 29 batters in 23 innings. The lefty has made seven starts this season and has certainly made the case to stay in the rotation for the foreseeable future. He'll carry a 3.56 ERA and a 28.9% strikeout rate into his next start, currently lined up to be against the Rays.

Jacob Lopez Picks Up First Win of Season

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Jacob Lopez was fantastic on Saturday, tossing six shutout innings in a 4-0 win over the Kansas City Royals. Lopez authored his best start of the season in this one, allowing just three hits and walking one while striking out nine. The 27-year-old has been very up and down since moving to the starting rotation in May, but he now has two starts in a row where he hasn't allowed an earned run. His season numbers are a little lacking, as he is 1-4 with a 4.80 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Lopez has shown the ability to miss bats, though, with 40 punchouts in just 30 IP. His next start is currently scheduled for Thursday against the Houston Astros, but J.T. Ginn could return from the IL before then, which could force Lopez into a long-relief role.

Jacob Lopez Recalled From Triple-A

The Athletics have recalled left-handed pitcher Jacob Lopez from Triple-A Las Vegas. In a corresponding move, the Athletics have optioned right-handed pitcher Jason Alexander to Las Vegas. Lopez has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign with Triple-A Las Vegas and is being rewarded with a promotion to the big leagues. Across 14 2/3 innings of work, the southpaw has held a strong 2.45 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP. He struck out 22 batters while serving up just five walks. The 27-year-old has only made two brief appearances in the major leagues during the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. Across 22 2/3 career frames, Lopez has posted a 4.76 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP. Fantasy managers should expect Lopez to operate out of the bullpen, but he could be given opportunities to earn starts in the rotation.

Jacob Lopez Fantastic In No-Decision

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jacob Lopez was tasked with taking the ball against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. The 26-year-old was called upon to make a spot start against one of the best offensive units in the league. Despite that, Lopez held his own as he allowed just one run on two hits over five innings in a no-decision. This is a great outing from someone asked to make an emergency start. Despite his success, Lopez is expected to head back to Triple-A Durham after this game. He has earned himself another chance to start, but fantasy managers shouldn't bother holding Lopez in redraft formats.

Jacob Lopez Set To Start On Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitching prospect Jacob Lopez is set to start Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Right-hander Shane Baz was scheduled to be on the bump this afternoon for the Rays but was scratched due to an illness. As a result, the No. 16 ranked prospect in the system is being promoted to Triple-A Durham to serve as a spot starter. Lopez has made three appearances in the major leagues this summer and held an 8.44 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP across five innings of work. At Triple-A, Lopez has carried a 3.15 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP across his past 40 innings of work with a 17:51 BB:K ratio. Lopez is best to leave off of your DFS lineup as he will face the high-powered Dodger offense.

Jacob Lopez Tallies Season-High 11 Punchouts

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitching prospect Jacob Lopez struck out a season-high 11 batters across 4 1/3 innings on Friday. He allowed no runs with just two hits and one walk. When in the minors, Lopez has typically operated as a starter, but across the 17 major-league innings he has logged, he was deployed out of the bullpen. The 26-year-old has held a rough 4.63 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 17:44 BB:K at Triple-A this season across 35 innings. He pitched five innings in the big leagues in May but struggled with an 8.44 ERA. The southpaw has flashed high potential at times, with five starts at Triple-A this season where he allowed one run or less, but he also showed inconsistency with two starts where he allowed four or more runs. Lopez should return to the major leagues later this summer but may revert back to a bullpen role.
