Justin Sterner Rejoins Major-League Roster

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Justin Sterner is set to rejoin the major league roster to fill in the empty roster spot that was left by pitcher Aaron Civale, who was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. Sterner will be deployed out of the bullpen, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Sterner posted a 3.73 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and an 11:40 BB:K ratio in 31 frames at Triple-A Durham this season. The 27-year-old got his first taste of major league ball earlier this season, where he logged four innings of relief to the tune of a 2.25 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. However, his underlying metrics suggest he got a bit unlucky with a 1.16 xERA. The right-hander could be worth paying attention to in deeper holds leagues as several members of the Tampa bullpen, such as Colin Poche and Shawn Armstrong, have struggled during the first half of the season. If he performs well, he could earn several opportunities in high-leverage situations.
