Carlos Cortes Still Worth Rostering Despite Recent Cold Stretch?

Athletics outfielder Carlos Cortes is hitting .316 (75-for-237) in his first 91 major-league games since debuting with the A's in 2025. In 49 games so far in 2026 in his first full year in the Show, he has hit .322/.406/.503 with a .910 OPS, five home runs, nine doubles, a triple, 17 RBI, 15 runs scored, and a stolen base across 165 plate appearances. It has helped that the A's have shielded him from left-handed pitchers, but in his 10 at-bats against southpaws, he has five hits (two doubles). The 28-year-old left-handed hitter has proven that he can hit for average so far in the big leagues, even if he doesn't have a ton of power. Cortes has slowed down a bit in recent games, going 3-for-20 with a double, two runs, three walks, and two strikeouts in his last seven contests. Under the hood, Cortes ranks in just the 51st percentile in hard-hit rate, but his expected batting average of .310 is the fourth-highest among qualified hitters, suggesting that he should be rostered in more than 12% of Yahoo leagues.

Carlos Cortes Earning More Playing Time, Emerging as a Priority Waiver-Wire Target

Athletics outfielder Carlos Cortes is off to an excellent start to the 2026 season, hitting .355/.408/.570 with four home runs, 15 RBI, 11 runs scored, and one stolen base across his first 103 plate appearances of the season. Entering play on Sunday, Cortes owned an 11.1% barrel rate and had walked (eight) nearly as many times as he had struck out (nine). The 28-year-old is a bit of a late bloomer, but he posted similarly strong numbers (.866 OPS) across 99 plate appearances after making his MLB debut in 2025. The lefty-swinging Cortes appears to have worked his way into an everyday role in the corner outfield for the Athletics, at least against right-handed starting pitching. Particularly given his hitter-friendly home park in Sacramento, Cortes profiles as a viable hitting streamer for fantasy managers to target on the waiver wire.

Carlos Cortes is Quickly Gaining Traction

Athletics outfielder Carlos Cortes has quickly gained fantasy value with his red-hot start to the season. Over the last two weeks, Cortes is 20-for-40 at the plate with three home runs and seven RBI. During that span, Cortes was just shy of top-30 value, which is quite impressive. The only downside is that Cortes is likely going to continue being a platoon bat going forward. That means he'll basically only start against right-handed pitching. Despite that, Cortes is still worth rostering in at least deep leagues at the moment. He brings enough upside with the bat to outweigh the fact that he's strictly a platoon bat.

Carlos Cortes Named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week

Athletics outfield prospect Carlos Cortes was named Pacific Coast League (PCL) Player of the Week after going 14-for-23 (.609) last week, including three doubles and four home runs, as well as 13 RBI, seven runs scored, and a 3:4 BB:K for Triple-A Las Vegas. The 28-year-old has yet to make a major league debut; however, this latest hot stretch has pushed his season-long slash line to .313/.404/.605 with 14 home runs and the second-best OPS in the PCL (1.010). The A's have brought up Nick Kurtz and Colby Thomas already this season, and with a glut of talent in the outfield, there likely isn't a need for a left-handed hitting bat in the lineup, but a major league debut before the season is out seems likely.
