Brian Serven Outrighted To Triple-A

The Toronto Blue Jays outrighted catcher Brian Serven to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday after he cleared waivers. Serven, a former fifth-round pick by the Colorado Rockies out of Arizona State, played in only 11 games with the Rockies in 2023, going 3-for-23 (.130) with a double and an RBI. The Blue Jays claimed him off waivers from Colorado earlier this month, but he will stay with Toronto for now. The 28-year-old backstop played in 62 games in his rookie season in 2022 with the Rockies and went 38-for-187 (.203) with six home runs and 16 RBI in 205 plate appearances. Serven will begin the 2024 campaign with Buffalo and will provide catching depth behind Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk at the major-league level.

Blue Jays Claim Brian Serven Off Waivers From Cubs

The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Tuesday that they claimed catcher Brian Serven off waivers from the Chicago Cubs. Serven is being passed around on waivers after the Cubs previously claimed him from the Colorado Rockies. The 28-year-old backstop played in just 11 games for the Rockies in 2023, going 3-for-23 (.130) with an RBI and a double in 23 plate appearances. He made his big-league debut in 2022 with Colorado and went 38-for-187 (.203) with six homers and 16 RBI in 62 games played. Serven will almost certainly begin the 2024 campaign in the minors for Toronto with Triple-A Buffalo as organizational catching depth behind Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk at the major-league level.

Brian Serven Out Again Friday

Colorado Rockies rookie catcher Brian Serven is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Minnesota Twins. It will be the third straight game that Serven starts on the bench in favor of Elias Diaz. Serven has been solid for the Rockies while splitting time with Diaz behind the plate, as he's hitting .295/.358/.492 with an .850 OPS, three home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored in 61 at-bats over his first 20 major league games. Diaz is hitting ninth against Twins right-hander Dylan Bundy on Friday. He's hitting just .223 with four home runs and 18 RBI on the season, but he's gong 8-for-21 (.381) with two homers and eight RBI in seven games in the last two weeks.

Brian Serven Slugs Two Dingers

Colorado Rockies catcher Brian Serven cranked his first two homers of his major-league career on Saturday night as his club defeated the Mets 11-3. It was just his second career start behind the dish in game two of a doubleheader as he hit a pair of two-run bombs, finishing the game going 2-for-4 with four RBI. The 27-year-old was called up earlier in the week to serve as the backup catcher to Elias Diaz after he hit .273/.406/.507 with five home runs at Triple-A. Although there is excitement surrounding his performance in this contest, Serven should only be considered as a fantasy option in deep NL-only formats for the time being.
