Jeff McNeil News
The New York Mets and National League batting champion Jeff McNeil agreed to a four-year, $50 million contract extension on Friday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The contract includes a fifth-year team option that could take the total value of the deal to $63.75 million. Not only can McNeil hit, but he can also play second base, third base and the outfield, giving the Mets positional flexibility. The 30-year-old slashed .326/.382/.454 with an .836 OPS, nine home runs, 62 RBI, 73 runs scored and four stolen bases in a career-high 589 plate appearances and 148 games to earn his second career All-Star bid in 2022. McNeil won't supply fantasy managers with much power -- only one season with 20-plus homers -- but he's an excellent source of average, contact and on-base percentage in one of the best lineups in baseball.
New York Mets infielder Jeff McNeil is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday for the regular season finale against the Washington Nationals. The Mets have nothing to play for in Game 162 on Wednesday after the Atlanta Braves clinched the National League East title on Tuesday, so the Mets will rest the likely NL batting champ before their wild-card series begins on Friday against the San Diego Padres. McNeil will finish the 2022 regular season with a .326/.382/.454 slash line with an .836 OPS, nine home runs, 62 RBI, 73 runs scored and four stolen bases in 147 games in his second career All-Star season. Tyler Naquin is starting in right field and hitting leadoff, while Luis Guillorme is at the keystone and batting sixth against Nationals right-hander Erick Fedde in the regular season finale.
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil is back in the lineup on Saturday after exiting Friday's game with a right thumb laceration. He'll bat eighth against the Philadelphia Phillies. McNeil has put together a strong line in his age-30 season, slashing .306/.360/.446 with seven homers, 46 RBI, 24 walks, and 49 strikeouts. Most of his production has come against righties, so he should fare well against Aaron Nola on Saturday. McNeil deserves to be rostered in most fantasy leagues down the stretch.

New York Mets second baseman and outfielder Jeff McNeil looks poised for yet another strong season at the plate for both the National League East club and fantasy managers. The veteran is coming off one of his most productive seasons in the Majors, hitting .326 with a .382 on-base percentage, nine home runs, and four stolen bases in a career-high 589 plate appearances. McNeil didn't register much in the way of barrels or hard-hit balls, but he was elite at putting the ball in play, finishing in the 91st percentile or better league-wide in whiff rate (15.9%, 91st), xBA (.280, 94th) and strikeout rate (10.4%, 99th). It marked the fourth time in the last five years that McNeil has finished with an xBA over the .273 mark, giving him a quality fantasy floor where batting average is concerned. He'll once again play a key role in a strong lineup that will also feature the likes of Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Eduardo Escobar, Starling Marte, Brandon Nimmo, and Mark Canha, as well as promising prospects Brett Baty and Francisco Alvarez. McNeil saw most of his plate appearances hitting third, fifth, and sixth last year. If that trend continues, he'll also have quality RBI and run-scoring upside as well.
