Jon Gray to Miss Rest of the Season

The Texas Rangers are moving right-hander Jon Gray (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Friday, which will officially end his 2025 season, according to Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. Gray initially went on the shelf in the middle of August with a right-shoulder injury, and we won't see him again until 2026. It was yet another disappointing campaign in 2025 in the 33-year-old veteran's fourth year in Texas, as he only appeared in six games (all in relief) while allowing 12 earned runs on 15 hits (five homers) with 12 strikeouts and six walks in 14 innings pitched. Gray just has not lived up to expectations in his time with the Rangers after spending the first seven years of his MLB career with the Colorado Rockies. After his injury-plagued 2025 campaign, fantasy managers will be avoiding him in mixed leagues next year.

Jon Gray Could Pitch Again in 2025

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray (shoulder) appeared in only six games for the team this season after recovering from a broken wrist. He struggled to a 7.71 ERA and 7.33 FIP in 14 innings before landing on the injured list on August 17 with right shoulder nerve irritation. The team was concerned that his symptoms were consistent with thoracic outlet syndrome, which could require surgery. However, President of baseball operations Chris Young gave a good report and said, "Our hope is that whatever it is, it's minor and, after 15 days, he'll be ready. But we still have some diagnostics to get through before we have a clear idea on the prognosis." Gray is still uncertain and not a fantasy option at this point in any format. However, the last chapter of his 2025 season isn't closed just yet.

Jon Gray Placed on 15-Day Injured List

The Texas Rangers announced that they have placed right-hander Jon Gray (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list. Gray is going on the shelf with thoracic outlet syndrome, manager Bruce Bochy revealed. It's an ominous injury that continues a brutal season for Gray. The 33-year-old suffered a fractured forearm in spring training and didn't make his debut until July 23. Since then, opposing offenses have crushed Gray in six appearances out of the bullpen. He has logged a 7.71 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB across 14 innings. It was reported on Saturday that Gray went through waivers unclaimed and would remain with Texas. Now, in light of this injury, it wouldn't be a surprise if he's done for the year.

Jon Gray to Stay With Rangers After Going Unclaimed on Waivers

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray will remain with the team after going unclaimed on waivers, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports. Gray has about $3 million in salary left on his four-year, $56 million contract, but no team wanted to take a chance on him at that price tag. That isn't surprising, as the 33-year-old has posted dismal results since he made his season debut on July 23. After missing the first three-plus months of the year with a fractured forearm, the longtime starter has made six appearances out of the bullpen and recorded a 7.71 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP, 12 strikeouts, and six walks in 14 innings. Gray pitched in the Rangers' 14-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday and struggled again, giving up four earned runs on four hits, including two homers, with three strikeouts against three walks over 2 1/3 frames.

Rangers Activate Jon Gray

The Texas Rangers activated right-hander Jon Gray (forearm) from the injured list on Wednesday, according to MLB.com's Kennedi Landry. Gray will return to the big-league roster this week after allowing a run with two walks and five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings and 61 pitches in his final minor-league rehab outing for Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. The 33-year-old veteran threw 37 of his 61 pitches for strikes in what was his third rehab appearance. Gray should return to Texas' starting rotation, but it's unclear when he might make his first start of the season. And when he does debut in 2025, fantasy managers would be wise to stay away, as Texas figures to ease the veteran righty back into the fold. He hasn't been as dominant as many people thought with the move from Colorado to Texas, posting a 4.16 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 362:121 K:BB in his 76 outings (72 starts) in his three years with the Rangers.

Jon Gray Strong in Rehab Start

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (forearm) pitched well for Triple-A Round Rock Saturday in what could go down as his final rehab start. Gray threw 3 2/3 innings of one-run, three-hit ball with five strikeouts against two walks over 61 pitches. The 33-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors this season after suffering a forearm fracture during the spring, but he could rejoin the Rangers in the coming days. Gray has worked almost exclusively out of the rotation in his career, having amassed 223 starts in 228 appearances, but it's unclear how the Rangers will use him when he returns. He spent some time in relief last year (19 starts in 23 appearances) and posted a 4.47 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP, 86 strikeouts, and 28 walks in 102 2/3 innings.

Jon Gray Could Rejoin Rangers After Next Rehab Start

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (forearm) is expected to make one more rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday before returning to the majors late next week. It's not yet clear whether the Rangers will use Gray as a starter or reliever when he comes back. The 33-year-old has missed the entire season to this point after suffering a fractured forearm in spring training. Gray made 19 starts in 23 appearances last season and pitched to a 4.47 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP and 86:28 K:BB in 102 2/3 innings. While Gray has totaled just five career relief appearances out of 228, the Rangers could stick with their current rotation and ease him back into the mix via the bullpen. Gray has only combined for five frames in two rehab outings, so he may not be ready for a traditional starter's workload yet.

Jon Gray Goes Three Innings in Rehab Start

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (forearm) allowed an earned run on six hits while walking none and striking out two in three innings on Monday in a minor-league rehab start in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. A rainout over the weekend forced the 33-year-old to skip making his second rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock. He should head to Round Rock after this outing, and he's expected to make at least a couple more rehab starts before the Rangers consider activating him from the 60-day injured list. Gray has yet to pitch in the big leagues in 2025 due to a fractured forearm that he suffered in spring training on March 14. He also missed some time in 2024 with groin and foot injuries and finished with a disappointing 4.47 ERA and 1.31 WHIP while striking out 86 and walking 28 in 23 outings (19 starts). After his strikeout rate dipped below 20% last year, fantasy managers will want to see more.

Jon Gray to Make Next Rehab Start Sunday

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (wrist) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, manager Bruce Bochy announced. Gray made his first start Wednesday and threw two innings of one-run ball over 32 pitches. He'll build on that total next time out as he continues working back from the fractured wrist that he suffered in spring training. From 2022-24, his first three years with the Rangers, Gray amassed 72 starts in 76 appearances and pitched to a 4.16 ERA with 8.41 K/9 and 2.81 BB/9 across 387 1/3 innings. He'll be an option for the Rangers' rotation in the second half of the season.

Jon Gray Starts Rehab Assignment on Wednesday

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray (wrist) took a huge step in his road to recovery on Wednesday night, pitching two innings for the Round Rock Express. He gave up a home run to Sam Hilliard but didn't allow any other hits while picking up one strikeout and throwing 32 pitches, 20 of which were strikes. Gray has been sidelined all season after fracturing his wrist on a comebacker in Spring Training, but he is now ramping up and should be ready to join the Rangers' rotation after the All-Star break at the end of July or early in August. If you are in deep leagues or need rotation depth, Gray is an option to monitor as he continues his recovery.
