One of the White Sox top pitching prospects, Stiever possesses one of the best curveballs in the minor leagues. With Michael Kopech starting Sunday and unlikely to go many innings, there is a good chance that Steiver could see some action. Stiever is more of a name to remember for the future and should be avoided in redraft leagues. Infielder Danny Mendick has been sent to the teams alternative training site to make room for Steiver.

The Chicago White Sox have promoted starting pitcher Jonathan Stiever as their 27th man for Sunday's doubleheader versus the Boston Red Sox. Stiever throws a nasty curveball and could be an option to start Game 2 on Sunday. The right-hander struggled in two starts with the Pale Hose in 2020 and allowed seven runs in 6 1/3 innings with four walks and three strikeouts. The good news is that he owns a career 3.95 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP to go along with 10 K/9 between two minor league seasons in rookie ball and Single-A. The White Sox have not announced their Game 2 starter, but Stiever can be avoided even if he does draw the start.

He struggled over his two starts in 2020, going 0-1 with a 9.95 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. He had a strong 2019 season, split between Low-A and High-A. He posted a 3.48 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 26 starts and 145 innings while averaging 9.6 K/9. He's a long shot to make the team's starting rotation to open the year. He will probably begin the year in the minors, but could see some spot starts if the team suffers any injuries or if any of their initial starters struggle.
