First baseman Justin Bour officially announced his retirement from professional baseball on his Twitter account on Friday. "There comes a time in every players career when they know it's time to hang them up. Today is that day for me. Thank you baseball and everyone that helped me along the way," Bour wrote. The 34-year-old left-handed slugger made his MLB debut in 2014 with the Miami Marlins and spent five years with them. He also saw short stints with the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Angels, but he hadn't played in the big leagues since 2019 with the Angels. Bour's best year came in 2017 with Miami, when he hit .289 with a career-high 25 home runs and 83 RBI in 108 games. He finishes his six-year career with a .253/.337/.457 slash line, .794 OPS, 92 home runs, 303 RBI and 206 runs scored in 559 games played.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Justin Bour has been optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake. Bour is hitting just .183 with eight home runs in 45 games after hitting .292 last year. The move clears a roster spot for reliever Luke Bard. Bour will probably be back in the Majors at some point this season, but at this point it's hard to see him earning everyday playing time again and is a fantasy afterthought. Matt Thaiss should see more time at first base. He'll bat eighth tonight against Astros righty Garrett Cole.
Justin Bour Has Four Home Runs In Last Seven Games
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Justin Bour homered twice and drove in four runs as the Angels beat the Reds 5-1 on Wednesday. Bour was recalled from Triple-A on June 11 and has made this second chance count. Over his last seven games, Bour has six extra-base hits (two doubles, four home runs) with nine runs batted in while posting a .304 batting average. This development does not mean fantasy owners need to rush to add Bour however. He will still have to compete for at-bats with Albert Pujols, Shohei Ohtani and occasionally Justin Upton at the DH spot. Bour's status should be lightly monitored as he is in line for more playing time this week.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Justin Bour has made positive contributions since being recalled from Triple-A. In six games (four starts) since the call up, Bour has two doubles, two home runs and five runs batted in. The Angels already have Albert Pujols and Shohei Ohtani in the mix at first base/DH in addition to teammate Justin Upton in line for DH starts as he recovers from a knee injury. This leaves little room for Bour to get regular playing time but is chipping in when given the chance.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Justin Bour hit his sixth home run of the season in the Angels 5-3 win over the Rays. Bour's season got off to a rough start, hitting .163 through his first 98 at-bats, leading to a demotion to Triple-A. But the veteran slugger was recalled on June 11 and has homered in each of his first two starts. The good news is that Bour appears to have ironed out the kinks in the minor leagues. The bad news is that he will continue to split time at first base with Albert Pujols and will need sustained success before he is even a glimmer on the fantasy radar.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Justin Bour was recalled from Triple-A and immediately made a great return impression by smacking a three-run home run on Tuesday. Prospect Jared Walsh was optioned to the minors to make room for Bour as the team hopes that his struggles are behind him. The 31-year-old was slashing .163/.268/.316 when he was sent down but responded by hitting .292 with one triple, five home runs and six doubles through 85 minor league at-bats. The veteran also walked more than he struck out (13 walks/11 K's) and it appears something clicked for him after the demotion. It is way too early to think that Bour can help a fantasy roster right now but his promotion should steal at-bats from Albert Pujols at first base and Shohei Ohtani occasionally at the DH spot.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Justin Bour hit a pinch-hit home run in the ninth inning of the Angels 13-0 win over the Tigers. Bour signed with the Angels in the offseason to bring a veteran presence in the middle of the lineup that could drive in runs. But Bour has gotten off to an awful start and now has only seen 10 plate appearances in the month of May. With the return of Shohei Ohtani into the fold, Bour will have to fight even harder for at-bats with teammate Albert Pujols. Bour is only two years removed from hitting 25 home runs and driving in 83 runs but currently has zero fantasy value.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Justin Bour hit his third home run of the season in the Angels 7-3 win over the Royals on Sunday. It has been a miserable start to his Angels career, slashing .179/.272/.333 through 78 at-bats to begin the season. Bour is only two seasons removed from driving in 83 runs and posting a .536 slugging percentage but thus far has been a non-factor for the Angels. There still is plenty of time to turn it around but does not deserve fantasy consideration until he can put several weeks together of productive offense.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Justin Bour will once again be on the bench when the team takes on the Rangers on Tuesday night. Bour will sit for the second straight game with Rangers left-hander Mike Minor expected to start. Adding to the mix is Mike Trout serving as designated hitter while he nurses a groin injury. It is unclear when Trout will be able to play the field, but expect Bour's playing time to be reduced until that happens. Albert Pujols has gotten the start at first base the past two days despite Bour looking better at the dish as of late. In his past five starts, Bour is 6-for-18 (.333) with one double, one home run and four runs batted in. Bour lacks fantasy appeal in most formats, but owners who have him rostered should expect a reduction in at-bats until Trout is healthy enough to play the field.
Los Angeles Angels first baseman Justin Bour hit his first home run of the season on Monday, only the second extra-base hit of the season for the newly acquired slugger. Bour has stumbled out of the gate to begin the season, with only four hits in his first 32 at-bats. The Angels are counting on Bour to bring the type of production that he posted in 2017 when he hit 25 home runs and drove in 83 runs with a slugging percentage of .536. The veteran isn't the only one struggling in the Angels offense right now, and perhaps hitting his first home run could lead to better offensive performances moving forward. For the time being, however, Bour should not be in fantasy lineups.
