Reid Detmers a Worthy Waiver-Wire Add With Strikeout Upside

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers has had a promising yet inconsistent start to the season, allowing a combined eight runs in two starts but just one earned run combined in the other two starts, including a nine-strikeout performance against the Yankees in his latest turn through the rotation. It has produced an acceptable 3.57 ERA (3.40 xFIP) with a 1.06 WHIP and a strong 21.3 percent K-BB%. A solid ERA and WHIP with strikeout upside is exactly what fantasy managers were hoping for after the southpaw finished last season with a 2.19 ERA (2.77 SIERA), 1.11 WHIP, and a 23.9 percent K-BB% from May 9 through the end of the campaign (49 appearances, 49 1/3 innings pitched). Those innings were in relief, though, so it was interesting to see if it would carry over to his role as a starter this season, and it appears to have continued. As a starter back in 2022, the former first-rounder threw a no-hitter, so the talent has always been there; he just needed to find it again. The 26-year-old will have his work cut out for him in his next start, a home date with Toronto on Monday, a team that owns the eighth-best batting average against lefties this year (.262). But for interested season-long managers, he's still available in nearly half of Yahoo! leagues.

Kirby Yates Starts Rehab Assignment on Friday

Los Angeles Angels right-handed reliever Kirby Yates (knee) began his minor-league rehab assignment on Friday with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and allowed an earned run on one hit while walking one and striking out two in his inning of work with the Quakes. Yates, who began the year on the 15-day injured list with left-knee inflammation, is nearing his 2026 season debut and could be thrown right into the mix for save chances with right-hander Jordan Romano blowing back-to-back save opportunities against the New York Yankees in the Bronx earlier this week. Fantasy managers should consider picking up the 39-year-old veteran with his return potentially coming next week. Yates had a rough year with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025, but he had 33 saves for the Texas Rangers in 2024, and he's racked up 98 saves over the course of his 11-year MLB career. At the very least, Yates could be a sleeper in holds leagues as a late-inning setup man for the Halos in 2026.

Jorge Soler  • RF  •  Angels

Jorge Soler is a Top Option for Power

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jorge Soler is off to a strong start to the season in the power department. Through 18 games, Soler is slashing .231/.342/.508 with five home runs and a league-leading 18 RBI. The All-Star slugger is currently serving a four-game suspension, but will be back in the mix soon. With that being said, now might be the best time to grab Soler before he returns to the field and continues tearing the cover off the ball. The veteran slugger isn't going to hit for average, and he's going to strike out a ton. The 34-year-old has crushed over 200 career homers and is looking like a sneaky add for fantasy managers seeking power right now.

Drew Pomeranz Seeing Value Increase in Angels Bullpen

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Drew Pomeranz is seeing his fantasy value increase as the Angels figure out how to deploy their bullpen pieces. Jordan Romano began the season as the Angels closer, but an 8.44 ERA and two blown saves quickly led manager Kurt Suzuki to be noncommittal at best when asked about his closer role. Kirby Yates (knee) and Ben Joyce (shoulder) are expected to rejoin the Angels bullpen at some point in the next few weeks, but for now, Pomeranz looks like he could start seeing even higher leverage innings. He's pitched eight innings this season and his five holds put him just two behind the league lead. Chase Silseth and Pomeranz would likely form a lefty/righty closer committee if the Angels officially remove Romano from the role. Pomeranz is currently rostered in only 4% of Yahoo Fantasy leagues. He can be immediately added in holds leagues, and managers in saves formats should keep an eye on how the Angels use their relievers this weekend against the Padres.

Oswald Peraza Stays Hot in Victory, Tallies Three RBI

Los Angeles Angels infielder Oswald Peraza was doing a little bit of everything during Thursday's game against the New York Yankees. Peraza got revenge on his former club with a two-run home run during Thursday's blowout win. He went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a homer, three RBI, one walk, and a stolen base in the 11-4 victory. Peraza probably doesn't have an everyday role, but is taking advantage of the extra at-bats with Jorge Soler suspended right now. He's 5-for-10 with two homers, four RBI, and three walks over the last three games. Peraza could be a short-term spark plug for fantasy managers looking for help right now.

Mike Trout  • CF  •  Angels

Mike Trout Hits Five Homers in Series Versus Yankees

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout has been looking like his former MVP self this week in the Bronx during a four-game series against the New York Yankees. Trout finished Thursday's 11-4 victory by going 1-for-2 with a solo home run, three runs scored, and three walks. The 34-year-old former 11-time All-Star and three-time MVP finished the four-game series against the Yanks with five total home runs, which is the first time any opposing player has hit five home runs in a series against the Yankees. After another big game on Thursday, Trout is now hitting .246 on the year with a 1.010 OPS, seven home runs, 16 RBI, two stolen bases, a league-high 21 runs scored, 18 walks, and 18 strikeouts in 19 games played in his 16th year in the majors. Trout has had trouble staying healthy in recent years, but he's fully healthy now, and he's rewarding his fantasy managers with plenty of production across the board. If the future Hall of Famer can stay on the field all year, he'll end up being an absolute steal in fantasy and a potential league-winner.

Chase Silseth  • RP  •  Angels

Chase Silseth Next Up for Saves in Anaheim?

If Los Angeles Angels manager Kurt Suzuki opts to go with someone else at closer after right-hander Jordan Romano blew two saves in New York against the Yankees this week, The Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher suggests that right-hander Chase Silseth might be the next man up. Silseth has a 2.84 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with six walks and eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 relief innings for the Halos this year in his nine outings. Right-handers Kirby Yates (knee) and Ben Joyce (shoulder) remain on the injured list and have yet to make their season debuts, so the Angels don't exactly have many great options beyond Romano, who is a two-time All-Star with 117 career saves in seven-plus MLB seasons. While Silseth has fared well early on in 2026, he holds a 5.53 FIP and has never recorded a save in his four-plus MLB campaigns. Silseth also has three holds, and he should only be a consideration for a waiver-wire pickup in deeper fantasy leagues for managers desperate in the saves column. Veteran lefty Drew Pomeranz has five holds this year and 10 career saves in 12-plus years in the big leagues, and he could get a shot as well in save situations if Romano loses the job.

Zach Neto  • SS  •  Angels

Zach Neto Showcasing Improved Walk Rate to Start 2026

Across his first 90 plate appearances of the 2026 season, Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto is hitting .240/.367/.493 with five home runs, nine RBI, 17 runs scored, and one stolen base. The 25-year-old has not been especially aggressive on the base paths so far this season, but Neto has a track record as a speed asset with 56 stolen bases over the past two seasons combined. Elsewhere in his profile, Neto looks to be on track to provide strong fantasy production. His 12% barrel rate supports his strong power output, and his 15.6% walk rate at the top of the Angels lineup should allow him to continue racking up runs scored. While Neto's 27.8% strikeout rate limits his batting average upside, he makes enough hard contact to avoid crushing fantasy managers in the category. As long as he stays healthy, Neto appears poised to be a high-end fantasy shortstop in 2026.

Jordan Romano  • RP  •  Angels

Kurt Suzuki Non-Committal on Jordan Romano as the Closer Going Forward

The Los Angeles Angels could shake things up with the closer's role going forward after right-handed reliever Jordan Romano has blown saves against the New York Yankees in two of the last three games, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. When asked about the closer's role in the wake of Romano's recent struggles, manager Kurt Suzuki said, "Obviously, with Jordan the last couple days, tough outings, but there's no panic," Suzuki said. "He's been so good for us to start the year, and he had two rough outings. You look at it, and you say you could be reactionary or you could just keep going. We started the year with Jordan as our closer, and we'll see how it goes. Right now, he's still going to be in those high-leverage spots, and you know, if the opportunity comes for him to close, we'll see what we've got." It remains to be seen what the Angels do for their next save chance, but if Suzuki does opt to go away from Romano, it could be Chase Silseth with the next opportunity. He has a 2.84 ERA in his first nine games in 2026 and has experience closing in the minors. Kirby Yates (knee) and Ben Joyce (shoulder) are still on the injured list.

Drew Pomeranz  • RP  •  Angels

Drew Pomeranz Emerging as Priority Closer Handcuff

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Drew Pomeranz is a very intriguing speculative pickup in deep leagues, since he could be next up for the Angels after Jordan Romano has blown two save chances in New York. Pomeranz has allowed four runs on six hits in eight games this season, but he has only allowed one run in six innings over his last six appearances. He has four holds in those six games, but has not been brought into a save opportunity. Pomeranz retired four in a row before giving the ball to Romano for the ninth inning, and since that went so poorly, the Angels could be forced to shake up the roles for the end of the game in their high-leverage situations even before Kirby Yates (knee) joins the mix later this season.

Jordan Romano Blows Second Save, Seeing Fantasy Value Plummet

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Jordan Romano let another game slip away in New York on Wednesday night. He came on in the ninth inning with a one-run lead and gave up two runs on two hits and a walk, while recording just one out. Romano gave up a walk-off double to Jose Caballero, taking his second blown save of the three-game series against the Yankees. Before the double, though, Romano's defense let him down when a routine pop-up dropped between Zach Neto and Oswald Peraza to start the meltdown. The 32-year-old had been perfect in four save opportunities before this series, and it will be interesting to see if he gets another chance or if the team goes another direction. Kirby Yates (knee) is nearing a return and could be part of the solution if Romano continues to struggle.

Jorge Soler  • RF  •  Angels

Jorge Soler's Suspension Reduced to Four Games

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jorge Soler's suspension by Major League Baseball has been reduced to four games, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Soler will start serving his four-game suspension on Wednesday night against the Atlanta Braves, and it will run through Sunday's series finale against the San Diego Padres. The league initially gave Soler a seven-game suspension for his role in a fight when the team faced the Braves last week. Fantasy managers must make sure to remove Soler from their lineups for the rest of the week. Through his first 65 at-bats with the Angels in 2026, Soler is hitting .231 (15-for-65) with five home runs, a league-high 18 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 18 games played. The 34-year-old Cuban slugger will probably never help fantasy managers in batting average, but his power remains intriguing when he's clicking.

Mike Trout's Two Homers, Five RBI Not Enough at Yankee Stadium

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout did all he could for the team in Monday night's series opener against the New York Yankees, but it wasn't enough in the wild 11-10 loss. Trout went 2-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, five RBI, and three runs scored. The 34-year-old future Hall of Famer did all of his damage late in the game, first hitting a three-run long ball in the sixth inning. The home runs were Trout's first since he went deep in each of the first two games of the 2026 season. It was the 31st multi-homer game of Trout's illustrious career. The three-time MVP and 11-time All-Star got off to a hot start this year before going into a little lull, but hopefully, Trout will get going again after Monday's strong performance. Overall, he's hitting .224 (13-for-58) with four home runs, 12 RBI, 16 runs scored, and two stolen bases in a small sample size of 16 games. Trout has had trouble staying on the field in recent years due to various injuries, and he probably can't be relied on for a high average anymore. But if he stays healthy, he'll be a steal in fantasy for his power and run production.

Is Kirby Yates a High-Upside Stash Candidate?

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Kirby Yates (knee) is working his way back from left knee inflammation and could be ready to step into a meaningful role in the bullpen soon. He threw to hitters last week but has not yet started a rehab assignment. He seems ready to start his rehab soon and could be set for his Halos' debut soon. Over the offseason, the 39-year-old veteran righty signed a one-year deal worth $5 million. He brings plenty of experience in high-leverage situations and could challenge Jordan Romano for the closer job when he's healthy. Romano blew his first save of the season against the Yankees on Monday, so Yates' return could be at the perfect time for him to take over the role if Romano has more issues. If you're seeking saves on the waiver wire and trying to get ahead of potential changes in a deep league, Yates is worth stashing since he's such a proven option when healthy.

Jordan Romano Blows First Save on Monday, Allows Three Runs

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Jordan Romano locked up his first four saves of the season, but he stumbled on Monday night in New York. He came in with a 10-8 lead and failed to record a single out before giving up three runs on three hits, including a Trent Grisham home run that tied the game. After Grisham's dinger, Jose Caballero doubled, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch to get the Yankees a walk-off win and hand Romano his first loss of the year. In his previous six games, Romano had not allowed a hit over five innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. He hadn't pitched in a week coming into this appearance and was due for a little regression. He will likely remain the team's primary closer for now, but he'll need to get back on track the next time he's called on for relief.

Jorge Soler  • RF  •  Angels

Jorge Soler an Intriguing Lower-Rostered Power Option

Los Angeles Angels outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler recently went on a stretch where he blasted a home run in three consecutive games, which was also part of a longer six-game hit streak, putting himself back on the fantasy radar. A couple of games in which he's gone 0-for-7 since then have surely left a sour taste in the mouths of fantasy managers who snapped him up off the waiver wire, but this is what you can expect from a player who owns a career barrel rate of 13.1 percent with only a 70.7 percent contact rate. Looking at career rates, though, the right-handed slugger is typically a slow starter, so perhaps now is the time to exercise patience, as the former All-Star holds a career slash line of .228/.312/.421 and wRC+ of 98 in the first half compared to .265/.360/.532 and 137 wRC+ in the second half. For now, interested managers can scoop the 34-year-old up in over 60 percent of Yahoo! leagues; just know that the potential power production could come at the expense of batting average, at least in the near term until he gets rolling.

Jorge Soler Suspended Seven Games, Will Appeal

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Jorge Soler has been suspended for seven games for brawling with Atlanta Braves right-hander Reynaldo Lopez on Tuesday night, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Soler took exception to a pitch up and in from Lopez in the fifth inning and charged the mound before throwing punches in a benches-clearing brawl. Until Soler's appeal is heard by the league, he'll be eligible to play for the Angels, including in Wednesday's contest against Atlanta at Angels Stadium. The 32-year-old veteran right-handed power hitter is slated to start in right field and bat cleanup for the Halos in Wednesday's series finale against Braves right-hander Grant Holmes. To begin his second season in Anaheim, Soler heads into Wednesday's action sporting a .220 average (9-for-41) with two home runs, 10 RBI, and seven runs scored in 12 games played. Keep Soler in your starting lineups for now until his suspension kicks in.

Robert Stephenson Undergoes Season-Ending Elbow Surgery

Los Angeles Angels right-handed reliever Robert Stephenson (elbow) underwent elbow surgery and is expected to be out for the entire 2026 season, manager Kurt Suzuki told Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Stephenson has dealt with elbow issues with the Angels and pitched only 10 innings during his three-year deal with the organization. More right-elbow issues surfaced for the 33-year-old veteran during spring training, and he landed on the 60-day injured list before the start of the regular season. Stephenson specifically had ligament and flexor-repair surgery, so he was able to avoid another UCL reconstruction, but it doesn't change the fact that he'll miss the entire season. The Angels have a $2.5 million team option on Stephenson for the 2027 season, but after all of his right-elbow issues, it wouldn't be a surprise if they let him reach the open market next winter. Right-hander Jordan Romano has looked good as the Angels' closer early on this year, with Stephenson (elbow), Ben Joyce (shoulder), and Kirby Yates (knee) all sidelined.

Alek Manoah  • SP  •  Angels

Alek Manoah Throwing Bullpens

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Alek Manoah (finger) has progressed to throwing bullpen sessions with all of his pitches at the team's spring training complex in Arizona, according to MLB.com. Manoah's right middle fingernail fell off after a March 17 start in spring training, which forced him to the 15-day injured list to begin the 2026 season. He should be ready to come off the IL at some point this month, but the Angels could have him begin the year at Triple-A Salt Lake after he struggled mightily in spring training, allowing 16 earned runs on 23 hits (five homers) while walking 14 and striking out 13. The former 11th overall pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019 out of West Virginia was an All-Star in 2022 in his second year in the big leagues and finished third in the American League Cy Young voting that year, but he completely fell apart after that and flamed out in Toronto. The Angels took a chance on Manoah this offseason, but there are no guarantees he'll get another extended run as a starter in the majors if his control problems persist.

Grayson Rodriguez Could Throw Off a Mound Soon

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) thinks he'll be throwing off a mound within a week after opening the 2026 season on the 15-day injured list with a right-shoulder strain, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. Rodriguez was also dealing with what manager Kurt Suzuki called "dead arm" during spring training. Rodriguez has been throwing up to 150 feet and thinks he'll throw his first bullpen session within the next week. He will also join the team on their road trip to Cincinnati and New York to continue his throwing program. With all that said, the former Orioles top prospect is still "likely weeks away" from making his debut with the Angels in the starting rotation. "The arm is definitely getting strong quick," Rodriguez said. "When I feel like I'm ready to throw the ball as hard as I want to throw it, that'll let me know. But with how I've been progressing the last week to two weeks, it's really given me a lot of confidence."
