Jorge Soler Getting Close to a Rehab Assignment

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jorge Soler (oblique) took batting practice on the field on Saturday and is nearing a minor-league rehab assignment, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. With the 34-year-old right-handed slugger getting closer to playing in games, he should be able to rejoin the Halos before the mid-July All-Star break, barring a setback. Soler has been on the 10-day injured list with a strained left oblique muscle since June 6. The Cuban outfielder has also dealt with a groin injury in 2026, and he will return to a .220/.300/.402 slash line, .702 OPS, nine home runs, 33 RBI, 28 runs scored, and 31.3% strikeout rate in 243 plate appearances this year. In 27 games (110 plate appearances) in May, Soler really struggled, going 19-for-101 (.188) with three home runs, four doubles, eight RBI, 11 runs scored, eight walks, and 35 strikeouts. Soler has a tendency to run hot and cold, and while he can still provide some decent pop from the right side of the plate, he's a killer for a fantasy team's batting average and on-base percentage because of his inability to make consistent contact. He's rostered in only 15% of Yahoo leagues right now and plays on one of the worst teams in baseball.

Jose Soriano is Set to Start on Friday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano (chest) was scratched ahead of his scheduled start against the Athletics on Thursday. Soriano is dealing with chest tightness and leg soreness, so the team will give him another day to rest. Angels' manager Kurt Suzuki confirmed on Thursday that Soriano will take the ball against the Athletics on Friday. It looks like they wanted to give Soriano an extra day to get 100 percent healthy. Soriano was unhittable to begin the season, but he has come back down to Earth. Over the last nine starts, Soriano has a 4.74 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and a 43:26 K:BB ratio. Fantasy managers should get him back in their lineups ahead of Friday's game.

Jose Soriano Scratched From Start on Thursday With Chest Injury

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano (chest) has been scratched from his scheduled start in Sacramento on Thursday night against the division-rival Athletics due to a chest injury, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. Ryan Johnson was called up from Double-A Rocket City to make the start against the A's in Soriano's place. The 27-year-old Soriano complained of chest and leg injuries during his last start on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, and he apparently still isn't feeling great. It's unclear at this time if Soriano's injuries are serious enough to send him to the injured list. Fantasy managers will want to check back later on Thursday night or early on Friday for more information on his status. The Dominican hurler has gone 8-4 with a 2.79 ERA (3.88 FIP) and 1.23 WHIP with 92 strikeouts and a league-high 42 walks in 87 innings across his 15 starts in 2026 in his fourth year in the majors. Soriano was nearly unhittable in the first month-plus of the season, but he has come back to Earth in his last eight starts since May 4, posting a 4.67 ERA (4.88 FIP), 43 strikeouts, and 26 walks in 44 1/3 frames. His sell-high window has closed quickly.

Christian Moore a Must-Add After Stellar Play at Triple-A?

With All-Star outfielder Mike Trout (hamstring) going on the 10-day injured list on Thursday, the Los Angeles Angels are calling up second baseman Christian Moore from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move, according to The Athletic's Sam Blum. Moore was drafted as a second baseman and has seen most of his time in the minors at the keystone, but he had recently been playing left field with the Bees and is starting in left field on Thursday against the division-rival Athletics and rookie left-hander Gage Jump in his first game back in the big leagues. The 23-year-old former eighth overall pick in 2024 out of the University of Tennessee rose quickly through the Angels' farm system and made his major-league debut in 2025, but he hit under .200 with a .284 on-base percentage, .655 OPS, seven home runs, 16 RBI, 20 runs, three steals, and a 33.7% strikeout rate in 53 games played. Moore hit .333/.468/.585 with a 1.053 OPS, nine homers, 45 RBI, 55 runs, and 10 steals in 51 games at Salt Lake before his call-up. For his power alone, Moore is worth a look off the waiver wire in deeper fantasy leagues, and he could gain outfield eligibility fairly soon.

Mike Trout Going on Injured List With Hamstring Injury

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (hamstring) is heading to the 10-day injured list with a hamstring injury, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. In a corresponding move, the Angels are calling up infielder Christian Moore. It's unclear exactly how serious Trout's injury is, but he'll be on the shelf until at least June 28 with yet another injury. The 34-year-old three-time MVP and 11-time All-Star has had a resurgent 2026 season to this point, and he was in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak with three home runs, five RBI, seven runs, and two steals before landing on the IL. In his 16th year in the big leagues, Trout has hit .234/.394/.472 with an .866 OPS, 17 home runs, 36 RBI, a league-leading 54 runs scored, and seven stolen bases across 74 games and 335 plate appearances. If his hamstring injury isn't that serious, Trout could return to the Angels before the All-Star break in mid-July. In the meantime, Jose Siri will likely start in center in Anaheim. Although Trout no longer hits for average, he can still contribute elsewhere, and he still gets on base plenty. Keep him stashed in an IL spot everywhere. UPDATE: Trout said that his concern level with his right hamstring is "pretty low," according to Bally Sports West's Erica Weston.

Walbert Urena Quietly Becoming a Pitcher to Roster in Deeper Leagues

Los Angeles Angels rookie right-hander Walbert Urena pitches for one of the worst teams in baseball, but he has gained steam off the waiver wire after going 4-5 with a 2.60 ERA (4.15 FIP) and 1.35 WHIP with 58 strikeouts and 35 walks in 62 1/3 innings pitched across his first 13 major-league appearances (11 starts) for the Halos. The 22-year-old Dominican took his fifth loss of the year in his last outing on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, giving up four runs (three earned) while walking two and striking out only three, but he threw a season-high seven innings. Urena already has six quality starts and has allowed three or fewer runs in nine straight outings to attract some eyeballs around the league. He's been a bit fortunate, though, with a bloated walk rate of 12.9% and with a below-average 21.3% strikeout rate. Urena has plenty of potential to stick around in the Angels' starting rotation for the rest of the season, but if his command doesn't improve, he's very likely to be hit by regression at some point soon. Right now, he's rostered in 40% of Yahoo leagues.

Kirby Yates  • RP  •  Angels

Is Kirby Yates Still the Closer to Roster in Los Angeles?

Los Angeles Angels right-handed pitcher Kirby Yates remains a speculative waiver-wire option for fantasy managers chasing saves, but the role is not completely stable. Over 13 1/3 innings, the 39-year-old has one save, a 4.05 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts. The season-long ratios are not ideal, but Yates has settled down recently with three straight scoreless appearances, allowing no hits and one walk while striking out four over three innings. The main issue is role clarity. Ryan Zeferjahn and Sam Bachman remain part of the late-inning picture, and Zeferjahn recently earned his second save of the season on June 12. Still, Yates has the most closing experience in the group and remains firmly in the mix if Los Angeles continues rotating ninth-inning chances. At 28% rostered on Yahoo, he is a reasonable short-term pickup for fantasy managers who need saves and can tolerate some bullpen uncertainty.

Brett Kerry  • SP  •  Angels

Brett Kerry Earns Call to Majors, Worth a Deep-League Add?

The Los Angeles Angels announced on Monday that they selected the contract of right-handed pitching prospect Brett Kerry from the minors. Kerry will make his first appearance in the big leagues for the last-place Angels after going 3-3 with a 5.92 ERA, 1.72 WHIP, and 59:21 K:BB in 62 1/3 innings pitched across 14 appearances (11 starts) this year with Triple-A Salt Lake. The 27-year-old former fifth-round pick in 2021 out of the University of South Carolina is expected to initially pitch out of the bullpen for the Halos, but he could be pushed to the starting rotation later this week to help fill right-hander Grayson Rodriguez's (back) spot after he was placed on the 15-day injured list on Monday. Opportunity is knocking for Kerry, but even fantasy managers in deep leagues may want to hold off on adding the inexperienced pitcher for the time being. Don't be surprised if it's a short stay in the big leagues for Kerry.

Reid Detmers  • SP  •  Angels

Reid Detmers a Top Option for Strikeouts on the Waiver Wire?

Los Angeles Angels left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers has become a strong waiver-wire option for fantasy managers seeking strikeouts. The 26-year-old enters the week with a 2-5 record, 4.00 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 97 strikeouts over 81 innings. While his win-loss record and season-long ERA don't fully reflect his recent work, Detmers has posted a 1.73 ERA, 0.54 WHIP, and 36:5 K:BB across his last four starts. That stretch includes 14 strikeouts over eight innings against the Texas Rangers, six scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and seven innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts against the Houston Astros. The Angels may limit his win upside, but the strikeout volume and recent ratio improvements are strong enough to matter in most formats. With his roster rate already up to 64% on Yahoo, Detmers may not be sitting on every waiver wire, but fantasy managers should move quickly in any league where he remains available.

Grayson Rodriguez Leaves With Back Tightness, Hopeful to Make Next Start

Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (back) left Sunday's contest against the Tampa Bay Rays early with lower back tightness after just 2 1/3 innings of work. Rodriguez allowed two runs on three hits and two walks before exiting in the third inning after feeling tightness on his second-to-last pitch. He is currently listed as day-to-day and remains hopeful that he will be able to make his next scheduled start. The 26-year-old has struggled mightily in his first season with the Angels, posting an 8.06 ERA, 1.83 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts across six starts. Early indications suggest Rodriguez has avoided anything significant, and a healthy return would give him an opportunity to reset after a difficult start to the season.

Jose Soriano Expects to Make his Next Start Despite Being Banged Up

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano (chest, leg) looked good on Saturday night against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, but he was forced to leave his start early with chest and leg injuries, according to Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune. Soriano threw five shutout innings with three hits allowed, two walks, and five strikeouts for his eighth win of the 2026 season. However, he left the game after throwing only 76 pitches and was hit by a 98 mph comebacker on the right side of his chest by the second batter of the game. He stayed in the game, but his chest tightened up between innings, and his legs also began to feel sore. "We wanted to kind of be cautious with him," Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said. The good news for the Angels and fantasy managers is that the 27-year-old Dominican expects to make his next start. After starting the year by allowing just one run in his first six starts, Soriano entered his start on Saturday with a 5.28 ERA in his previous eight starts, so it was nice to see him pitch well against Tampa. Soriano won't have an easy matchup his next time out in Sacramento against the A's, although he did pick up a quality start with two earned runs allowed, one walk, and seven strikeouts against them in his first meeting in Anaheim on May 21.

Ryan Zeferjahn  • RP  •  Angels

Ryan Zeferjahn Earns Save for Angels, Worth Picking Up in Deeper Leagues?

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Ryan Zeferjahn picked up his second save of 2026 on Friday, recording the final out of his team's 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Zeferjahn's season-long numbers don't jump off the page, as he's pitched to a 5.06 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 41 strikeouts across 32 innings (27 games). However, the 28-year-old is averaging 97.5 miles per hour on his fastball and has struck out 27.9% of the batters he's faced this season. The Angels have also begun to trust Zeferjahn in high-leverage roles, as he's appeared in the seventh inning or later in all six of his appearances in June and has allowed just one earned run in that span. In an underwhelming Angels bullpen, Zeferjahn may be the highest-upside option if he can bring down his 17% walk rate to a more respectable figure. For deep-league managers in desperate need of saves, Zeferjahn could be worth targeting on the waiver wire.

Jorge Soler Returns to Running, Light Baseball Activities

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jorge Soler (oblique) did some running on the field and participated in light baseball activities on Friday. Soler was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier this month due to a left oblique strain. While it's a positive sign that Soler is back to baseball activities in some capacity, oblique strains generally take longer than the 10-day minimum for players to return. Before the injury, the 34-year-old hit .220/.300/.402 with nine home runs, 33 RBI, and 28 runs scored. With a 31.3% strikeout rate, Soler is likely to be a drain on the batting average category for fantasy managers. However, the veteran slugger has posted a double-digit barrel rate in every season since 2017 and remains a viable power bat when healthy. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues may want to consider stashing him off the waiver wire as he gets closer to a return.

Christian Moore  • 2B  •  Angels

Christian Moore Emerging as Worthy Stash Candidate?

Los Angeles Angels second baseman Christian Moore has yet to appear in a big-league game in 2026. However, the 23-year-old has impressed across 226 plate appearances with Triple-A Salt Lake, hitting .309/.451/.514 with five home runs, 39 RBI, 48 runs scored, and nine stolen bases. Moore struggled across 184 plate appearances after making his MLB debut in 2025, hitting .198 with a 33.7% strikeout rate. He's made major improvements to his plate approach this season in the minors, lowering his strikeout rate to 22.1% while logging an elite 20.4% walk rate. The Angels have gotten capable production from second baseman Oswald Peraza so far this season, but Peraza's ability to play multiple spots on the infield could open a spot in Los Angeles for Moore. Given his five-category potential, Moore could be worth stashing off the waiver wire ahead of a potential promotion.

Walbert Urena a Potential Breakout Pitcher?

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Walbert Urena picked up the fourth win of his first season in the big leagues on Tuesday night over the visiting Houston Astros, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing three hits, walking five, and striking out seven. The 22-year-old Dominican hurler is now 4-4 in his rookie season for the Halos with a 2.44 ERA (4.01 FIP) and 1.35 WHIP with 55 strikeouts and 33 walks in 55 1/3 innings pitched over his 12 appearances (10 starts). Urena has exceeded expectations so far in his first big-league season, but his lack of control is something that is keeping him from being a true breakout candidate in his first year. He threw only 59 of his 107 pitches for strikes on Tuesday against Houston, and he has at least three walks in each of his last four starts. His five-walk performance this week was his second such outing of 2026. If Urena can start to limit the free passes, he'll become much more attractive off the waiver wire. Right now, Urena is rostered in 31% of Yahoo leagues.

Ryan Zeferjahn  • RP  •  Angels

Ryan Zeferjahn Emerging as a Sneaky Stash Candidate in Angels Bullpen

Across 30 2/3 innings (25 games) so far this season, Los Angeles Angels right-hander Ryan Zeferjahn has pitched to a 5.28 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 38 strikeouts and one save. While the 28-year-old's top-line numbers are ugly, he's averaging 97.4 miles per hour on his fastball and has struck out 27% of the batters he's faced. His xERA is 3.92, and his strand rate is a below-average 64.7%, so he may be a victim of some poor luck. Perhaps most importantly for fantasy managers, Zeferjahn may be the leading candidate in the Angels bullpen to assume the closer role from the struggling Kirby Yates. Yates has pitched the ninth inning in eight straight appearances, and in that stretch, he's blown two saves and suffered two losses while allowing four earned runs. Zeferjahn's profile comes with some risk, but he might be the highest-upside reliever in an Angels bullpen that has struggled mightily to fill the closer role in 2026. In deeper fantasy leagues, managers may want to take a chance on Zeferjahn on the waiver wire.

Trey Mancini  • 1B  •  Angels

Trey Mancini Racks Up Three Hits in Season Debut, Is He Back on the Fantasy Radar?

Los Angeles Angels first baseman Trey Mancini returned to the majors for the first time since July 31, 2023, and he looked impressive in his first game back. The 34-year-old righty went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in his team's 5-4, extra-inning loss to the Astros. He put up solid numbers in Triple-A last year for the Diamondbacks, hitting .308 with 16 homers and a .389 wOBA before opting out on July 1st. He slashed .273/.377/.464 in 52 games in Triple-A this season with six homers, 40 runs scored, and 29 RBI before returning to the majors on Monday. Mancini could get some playing time with Nolan Schanuel (ankle) battling tendinitis and Vaughn Grissom (oblique) on the injured list. Mancini has hit well enough at Triple-A to be an interesting deep-league pickup and streaming option if he continues to get playing time for the Halos. He doesn't have elite power or an extremely high ceiling, but he has proven that he can make consistent contact and accumulate counting stats.

Kirby Yates  • RP  •  Angels

Kirby Yates Blows Another Save Opportunity, Will He Fall Into a Closer Committee?

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Kirby Yates couldn't hold on to a one-run lead against the Astros on Monday night, and his team went on to lose in extra innings. To start the inning, Yates walked Jeremy Pena, who stole second and scored on a single by Christian Walker. While he didn't take the loss on Monday, Yates' ERA climbed to 5.23 on the season, and he has allowed a run in three of his last four appearances. The Angels don't have many proven options in the bullpen, or Yates may have already been in a committee, but if they do look to go a different direction, Sam Bachman has been very effective as a setup man. Yates still will likely get save chances for the Angels, but he'll need to turn things around soon if he doesn't want to lose his job. It's hard to have much confidence in him at this point, and better options may be available on your league's waiver wire.

Reid Detmers  • SP  •  Angels

Reid Detmers a Priority Waiver-Wire Target Amidst Current Hot Streak

Across 74 innings (13 starts) in 2026, Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers owns a 2-5 record with a 4.26 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 88 strikeouts. The left-hander has a rough outing in mid-May against the Athletics, allowing eight earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of work. However, Detmers has been red-hot since then, allowing just four earned runs while striking out 27 across 19 innings (three starts). With a 2.92 xERA and a 2.92 FIP, Detmers' underlying metrics reflect that his ERA is inflated by a couple of blow-up starts. He also owns an excellent 28.5% strikeout rate and has done a solid job of limiting both walks (7.8% walk rate) and home runs (0.73 HR/9). In any fantasy league where he's not already rostered, Detmers profiles as a high-upside starting pitcher option who should be a priority waiver wire target for managers.

Sebastian Rivero Breaks Out With Five-Hit Game Against Dodgers

Los Angeles Angels catcher Sebastian Rivero defied expectations in Sunday's 13-5 blowout win over the hosting Los Angeles Dodgers by going 5-for-5 with a double, six RBI, and a run scored for the Halos out of the nine-hole. Despite the big performance in the finale of the Freeway Series, Rivero is still hitting just .220 (11-for-50) with two doubles, eight RBI, four runs scored, three walks, and 11 strikeouts so far in 2026 in 23 games across 54 plate appearances. Fantasy managers shouldn't take his big game on Sunday as a sign that they need to scoop him up off the waiver wire. The 27-year-old Venezuelan backstop will continue to serve as the backup catcher in Anaheim behind Logan O'Hoppe with Travis d'Arnaud (foot) on the injured list. Rivero is a career .188/.239/.228 hitter with zero home runs and 14 RBI in 68 career major-league games since debuting in 2021 with the Kansas City Royals.
