Josh Lowe Still Bothered by Oblique

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) has been shut down for a few days because of his oblique, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. It's an injury that has bothered Lowe for the past two years. Manager Kurt Suzuki said the team is "going to give him a few more days to be cautious." The 28-year-old missed time with the Tampa Bay Rays each of the last two seasons due to oblique injuries, so it's not a great sign that he's still bothered by it this spring. The former 13th overall pick in 2016 has never been able to reach his full potential in the big leagues due to injuries, but if he can stay healthy, he's an outfielder sleeper in deeper fantasy leagues because of his power/speed upside. Lowe will need to stay healthy and figure out a way to improve against left-handers, though. He has yet to play in more than 135 games in a season, and he hit .220/.283/.366 with a .650 OPS, 11 home runs, 40 RBI, 56 runs, and 18 steals in 108 games in Tampa last year.

Angels Acquire Josh Lowe in Three-Team Trade

The Los Angeles Angels are acquiring outfielder Josh Lowe from the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday in a three-team trade that also involves the Cincinnati Reds, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. The Reds are sending infielder Gavin Lux and right-hander Chris Clark to the Rays, and the Angels are sending left-hander Brock Burke to the Reds. Lowe will give the Angels more outfield depth after they traded Taylor Ward to the Baltimore Orioles this offseason for right-hander Grayson Rodriguez. Lowe, a 27-year-old left-handed hitter, has struggled with injuries the last two years with Tampa, but his power/speed upside makes him worth a late-round gamble. The former first-rounder hit 20 homers and stole 32 bases in 2023, and he combined for 21 homers and 43 steals in 214 the last two years in Tampa. In addition to durability concerns, Lowe has struggled against left-handers. A change of scenery could help Lowe, but he still has to stay healthy, and he could be limited to a strong-side platoon outfield role.

Josh Lowe Out of Lineup on Friday

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe is not in the lineup on Friday against Chicago Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd. Jake Mangum will take over for Lowe in right field and hit fifth, while Everson Pereira will play center and bat sixth. It's logical to sit Lowe against a tough lefty, as southpaws have held him to a miserable .496 OPS in 104 plate appearances in 2025. The left-handed Lowe has had far more success versus righties (.777 OPS), leading to an overall line of .236/.301/.399 with 11 homers, 39 RBI, 54 runs, and 17 steals in 387 trips to the plate.

Josh Lowe Absent Against Southpaw

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. This appears to be a rare off day for Lowe who has started in each of the last 13 games. This is a good time to sit him against left-hander Logan Allen. The Rays will go the matchup route and have the switch-hitting Jake Mangum in his place in right field and batting sixth on Thursday. Lowe figures to be back in the starting lineup following this contest.

Josh Lowe Returning on Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees. Lowe will return to the mix after missing each of the last three games due to right oblique tightness. The 27-year-old has been struggling at the plate this month, so maybe a few days off will help him get back on track. He'll cover right field and bat fifth versus right-hander Cam Schlittler on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Lowe back in there ahead of first pitch.

Josh Lowe Expects to Return Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) expects to rejoin the team's lineup on Wednesday against the New York Yankees. "I'm good to go," said Lowe, who has been out since last Friday with tightness in his right oblique. Lowe seemed to break out in 2023 with a .292/.335/.500 line, 20 homers, 83 RBI, 71 runs scored, and 32 stolen bases in 501 plate appearances. His production has dropped off since then, though, and he has slashed an uninspiring .229/.295/.369 with seven HRs, 29 RBI, 40 runs, and 12 steals in 309 trips to the plate this season. The 27-year-old will go up against Yankees rookie right-hander Cam Schlittler on Wednesday. Righties have held the lefty-swinging Lowe to a .236/.310/.385 line in 2025.

Josh Lowe Remains Sidelined on Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants. This comes a day after Lowe was scratched ahead of Saturday's contest due to oblique tightness. The organization is hopeful to avoid a stint on the injured list, but oblique issues sometimes are tricky. Everson Pereira will take over center field while Jake Mangum moves to right field against right-hander Logan Webb on Sunday. Fantasy managers should check back on Tuesday for another update on Lowe. The Rays are off on Monday before beginning an important series against the New York Yankees on Tuesday.

Josh Lowe Scratched from Saturday's Lineup

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe (oblique) was scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants. He was originally penciled in to play right field, but will now head to the bench due to oblique tightness. For now, fantasy managers can consider Lowe as day-to-day, but oblique issues often times result in injured list stints. Everson Pereira will move into the lineup and cover center field while Jake Mangum slides into right field. Fantasy managers should check back for another update on Lowe.

Josh Lowe Homers on Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe had a productive day in his team's 6-5 win over the Athletics on Wednesday. Lowe went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in the win. The veteran outfielder tied the game at 2-2 with his solo blast in the sixth inning, a shot that traveled 413 feet with an exit velocity of 107.3 MPH. Lowe is now hitting .269 with six homers, 29 runs, 15 RBI, and six steals across 156 at-bats this season. He has been struggling to find his power stroke after hitting 20 homers back in 2023, with only 16 dingers since, but he at least has theoretical 20-homer, 20-steal potential in fantasy if he can get his bat going again.

Josh Lowe Launches Fourth Homer

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 7-1 win against the visiting Baltimore Orioles. Lowe scored twice, drew a walk, and notched a sacrifice bunt. The Virginia native blasted a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning off the Orioles' Zack Eflin -- his fourth of the season -- to give the Rays a 1-0 lead, and they never looked back. Lowe's .241/.317/.407 triple slash isn't that of your typical leadoff man. However, the Rays run him out there more often than not. Furthermore, he's underperforming his .282 xBA by a good margin (.241). That also shows up in his career-low .286 BABIP -- over 50 points lower than he sported in 2024 (.338).
