New York Mets outfielder Jose Siri (shin) was removed early during Saturday's game against the Athletics. Siri was carted off the field after fouling a ball off his left shin in the second inning. He underwent testing, which didn't appear to reveal anything too serious. That being said, Siri should be considered as day-to-day for now. The hope is that Siri can avoid a trip to the injured list, but the Mets should give another update on his status soon. Tyrone Taylor took over in center field on Saturday and figures to see more playing time if Siri is forced to miss some time.
New York Mets outfielder Jose Siri is starting again in center field and is batting ninth on Tuesday against the division-rival Miami Marlins and right-hander Sandy Alcantara at loanDepot Park. Siri has made the last three starts in center for the Mets after Tyrone Taylor opened the first two games of the season as the team's center fielder. In his first two games for the Mets early on, Siri has a double, RBI, stolen base, one walk and three strikeouts in seven plate appearances. Taylor also has only one hit with two strikeouts in nine plate appearances in his three games for the Mets. Expect the Mets to continue to mix and match in center field with both Siri and Taylor, limiting the fantasy appeal of both players to mainly NL-only leagues. Because of Siri's high whiff and strikeout rates, Taylor will probably be the safer fantasy bet offensively.
New York Mets outfielder Jose Siri has gone 3-for-10 with three long balls during his first taste of spring training with the Mets. He has tallied seven RBI and held a 3:3 BB:K. He has also swiped one bag. Earlier in the offseason, the Mets acquired Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Eric Orze. He then signed a one-year, $2.4 million contract to avoid arbitration. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his performance during spring training, as he could eventually claim the starting center field job over Tyrone Taylor. Last season, Siri went deep 18 times and stole 14 bags with a .187/.255/.366 slash line. He generated a strong 14.7 percent barrel rate but struck out at a hefty 37.9 percent rate. Taylor held a .248/.299/.401 line. If Siri were to win the job, he could have value in deeper category formats given his power and speed upside.
The New York Mets acquired outfielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in exchange for pitcher Eric Orze, according to a league source. Siri could see a considerable amount of playing time next year for the Mets with Harrison Bader potentially leaving in free agency. However, the 29-year-old Dominican is going to need to pick it up offensively after hitting just .187/.255/.366 with a weak .620 OPS, 18 home runs, 47 RBI, a career-high-tying 14 stolen bases and 50 runs scored in 130 games played (448 plate appearances). Siri struck out 37.9 percent of the time. His glove is probably his most attractive attribute, but he can also provide some modest speed in NL-only leagues. Orze is a 27-year-old reliever who had a 2.92 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and three saves in 61 2/3 innings for Triple-A Syracuse in 2024 before making his major-league debut (1 2/3 frames).
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri and infielder Taylor Walls will both start Thursday's game against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on the bench. Jonny DeLuca will start in center field and bat eighth for the Rays, with Jose Caballero starting at shortstop and hitting sixth against Guardians right-hander Gavin Williams. DeLuca is hitless in two career at-bats against Williams, while Caballero is hitless in his only at-bat against Williams. Siri could see more time on the bench moving forward if he can't break out of his recent slump soon. The 29-year-old Dominican is hitting .184 (69-for-374) on the year and is 1-for-24 (.042) with two walks and 11 K's in eight games in September. Walls has played in only 72 games this year due to injuries and is hitting a similarly weak .179/.287/.242 with a homer, 13 RBI and 14 stolen bases.
Christopher Morel, Brandon Lowe, Jose Siri Sitting On Friday
Tampa Bay Rays third baseman/outfielder Christopher Morel, second baseman Brandon Lowe and outfielder Jose Siri are all heading to the bench on Friday versus the division-rival Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Dean Kremer at Camden Yards. Dylan Carlson is starting in left field and batting cleanup, Jose Caballero is at second base and batting seventh, and Jonny DeLuca is in center field and is in the six-hole against Kremer, who is making his first start off the injured list. Morel has struggled in his short time with Tampa since being acquired from the Cubs at the trade deadline, hitting .191 (22-for-115) with three homers, five RBI and 42 strikeouts in 31 games. Carlson has hit just .208 (16-for-77) in 25 games since joining the Rays at the trade deadline, but all three of his homers have come in Tampa. He'll be a deep DFS sleeper in the cleanup spot for the Rays on Friday.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielders Jose Siri and Jonny DeLuca are out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum. Rookie Kameron Misner will play center field and hit eighth, while Dylan Carlson will draw into the lineup in left field and bat third against A's right-hander Osvaldo Bido. Siri will get a day of rest after going deep in each of his last two games. The 29-year-old Dominican is up to 16 home runs in his second full season in Tampa but is batting a dreadful .199/.270/.386 with a .656 OPS, 41 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 136 strikeouts in 106 games played. Carlson was struggling with injuries with the Cardinals before being acquired by Tampa at the trade deadline. The 25-year-old switch-hitter has only three home runs and 20 RBI on the year in 166 at-bats. Misner is still searching for his first big-league hit after fanning eight times in his first 11 trips to the plate.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri homered in his second straight game in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Athletics, belting a 423-foot shot for his 16th home run of the season in a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Unfortunately, Siri's above-average chase rate of 32.9% and well-below-average 62.2% contact rate leads to a 36.4% K% and bouts of ineffectiveness, so this two-game home run streak comes on the heels of an 0-for-19 stretch for the 29-year-old. He now has a .199-16-41-42-12 line on the season with a .285 wOBA and 88 wRC+, but despite contributing somewhat across categories, the Dominican is hard to rely on for fantasy and will likely crush your batting average if you do.
Jose Siri Sitting On Saturday, Losing Playing Time
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri will take a seat again on Saturday afternoon as the Rays continue a three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is the third time in the past four games that the 29-year-old has been kept out of the starting nine. Since the start of August, Siri has carried a .188/.257/.219 line with no home runs and just two stolen bases, As a result, Jonny DeLuca will get the starting nod at center field this afternoon and will bat in the seven-hole. Overall, Siri has showcased his upside for power and speed but has never been able to show it on a consistent basis. While DeLuca holds an underwhelming .171 AVG this month, he has begun to be a regular in the Tampa starting nine. He is best to fade this afternoon in DFS as he will face Arizona ace, Zac Gallen.
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri bat-dropped and admired two solo home runs and pitched in a walk Friday night in a 3-1 win over the Washington Nationals. The pair of home runs puts Siri at 11 on the season to go along with 29 RBI. In his last four games, Siri has raised his batting average from .206 to .219. Still, due to his lack of consistency in the batting average department and his low OBP skills, he's provided no stolen bases despite being capable of stealing many bases with his athleticism. He remains a deep league injury replacement at best unless his hot streak continues over a longer period.
