Grayson Rodriguez to Make his Angels Debut on Sunday Against Dodgers

The Los Angeles Angels announced on Friday that right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) will come off the 15-day injured list to make his debut with the team in Sunday's series finale against the crosstown-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. It will be a boost for the Halos' starting rotation, but fantasy managers in mixed leagues will probably want to take a wait-and-see approach with a pitcher who will be making his first appearance in the big leagues since 2024 with the Baltimore Orioles due to multiple arm-related injuries. Rodriguez was not ready for the start of the 2026 campaign due to right-shoulder inflammation that began back in spring training. In his two minor-league rehab starts, the former top pitching prospect allowed three earned runs while walking two and striking out 18 over 9 2/3 innings pitched. If healthy, G-Rod will be a staple in the Angels' starting rotation, but there are major concerns as to whether he can return to his pre-injury form as a high-end rotation arm. Rodriguez is currently rostered in 16% of Yahoo leagues. DFS managers should be looking to avoid him against the first-place Dodgers.

Grayson Rodriguez Could be Activated to Start on Sunday

Los Angeles Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said the team has considered activating right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to have him make his debut with the team on Sunday against the crosstown-rival Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. Right-hander Ryan Johnson is another candidate to make the start in the series finale against the Dodgers on Sunday. Rodriguez pitched in a rehab game last Sunday at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. The 26-year-old looked good at Rancho Cucamonga, allowing two runs while striking out 11 over 4 2/3 innings, and most importantly, he threw 94 pitches. Right-shoulder inflammation has kept the former Orioles top prospect out all year, and he hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2024 with Baltimore. Rodriguez is a major question mark for fantasy purposes, and he'll be an easy fade if he makes his 2026 debut against L.A. He's currently rostered in just 15% of Yahoo leagues.

Grayson Rodriguez Fans 11 in Rehab Start at Single-A

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) turned some heads in his second minor-league rehab start on Sunday with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. The 26-year-old allowed two earned runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out 11 in just 4 2/3 innings pitched. Rodriguez also had a wild pitch and hit a batter, but he got up to 94 pitches in the outing, so he may not need another rehab start before being activated from the 15-day injured list. He threw 63 of his 94 pitches for strikes. In his first rehab outing in the Arizona Complex League last week, Rodriguez allowed just one earned run with seven strikeouts and no walks in five innings. He has looked sharp down on the farm, but it has also come against weak competition. The former Orioles top prospect is nearing his Angels regular-season debut and is worth a look for fantasy managers in deeper leagues who need rotation arms. Right now, Rodriguez is only rostered in 13% of Yahoo leagues.

Grayson Rodriguez Throws 60 Pitches in Simulated Game

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) has taken the next step in his rehab, as he threw 60 pitches in a four-inning simulated game on April 30. The 26-year-old is working his way back from shoulder inflammation that has prevented him from taking the MLB mound so far in 2026. The next step for Rodriguez is likely to go out on a minor league rehab assignment, which would potentially put him a few weeks away from making his return to the big leagues. Rodriguez is no stranger to injury troubles, as he missed the entire 2025 season with lat and elbow issues. However, he was a productive pitcher in 2024, recording a 3.86 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 130 strikeouts across 116 2/3 innings with the Baltimore Orioles. While health is obviously a major concern for Rodriguez, he remains a worthy upside bet off the waiver wire for deeper-league fantasy managers once activated by the Angels.

Grayson Rodriguez Facing Hitters in Arizona

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) faced hitters in Arizona for the equivalent of three innings on Friday, and manager Kurt Suzuki said he "feels good," according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. Suzuki said the team will wait until they see how Rodriguez feels before determining his next step. Rodriguez has yet to make his Angels debut after landing on the 15-day injured list with right-shoulder inflammation before Opening Day. The 26-year-old appears to be on the verge of starting what will be a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment, which means he could be an option to join the Halos' starting rotation at some point in May. Rodriguez came up with the Baltimore Orioles as one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball. The former 11th overall pick in 2018 looked good in his second MLB season in 2024 and has a 25.7% strikeout rate in his 238 2/3 big-league innings, but injuries are threatening to derail his career. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues can likely take a wait-and-see approach to G-Rod once he hears a return to the big-league mound. He's rostered in only 12% of Yahoo leagues right now.

Grayson Rodriguez Could Throw Off a Mound Soon

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) thinks he'll be throwing off a mound within a week after opening the 2026 season on the 15-day injured list with a right-shoulder strain, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. Rodriguez was also dealing with what manager Kurt Suzuki called "dead arm" during spring training. Rodriguez has been throwing up to 150 feet and thinks he'll throw his first bullpen session within the next week. He will also join the team on their road trip to Cincinnati and New York to continue his throwing program. With all that said, the former Orioles top prospect is still "likely weeks away" from making his debut with the Angels in the starting rotation. "The arm is definitely getting strong quick," Rodriguez said. "When I feel like I'm ready to throw the ball as hard as I want to throw it, that'll let me know. But with how I've been progressing the last week to two weeks, it's really given me a lot of confidence."

Grayson Rodriguez Playing Catch as he Works Through Dead Arm

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (arm) has been playing catch in Houston, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day injured list going into his first regular season with the Angels with an official designation of right-shoulder inflammation, but the team is calling it a case of dead arm. The 26-year-old's injury isn't considered serious, so barring a setback, he could make his Angels debut in 2026 before the end of April. Until he's able to rejoin the Angels' starting rotation, Ryan Johnson will fill in. Rodriguez came up through the Baltimore Orioles' system as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball before making his MLB debut in 2023. He didn't pitch at all in 2025 in his final season in Baltimore due to elbow and lat issues, but he had a 4.11 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 259:78 K:BB in 43 starts (238 2/3 innings pitched) his first two years in the Show. Rodriguez is worth stashing in mixed leagues because of the upside still in his arm, but durability has become a major question mark.

Grayson Rodriguez Officially Placed on 15-Day Injured List

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez (arm) has officially been placed on the 15-day injured list to open 2026, per Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune. Rodriguez is battling dead arm, so the hope is that he will be able to return to the mound sooner rather than later. Still, the 26-year-old's extensive injury history makes him difficult to trust for fantasy managers. Rodriguez missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing elbow surgery to remove bone spurs. Before this most recent ailment, Rodriguez recorded a 4.97 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 12 strikeouts across 12 2/3 Cactus League innings for the Angels. Command was a major issue in the spring, as he issued 10 walks. Rodriguez has fantasy appeal if he can get back to the level he showed in 2024 while pitching for the Baltimore Orioles, when he recorded a 26.5% strikeout rate across 116 2/3 innings. However, he will need to prove he can stay healthy for an extended stretch.

Grayson Rodriguez to Open Season on Injured List

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez (arm) is going to open the season on the 15-day Injured List. Rodriguez is reportedly dealing with general soreness that will keep him sidelined to start the year. He's basically dealing with dead arm that will hopefully only keep him sidelined for the minimum of 15 days. Jack Kochanowicz and Ryan Johnson have been named the final two starters with Rodriguez out. Rodriguez hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2024, with him missing all of last season due to elbow issues. When healthy, Rodriguez has posted good numbers, but the arm issues make him difficult to trust as a long-term fantasy option.

Grayson Rodriguez Plays Catch on Friday, Doesn't Consider Arm Issue to Be Serious

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez (arm) played "light catch" on Friday, per Jeff Fletcher of SoCal News Group. Fletcher also reports that Rodriguez said he's not worried about a major injury, although it's still to be determined whether or not the 26-year-old will open the season on the Injured List. Injury troubles are nothing new for Rodriguez, who missed the entirety of 2025 due to an elbow issue. Rodriguez has shown he can be a productive pitcher when healthy, as he posted a 13-4 record with a 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 130 strikeouts across 116 2/3 innings (20 starts) in 2024. It's also a good sign that Rodriguez has not been shut down from throwing at this point. However, Rodriguez's track record of poor health, combined with his current arm troubles, makes it difficult for fantasy managers to trust him heading into 2026.
