Grayson Rodriguez Playing Catch as he Works Through Dead Arm

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (arm) has been playing catch in Houston, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day injured list going into his first regular season with the Angels with an official designation of right-shoulder inflammation, but the team is calling it a case of dead arm. The 26-year-old's injury isn't considered serious, so barring a setback, he could make his Angels debut in 2026 before the end of April. Until he's able to rejoin the Angels' starting rotation, Ryan Johnson will fill in. Rodriguez came up through the Baltimore Orioles' system as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball before making his MLB debut in 2023. He didn't pitch at all in 2025 in his final season in Baltimore due to elbow and lat issues, but he had a 4.11 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 259:78 K:BB in 43 starts (238 2/3 innings pitched) his first two years in the Show. Rodriguez is worth stashing in mixed leagues because of the upside still in his arm, but durability has become a major question mark.

Grayson Rodriguez Officially Placed on 15-Day Injured List

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez (arm) has officially been placed on the 15-day injured list to open 2026, per Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune. Rodriguez is battling dead arm, so the hope is that he will be able to return to the mound sooner rather than later. Still, the 26-year-old's extensive injury history makes him difficult to trust for fantasy managers. Rodriguez missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing elbow surgery to remove bone spurs. Before this most recent ailment, Rodriguez recorded a 4.97 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 12 strikeouts across 12 2/3 Cactus League innings for the Angels. Command was a major issue in the spring, as he issued 10 walks. Rodriguez has fantasy appeal if he can get back to the level he showed in 2024 while pitching for the Baltimore Orioles, when he recorded a 26.5% strikeout rate across 116 2/3 innings. However, he will need to prove he can stay healthy for an extended stretch.

Grayson Rodriguez to Open Season on Injured List

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez (arm) is going to open the season on the 15-day Injured List. Rodriguez is reportedly dealing with general soreness that will keep him sidelined to start the year. He's basically dealing with dead arm that will hopefully only keep him sidelined for the minimum of 15 days. Jack Kochanowicz and Ryan Johnson have been named the final two starters with Rodriguez out. Rodriguez hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2024, with him missing all of last season due to elbow issues. When healthy, Rodriguez has posted good numbers, but the arm issues make him difficult to trust as a long-term fantasy option.

Grayson Rodriguez Plays Catch on Friday, Doesn't Consider Arm Issue to Be Serious

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez (arm) played "light catch" on Friday, per Jeff Fletcher of SoCal News Group. Fletcher also reports that Rodriguez said he's not worried about a major injury, although it's still to be determined whether or not the 26-year-old will open the season on the Injured List. Injury troubles are nothing new for Rodriguez, who missed the entirety of 2025 due to an elbow issue. Rodriguez has shown he can be a productive pitcher when healthy, as he posted a 13-4 record with a 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 130 strikeouts across 116 2/3 innings (20 starts) in 2024. It's also a good sign that Rodriguez has not been shut down from throwing at this point. However, Rodriguez's track record of poor health, combined with his current arm troubles, makes it difficult for fantasy managers to trust him heading into 2026.

Grayson Rodriguez Dealing With Arm Soreness

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (arm) is dealing with some arm soreness in camp, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Manager Kurt Suzuki called it dead arm, and there's still a chance he'll be ready for the start of the 2026 regular season next week if his arm feels better in the coming days. The Angels will continue to monitor him, but this could turn into an injured-list situation for Rodriguez. It's not what Angels fans want to hear from a pitcher who missed all of the 2025 season in Baltimore due to late and elbow issues, but the good news is that Rodriguez still played catch in spring training on Thursday, and the Angels genuinely don't believe it's anything serious. Still, it's a situation that could cause him to miss the start of his first year in Anaheim. The former 11th overall pick by the O's in 2018 was once the top pitching prospect in baseball, and he's shown high-end upside at times. He showed improvement in Year 2 in 2024, going 13-4 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 130:36 K:BB in 20 starts before injuries shut him down. Rodriguez is a high-risk, high-reward late-round flier who has a 4.97 ERA with 12 strikeouts and 10 walks in 12 2/3 Cactus League innings this year.

Grayson Rodriguez Happy With his Secondary Pitches

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez is happy with his slider and curveball in spring training, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. "This is the best those two pitches have ever been. So I've got that going for me. Heater is obviously there. The velocity is there. One big thing for me, and kind of what's been in the past, is working on command," Rodriguez said. The 26-year-old missed all of last year with the Baltimore Orioles due to elbow and lat injuries, but he appears to be fully healthy this spring as he enters his first season with the Angels. In his lone Cactus League outing last week against the San Francisco Giants, G-Rod allowed a run on one hit and three walks while striking out two batters in 1 2/3 innings. His command left a lot to be desired, but the primary takeaway is that Rodriguez is healthy. Durability is a question mark, but Rodriguez has displayed elite upside in the past, making him worth a late-round flier in mixed fantasy leagues.

Grayson Rodriguez is Aiming to Make 30 Starts

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez is aiming to make 30 starts in 2026 despite missing all of last season due to injury. Rodriguez didn't pitch in 2025 after having bone spurs removed from his right elbow. The right-hander says that he has already noticed a significant difference. Having a healthy Rodriguez could be a huge boost to the Halos' rotation this season. The 26-year-old was acquired in a trade that sent outfielder Taylor Ward to the Baltimore Orioles earlier in the offseason. The former first-rounder has been a viable option when healthy, but keeping him on the mound has been the problem. In 2024, Rodriguez posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 130/36 K/BB ratio across 20 starts with the O's. The potential is still there for Rodriguez to be a top-of-the-line starter, so hopefully he can stay healthy and prove it in 2026.

Grayson Rodriguez Must Prove his Health to Earn Rotation Spot

Los Angeles Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said that right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (elbow) will have to prove he's healthy to earn an Opening Day starting rotation spot, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. The same is true for right-hander Alek Manoah, while Suzuki named lefties Yusei Kikuchi and Reid Detmers, and right-hander Jose Soriano as locks for the rotation. Rodriguez was acquired by the Angels from the Baltimore Orioles back in November, but after missing all of last year with elbow and lat injuries, the Halos want to make sure he's fully healthy before committing to him as a starter. The 26-year-old former first-rounder was one of the top prospects in baseball in the O's system before he made his big-league debut in 2023, though, so he could bounce back nicely if he can stay on the mound. Rodriguez showed high-end potential in 2024, when he had a 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 26.5% strikeout rate.

Grayson Rodriguez Shipped to Angels

The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (elbow) on Tuesday from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for power-hitting outfielder Taylor Ward, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. Rodriguez missed the entire 2025 season due to a right-elbow injury, but he is a former top prospect with plenty of long-term upside, and the Angels are desperately hoping he can become a top-of-the-rotation starter they've been seeking for years. The 26-year-old former 11th overall pick in 2018 is under club control for four more years and is expected to be ready for spring training. In his first two big-league seasons with the O's in 2023 and 2024, Rodriguez went 20-8 with a 4.11 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 259:78 K:BB in 43 starts. Rodriguez's strikeout upside is obvious, but he also missed the end of the 2024 season with a lat injury, leaving plenty of questions about his durability. He'll be a risk/reward fantasy selection in 2026 drafts.

Grayson Rodriguez to Have Workload Restrictions in 2026?

Baltimore Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias hinted on Wednesday at the GM meetings in Las Vegas that right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (elbow) will face workload restrictions next season, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. "You miss a year and 2 months, we've got to be realistic about that, and it's not something that we're planning around very heavily. But he's a guy that provides a real wild card for us talent-wise," Elias said. Rodriguez was expected to start ramping up his throwing program in October after he missed all of 2025 due to multiple right-elbow issues before having surgery to remove a bone spur in his arm in August. The 25-year-old former 11th overall pick in 2018 is expected to be ready for the start of spring training in mid-February. However, even if he doesn't have any setbacks with his elbow, his innings will be monitored closely in 2026, limiting his fantasy upside.
