Angels Sign Brent Suter to One-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Angels announced on Friday that they signed free-agent left-hander Brent Suter to a one-year, $1.25 million deal, according to Taylor Blake Ward of Baseball America. Suter spent the last two seasons pitching for the Cincinnati Reds, where he had a 3.85 ERA (4.44 FIP), 1.21 WHIP, two saves, 103 strikeouts, and 30 walks in 133 1/3 innings over 95 appearances (six starts). He had a 4.52 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 53:18 K:BB in 67 2/3 innings last year. Suter brings plenty of experience -- he's heading into his 11th season in the big leagues in 2026 -- but he can be ignored for fantasy purposes as a middle-relief arm with virtually no strikeout upside. In his 10 big-league campaigns, Suter only has a 19.9% strikeout rate in 597 1/3 total innings.

Angels Closing in on Contract with Brent Suter

The Los Angeles Angels are closing in on a contract with relief pitcher Brent Suter, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. Suter has bounced between the rotation and bullpen throughout his 10-year MLB career, but has begun to settle in as a primary reliever over the past five campaigns. Last summer, the reliever spent his second season with the Reds and logged 67 2/3 innings to the tune of a 4.52 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP. He struck out 53 hitters while showing above-average command, posting a 6.2% walk rate. He also limited hard contact at a stellar 32.9% rate while generating groundballs at a high 45.4% rate, suggesting he may see some positive regression in 2026. With the Angels, managers should expect Suter to operate in a middle-relief role, with the upside to earn occasional starts.

Brent Suter Continues to Have Suitors in Free Agency

According to Robert Murray of FanSided.com, free-agent pitcher Brent Suter continues to draw interest among many clubs on the open market. Murray noted that the left-hander is currently evaluating his options. In 2025, Suter spent the entire campaign with the Reds and logged 67 2/3 innings, primarily as a reliever (three starts). He posted a modest 4.52 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP. He struck out just 53 batters but did limit hard contact, generating a 32.9% hard-hit rate with a 7.8% barrel rate. Additionally, Suter showed strong command, serving up free passes at a low 6.2% rate. Managers in deeper leagues that reward holds should monitor his status as he could become a late-inning option for a team. However, he is not expected to compete for any closer role, as he has tallied just three saves in his 10-year MLB career.

Brent Suter Inks Extension With Cincinnati

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Brent Suter signed a one-year extension with the Cincinnati Reds that has a club option for 2026 according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. Suter typically operated a relief option for the Reds but did manage to make two starts this season. Across 65 2/3 innings of work this summer, the 35-year-old held a 3.15 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, with a 12:50 BB:K ratio. Under the hood, Suter boasted a stellar 30.2% hard-hit rate which is one of the best marks in the sport. Fantasy managers should expect Suter to continue to operate as a relief option in 2025 with the opportunity to earn a few saves.

Brent Suter Agrees With Reds On One-Year Deal

Free-agent left-hander Brent Suter and the Cincinnati Reds agreed to a one-year deal on Thursday, pending a physical, according to sources familiar with the deal. The contract pays him $2.5 million in 2024 with a $3.5 million club option or $500,000 buyout for the 2025 season. The 34-year-old southpaw comes to Cincy after posting a 3.38 ERA (3.44 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 25 walks and 55 strikeouts in 69 1/3 innings over 57 appearances (two starts) in his one and only season with the Colorado Rockies. He has a respectable 3.49 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in eight major-league seasons but has only one save to show for it in 464 total innings pitched. In a likely middle-relief role with the Reds, Suter will be off the fantasy radar in the majority of leagues.

Brent Suter Returns From Injured List Wednesday

Colorado Rockies pitcher Brent Suter has been activated from the injured list after recovering from an oblique injury. The left-handed reliever last pitched on June 20 before being placed on the 15-day IL. The 33-year-old has been excellent in his first season with the Rockies following parts of seven seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, working to a 2.81 ERA across 31 appearances, although his 4.38 SIERA suggests regression is on the horizon. Suter has also benefited from a tiny 4.3% HR/FB that is well below his 12.5% career mark. Fellow southpaw Fernando Abad has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Brent Suter Exits Early On Friday

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brent Suter (head) was forced to exit early during Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The lefty reliever ran headfirst into the railing while chasing a foul ball. Suter seemed fine afterwards and even attempted to stay in the game. However, the Brewers decided to be cautious and take him out of the contest. He'll likely undergo testing for concussion protocol. The Brewers could be without Suter for the next few days.

Brent Suter Left Off NLDS Roster With Oblique Strain

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Brent Suter(oblique) was not included on the team's 26-man NLDS roster. He is dealing with a minor right oblique strain. The 32-year-old left-hander was a solid bullpen arm for the team this year. He made 61 appearances and posted a 3.07 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP while tallying 12 wins and nine holds. Lefty Eric Lauer, who was a starter for the team most of the year, could work in a relief role in the NLDS, and the team also has Aaron Ashby as a left-handed middle relief option out of the bullpen.

Brent Suter Gets Credit For Win Against Cubs

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Brent Suter (2-1) picked up the win Saturday in a 4-3 victory over the Cubs, giving up two hits and a walk over two scoreless innings. He entered the game in the fifth inning to replace Freddy Peralta with Milwaukee down 2-0, and Suter got the benefit of the Brewers' bats springing to life after he entered. The southpaw has a solid 2.63 ERA through 13 2/3 innings with an 11:3 K: BB, and he has two holds in nine appearances in addition to his two vulture wins this week. He doesn't really hold a ton of value in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.

Brent Suter Gets Hit By Line Drive, Avoids Serious Injury

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed pitcher Brent Suter (hand) was hit by a line drive in the left hand during an intrasquad game Friday, but the injury does not appear serious. Suter is set to undergo further evaluation Saturday before Milwaukee makes any decision about his status moving forward. Set to be one of the anchors of the Brewers' bullpen, Suter has proven adept at recording outs whether as a starter or reliever during his five-year tenure with the club. Having posted a 3.13 ERA across 31 2/3 IP last year, he struck out batters at a career-best 29.5 percent rate. Check back for updates on Suter's status as they become available.
