Brent Suter Inks Extension With Cincinnati

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Brent Suter signed a one-year extension with the Cincinnati Reds that has a club option for 2026 according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. Suter typically operated a relief option for the Reds but did manage to make two starts this season. Across 65 2/3 innings of work this summer, the 35-year-old held a 3.15 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, with a 12:50 BB:K ratio. Under the hood, Suter boasted a stellar 30.2% hard-hit rate which is one of the best marks in the sport. Fantasy managers should expect Suter to continue to operate as a relief option in 2025 with the opportunity to earn a few saves.

Brent Suter Agrees With Reds On One-Year Deal

Free-agent left-hander Brent Suter and the Cincinnati Reds agreed to a one-year deal on Thursday, pending a physical, according to sources familiar with the deal. The contract pays him $2.5 million in 2024 with a $3.5 million club option or $500,000 buyout for the 2025 season. The 34-year-old southpaw comes to Cincy after posting a 3.38 ERA (3.44 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 25 walks and 55 strikeouts in 69 1/3 innings over 57 appearances (two starts) in his one and only season with the Colorado Rockies. He has a respectable 3.49 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in eight major-league seasons but has only one save to show for it in 464 total innings pitched. In a likely middle-relief role with the Reds, Suter will be off the fantasy radar in the majority of leagues.

Brent Suter Returns From Injured List Wednesday

Colorado Rockies pitcher Brent Suter has been activated from the injured list after recovering from an oblique injury. The left-handed reliever last pitched on June 20 before being placed on the 15-day IL. The 33-year-old has been excellent in his first season with the Rockies following parts of seven seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, working to a 2.81 ERA across 31 appearances, although his 4.38 SIERA suggests regression is on the horizon. Suter has also benefited from a tiny 4.3% HR/FB that is well below his 12.5% career mark. Fellow southpaw Fernando Abad has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Brent Suter Exits Early On Friday

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brent Suter (head) was forced to exit early during Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The lefty reliever ran headfirst into the railing while chasing a foul ball. Suter seemed fine afterwards and even attempted to stay in the game. However, the Brewers decided to be cautious and take him out of the contest. He'll likely undergo testing for concussion protocol. The Brewers could be without Suter for the next few days.

Brent Suter Left Off NLDS Roster With Oblique Strain

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Brent Suter(oblique) was not included on the team's 26-man NLDS roster. He is dealing with a minor right oblique strain. The 32-year-old left-hander was a solid bullpen arm for the team this year. He made 61 appearances and posted a 3.07 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP while tallying 12 wins and nine holds. Lefty Eric Lauer, who was a starter for the team most of the year, could work in a relief role in the NLDS, and the team also has Aaron Ashby as a left-handed middle relief option out of the bullpen.

Brent Suter Gets Credit For Win Against Cubs

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Brent Suter (2-1) picked up the win Saturday in a 4-3 victory over the Cubs, giving up two hits and a walk over two scoreless innings. He entered the game in the fifth inning to replace Freddy Peralta with Milwaukee down 2-0, and Suter got the benefit of the Brewers' bats springing to life after he entered. The southpaw has a solid 2.63 ERA through 13 2/3 innings with an 11:3 K: BB, and he has two holds in nine appearances in addition to his two vulture wins this week. He doesn't really hold a ton of value in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.

Brent Suter Gets Hit By Line Drive, Avoids Serious Injury

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed pitcher Brent Suter (hand) was hit by a line drive in the left hand during an intrasquad game Friday, but the injury does not appear serious. Suter is set to undergo further evaluation Saturday before Milwaukee makes any decision about his status moving forward. Set to be one of the anchors of the Brewers' bullpen, Suter has proven adept at recording outs whether as a starter or reliever during his five-year tenure with the club. Having posted a 3.13 ERA across 31 2/3 IP last year, he struck out batters at a career-best 29.5 percent rate. Check back for updates on Suter's status as they become available.

Milwaukee Scratches Brett Anderson Saturday, Tabs Brent Suter

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson was scratched from his start Saturday against the Cubs due to right hip tightness. The team will instead send southpaw Brent Suter to the mound for his second start of the season. The deepest that Suter has gone into a game this year came during his first start (Aug. 31), when he was able to ramp up to 50 pitches; he is likely in a similar range Saturday. Anderson could be available during the teams upcoming series against St. Louis, with manager Craig Counsell merely moving the clubs planned bullpen day up to Saturday.

Brent Suter Starts Monday Amid Bullpen Day For Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers will go with a bullpen day Monday against the Pirates with left-hander Brent Suter making the start. Suter -- and the pitchers who follow him -- will have little season-long or DFS value as the club is expected to deploy its relief arsenal for the entirety of the contest. The start will mark Suters first since 2018, although his pitch count has topped out at 45 pitches this season, never going further than 2 frames. Despite the Brewers perceived susceptibility, Pittsburgh has posted a league-worst .583 OPS as a club on the road this year.

Brent Suter Aiming For Mid-2019 Return

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brent Suter (elbow) is aiming to return halfway through the 2019 season from his Tommy John surgery. While this is just a goal he's set for himself, it's often very tough to predict how long a player will be gone after Tommy John surgery, but it's safe to say he will be gone for at least the rest of the 2018 season. Suter finished off the year with an 8-7 record, 4.49 ERA, and 84 strikeouts in 101 1/3 innings. He will hold no fantasy value for the foreseeable future.
