Anthony Volpe Reinstated From Injured List, Optioned to Triple-A

According to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, the New York Yankees have activated shortstop Anthony Volpe (elbow) from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A. Volpe was expected to take on the starting shortstop role in the Bronx ahead of his return from injury, but the Yankees will instead keep him in the minor leagues for the time being. During his 13-game rehab assignment with Double-A and Triple-A, the former top prospect held a .250/.306/.318 slash line with one home run and two stolen bases. Volpe was held out of action early in the season while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Last season, the infielder held a low .212 AVG but showed upside in the power and speed departments, hitting 19 home runs with swiping 18 bags. For the time being, Jose Caballero figures to be the primary shortstop and is worth adding in all standard formats.

Anthony Volpe Won't Rejoin the Yankees on Friday

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) will not come off the 10-day injured list to join the big-league club for their series opener on Friday in the Bronx against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. Volpe is getting very close to making his 2026 season debut for the Yanks, but he's not quite ready and might not return to the team until early next week. The 25-year-old former first-rounder in 2019 is recovering from surgery to fix the labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder in the offseason. He's played in 10 minor-league rehab games with Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and has gone 10-for-33 (.303) with a homer, three RBI, five runs scored, and two stolen bases. When Volpe is back with the Yankees, he'll take over as the team's starting shortstop, which will push Jose Caballero back to a utility role. Volpe is only rostered in 9% of Yahoo leagues, but that number should go up considerably once he's back. Don't expect a high average, but Volpe can be useful for his counting stats in a strong Yankees lineup. UPDATE: Manager Aaron Boone said that Volpe will remain on his rehab assignment through the weekend.

Anthony Volpe Might Not Return This Week

The New York Yankees have not decided if shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) will be with the big-league club this weekend when they play the division-rival Baltimore Orioles in the Bronx, according to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Volpe is currently continuing his minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset. A report earlier on Monday suggested that Volpe could be reinstated from the 10-day injured list on either Wednesday or Thursday. Fantasy managers might have to wait a bit longer on the 24-year-old, who is recovering from offseason surgery to fix a torn labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. Volpe is currently rostered in only 9% of Yahoo leagues, but that number should be on the rise over the coming week with his return on the horizon. When activated, Volpe will be New York's primary starter at the 6, relegating Jose Caballero to more of a utility role in the Big Apple. Volpe, a former first-rounder, has 52 home runs, 192 RBI, and 70 steals in his three MLB seasons, but he's also hitting just .222 in 1,886 plate appearances.

Anthony Volpe a Priority Injured List Stash?

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) is rostered in just nine percent of Yahoo! leagues, but with his expected return to the big league club this week, that number should probably be higher. The former first-round draft pick had a 20/20 season in his debut season of 2023, and was nearly 20/20 again last year (19 home runs, 18 steals). The right-handed hitter will likely be a drain on batting average, but he's hitting .308 through eight rehab games in the minors, so perhaps there's hope he could outproduce his career batting average of .222. Also, hitting anywhere in the league's fifth-best run-producing lineup (5.21 runs/game) should carry plenty of RBI and run-scoring opportunities. The soon-to-be-25-year-old is worth a look in most 12-team mixed leagues and could be stashed away ahead of his return.

Anthony Volpe Expected to Rejoin Yankees on Wednesday or Thursday

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) is expected to play a couple more minor-league rehab games with Double-A Somerset before joining the Yankees between Wednesday and Thursday, according to Francys Romero. Volpe is close to being reinstated from the 10-day injured list this week. The 24-year-old played through a torn labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder for most of last year before having surgery in the offseason. In eight rehab games with Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Volpe has looked good at the plate, going 8-for-26 (.308) with a home run, three RBI, five runs scored, and two stolen bases in 27 plate appearances. Don't be surprised if Volpe doesn't actually make his 2026 season debut for the Yanks until this Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. When he does return, it will mean less playing time for the speedy Jose Caballero. Volpe has hit just .222/.283/.379 in his three big-league seasons across 472 games played, but he has a 20-20 season in 2023 as a rookie and can provide decent counting stats as a middle infielder for fantasy managers in mixed leagues. Volpe is currently only rostered in 8% of Yahoo leagues.

Anthony Volpe 10-14 Days Away From Season Debut With Yanks

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Foul Territory on Wednesday that shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) has had "zero issues" with his surgically-repaired left (non-throwing) shoulder over the last couple of months. "Realistically, he's still 10 days [or] two weeks away, I would think," Boone said. Volpe played most of last year with a torn labrum in his left shoulder, but he still managed to hit 19 home runs, drive in 72 runs, and steal 18 bases in 153 regular-season games. He has gone 6-for-15 with a home run and two stolen bases in his five minor-league rehab games with Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Volpe is getting very close to making his 2026 season debut, but the Yankees aren't going to rush him back, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be back until the calendar flips to May. The 24-year-old is only rostered in 8% of Yahoo leagues right now, but that number should increase in the coming weeks as he nears reinstatement from the 10-day IL. Volpe should take over starting duties at the 6 in the Bronx from Jose Caballeros when he's ready.

Anthony Volpe Moving his Rehab Assignment to Triple-A

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) is having his minor-league rehab assignment moved from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, according to the team. Volpe continues to rehab from offseason surgery to repair the labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder, but he's getting closer to making his 2026 debut with the Yanks and could rejoin the big-league roster right around May 1. In his four rehab games with Somerset, Volpe went 4-for-11 with two stolen bases. The 24-year-old is currently rostered in just 8% of Yahoo leagues, so he's widely available with May quickly approaching. The former first-rounder in 2019 may not be a high-end shortstop in fantasy, but he's at least worth grabbing off the waiver wire soon in deep-mixed leagues as New York's starting shortstop when he's healthy. The speedy Jose Caballeros will continue to start at the 6 in the Bronx until Volpe is reinstated. Volpe has a career .222/.283/.379 slash line in his three MLB seasons, and he was a 20-20 player in his rookie campaign in 2023.

Anthony Volpe to Start a Rehab Assignment on Tuesday

The plan for now is for New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Double-A Somerset, according to Erik Boland of Newsday. Volpe damaged his left (non-throwing) labrum last May while diving for a ball at shortstop, and he managed to play through it while receiving occasional pain-relieving injections. Because the 24-year-old has not played since the playoffs last fall, fantasy managers should expect his rehab assignment to be lengthy. Barring a setback, Volpe could be ready to make his 2026 season debut around the beginning of May. The speedy Jose Caballero will continue to operate as the Yankees' primary shortstop with Volpe on the IL, but he'll shift to a utility role when Volpe is eventually activated. Volpe had a 20-20 campaign in his rookie season in 2023 and has at least 20 steals in two of his three seasons, but he's also hit .222 with a .283 on-base percentage in three big-league seasons.

Anthony Volpe Could Start Rehab Assignment Next Week

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) will likely come back with the team after their weekend series in Tampa, and he could "potentially" be sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment at some point next week, according to Erik Boland of Newsday. Volpe played through a torn labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder for the majority of last season before undergoing labrum surgery last October. He has been working out at extended spring training in Florida. If Volpe can avoid any setbacks with his surgically repaired shoulder in minor-league games, he could make his 2026 debut with the Yankees in late April or early May. Until then, the speedy Jose Caballero will continue to see most of the playing time at the 6 in the Bronx. The 24-year-old Volpe is a career .222/.283/.379 hitter in his three big-league seasons, but he had a 20-20 season as a rookie in 2023, and he's stolen 70 bases in 472 regular-season games played, making him useful as middle-infield depth for fantasy managers in mixed leagues when he's healthy.

Anthony Volpe to Take Live Batting Practice Soon

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe (shoulder) has been hitting off the Trajekt pitching machine and will advance to live batting practice soon, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. The Yankees put Volpe on the 10-day injured list to begin the 2026 campaign after he had surgery to fix the labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder last October. He has been brought along slowly, but he could be cleared to start a minor-league rehab assignment in the second week of April. The most likely scenario is that Volpe will be ready to make his 2026 season debut at some point in early May, barring a setback. The former first-rounder in 2019 hit just .212 (114-for-539) and managed to hit 19 home runs and steal 18 bases in 153 regular-season games despite dealing with a labrum tear for the majority of the season. Until he's ready to return, the speedy Jose Caballero will be the Yankees' primary shortstop. Volpe is rostered in just 7% of Yahoo leagues right now. UPDATE: Volpe will take live batting practice on Wednesday.
