Jose Soriano Scheduled to Make Blue Jays Debut on Friday

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that starting pitcher Jose Soriano will make his debut with the team on Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. Toronto acquired Soriano from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for three prospects on Monday. The 27-year-old has had a strong 2026 season to this point, recording a 9-6 record with a 3.29 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 127 strikeouts across 123 innings (22 starts). Soriano struggles with command (11.2% walk rate), but he generates ground balls with his power sinker and is very difficult to take deep (0.88 HR/9). He also brings plus velocity with his fastballs, so Toronto may be able to help unlock a new level of strikeout production from its new right-hander.

Jose Soriano Traded to Blue Jays

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Los Angeles Angels traded starting pitcher Jose Soriano to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for top infield prospect Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie Micheletti, and right-handed pitcher Angel Rivero. Even though the Blue Jays opted to part ways with veteran right-hander Kevin Gausman on Sunday evening, they are keeping the door open to potentially compete as a Wild Card team in 2026 by adding a piece to their rotation. Soriano has enjoyed a strong season in Los Angeles, logging 123 innings to the tune of a 3.29 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. His 11.2% walk rate has inflated his ratios but has managed to generate a high-end 31.4% whiff rate with a 24.9% K%. In return, the Blue Jays are sending their No. 2-ranked prospect Nimmala, who currently rises at Double-A, alongside Micheletti and Rivero, who both sit outside the top-30 prospects in their system on MLB Pipeline.

Jose Soriano Scratched From Saturday's Start With Trade Deadline Approaching

The Los Angeles Angels announced that right-hander Jose Soriano has been scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers with Monday's trade deadline right around the corner. "Today, Jose Soriano will not make his scheduled start. With the trade deadline on Monday and the uncertainty of the next 48 hours, we decided to take a prudent approach and see where these next few days lead us," baseball operations consultant John Mozeliak said in a statement. Left-hander Brent Suter will open Saturday's bullpen game against the Brew Crew. Both Soriano and left-hander Reid Detmers could be traded by the Halos this weekend, with the team looking at a potential full rebuild after another dismal season in 2026. The 27-year-old Soriano was looking like one of the best pitchers in baseball early this year before coming back to Earth quickly, and he currently sits with a 9-6 record, career-low 3.29 ERA (3.79 FIP) and 1.25 WHIP with 127 strikeouts and a league-high 57 walks in 123 innings and 22 starts. Soriano's volatile command makes him a boom/bust fantasy starting pitcher, but his overall value should be boosted if he's traded to a contender this weekend.

Angels Exected to Make Jose Soriano, Reid Detmers Available at Trade Deadline

The New York Post's Jon Heyman reports that the Los Angeles Angels are expected to make both right-hander Jose Soriano and left-hander Reid Detmers available at this year's trade deadline in early August. Soriano allowed just one earned run in his first six starts of the season, but he's come down to Earth since, posting a 5.15 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 72:40 K:BB in 73 1/3 innings over his last 14 starts. The 27-year-old Dominican is 8-6 overall with a 3.49 ERA (3.97 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, and 115:53 K:BB in 111 innings over 20 starts. Soriano leads the league with 53 walks in his fourth year in the majors in Anaheim. Detmer, meanwhile, has had a solid return to a starting role in 2026 after being demoted to the bullpen last year. The 27-year-old southpaw is 3-6 with a 4.16 ERA (3.21 FIP), 1.12 WHIP, and 130:35 K:BB in 114 2/3 frames across 20 starts. Both hurlers should attract plenty of interest on the trade market as the deadline approaches, and both of them could have a higher fantasy ceiling down the stretch with contenders.

Jose Soriano is Set to Start on Friday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano (chest) was scratched ahead of his scheduled start against the Athletics on Thursday. Soriano is dealing with chest tightness and leg soreness, so the team will give him another day to rest. Angels' manager Kurt Suzuki confirmed on Thursday that Soriano will take the ball against the Athletics on Friday. It looks like they wanted to give Soriano an extra day to get 100 percent healthy. Soriano was unhittable to begin the season, but he has come back down to Earth. Over the last nine starts, Soriano has a 4.74 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and a 43:26 K:BB ratio. Fantasy managers should get him back in their lineups ahead of Friday's game.

Jose Soriano Scratched From Start on Thursday With Chest Injury

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano (chest) has been scratched from his scheduled start in Sacramento on Thursday night against the division-rival Athletics due to a chest injury, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. Ryan Johnson was called up from Double-A Rocket City to make the start against the A's in Soriano's place. The 27-year-old Soriano complained of chest and leg injuries during his last start on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, and he apparently still isn't feeling great. It's unclear at this time if Soriano's injuries are serious enough to send him to the injured list. Fantasy managers will want to check back later on Thursday night or early on Friday for more information on his status. The Dominican hurler has gone 8-4 with a 2.79 ERA (3.88 FIP) and 1.23 WHIP with 92 strikeouts and a league-high 42 walks in 87 innings across his 15 starts in 2026 in his fourth year in the majors. Soriano was nearly unhittable in the first month-plus of the season, but he has come back to Earth in his last eight starts since May 4, posting a 4.67 ERA (4.88 FIP), 43 strikeouts, and 26 walks in 44 1/3 frames. His sell-high window has closed quickly.

Jose Soriano Expects to Make his Next Start Despite Being Banged Up

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano (chest, leg) looked good on Saturday night against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, but he was forced to leave his start early with chest and leg injuries, according to Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune. Soriano threw five shutout innings with three hits allowed, two walks, and five strikeouts for his eighth win of the 2026 season. However, he left the game after throwing only 76 pitches and was hit by a 98 mph comebacker on the right side of his chest by the second batter of the game. He stayed in the game, but his chest tightened up between innings, and his legs also began to feel sore. "We wanted to kind of be cautious with him," Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said. The good news for the Angels and fantasy managers is that the 27-year-old Dominican expects to make his next start. After starting the year by allowing just one run in his first six starts, Soriano entered his start on Saturday with a 5.28 ERA in his previous eight starts, so it was nice to see him pitch well against Tampa. Soriano won't have an easy matchup his next time out in Sacramento against the A's, although he did pick up a quality start with two earned runs allowed, one walk, and seven strikeouts against them in his first meeting in Anaheim on May 21.

Jose Soriano Turns in Another Dominant Showing, Emerging as Must-Start Pitcher

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano has looked outstanding in his three outings this season, improving to 3-0 by out-dueling Chris Sale to help the Halos beat the Braves on Monday, 6-2. Soriano did give up his first run of the season, but worked eight innings with 10 strikeouts while giving up just three hits and one run. He has a 0.45 ERA and 2.63 FIP in his first 20 innings this season with 21 strikeouts and a 0.65 WHIP. Soriano flashed potential in dominant starts last year, but the 27-year-old righty has looked like a true ace in his first three starts of this year and is a great option if you need some help in your starting rotation. He's scheduled to take the mound again this coming weekend in Cincinnati, and his road splits were very strong last season, so you can start him with confidence after his three excellent outings to begin the 2026 season.

Jose Soriano Deserves Some Attention After Blanking Astros on Opening Day

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano got off on the right foot in 2026 in his Opening Day start on Thursday in the team's 3-0 shutout win over the Houston Astros. Soriano was in top form on the road at Daikin Park, tossing six shutout innings with only two hits allowed, four walks, and seven strikeouts to pick up his first win of the year. The 27-year-old has teased upside before, only to disappoint fantasy managers. Still, Soriano is worth a look as a waiver-wire pickup early this year for his ground-ball abilities and high-end velocity as starting pitching depth. The Dominican hurler had a 4.26 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 31 starts a year ago and has a career .3.82 ERA (3.77 FIP), 1.31 WHIP, 22.3% strikeout rate, and 10.7% walk rate in four MLB seasons. Soriano will need to lower his walk rate to tap into his true ceiling. He faces a matchup against the Chicago Cubs in his second start of 2026 next week.

Jose Soriano a Top Pickup After Excellent Start

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano was tough to hit during Thursday's Opening Day nod against the Houston Astros. Soriano threw six scoreless innings, allowing two hits, four walks, and striking out seven batters in the win. It was an impressive outing for Soriano, who allowed one hit through his first five innings of work. The lack of command is a concern going forward, but Soriano was able to work around the damage on Thursday. He did get 19 swings and misses on Thursday, which registered an elite CSW of 36 percent. The upside makes Soriano worth a look as a waiver wire pickup. His next outing will come on Tuesday versus the Chicago Cubs.
