Jose Soriano is Set to Start on Friday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano (chest) was scratched ahead of his scheduled start against the Athletics on Thursday. Soriano is dealing with chest tightness and leg soreness, so the team will give him another day to rest. Angels' manager Kurt Suzuki confirmed on Thursday that Soriano will take the ball against the Athletics on Friday. It looks like they wanted to give Soriano an extra day to get 100 percent healthy. Soriano was unhittable to begin the season, but he has come back down to Earth. Over the last nine starts, Soriano has a 4.74 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and a 43:26 K:BB ratio. Fantasy managers should get him back in their lineups ahead of Friday's game.

Jose Soriano Scratched From Start on Thursday With Chest Injury

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano (chest) has been scratched from his scheduled start in Sacramento on Thursday night against the division-rival Athletics due to a chest injury, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. Ryan Johnson was called up from Double-A Rocket City to make the start against the A's in Soriano's place. The 27-year-old Soriano complained of chest and leg injuries during his last start on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, and he apparently still isn't feeling great. It's unclear at this time if Soriano's injuries are serious enough to send him to the injured list. Fantasy managers will want to check back later on Thursday night or early on Friday for more information on his status. The Dominican hurler has gone 8-4 with a 2.79 ERA (3.88 FIP) and 1.23 WHIP with 92 strikeouts and a league-high 42 walks in 87 innings across his 15 starts in 2026 in his fourth year in the majors. Soriano was nearly unhittable in the first month-plus of the season, but he has come back to Earth in his last eight starts since May 4, posting a 4.67 ERA (4.88 FIP), 43 strikeouts, and 26 walks in 44 1/3 frames. His sell-high window has closed quickly.

Jose Soriano Expects to Make his Next Start Despite Being Banged Up

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano (chest, leg) looked good on Saturday night against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, but he was forced to leave his start early with chest and leg injuries, according to Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune. Soriano threw five shutout innings with three hits allowed, two walks, and five strikeouts for his eighth win of the 2026 season. However, he left the game after throwing only 76 pitches and was hit by a 98 mph comebacker on the right side of his chest by the second batter of the game. He stayed in the game, but his chest tightened up between innings, and his legs also began to feel sore. "We wanted to kind of be cautious with him," Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said. The good news for the Angels and fantasy managers is that the 27-year-old Dominican expects to make his next start. After starting the year by allowing just one run in his first six starts, Soriano entered his start on Saturday with a 5.28 ERA in his previous eight starts, so it was nice to see him pitch well against Tampa. Soriano won't have an easy matchup his next time out in Sacramento against the A's, although he did pick up a quality start with two earned runs allowed, one walk, and seven strikeouts against them in his first meeting in Anaheim on May 21.

Jose Soriano Turns in Another Dominant Showing, Emerging as Must-Start Pitcher

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano has looked outstanding in his three outings this season, improving to 3-0 by out-dueling Chris Sale to help the Halos beat the Braves on Monday, 6-2. Soriano did give up his first run of the season, but worked eight innings with 10 strikeouts while giving up just three hits and one run. He has a 0.45 ERA and 2.63 FIP in his first 20 innings this season with 21 strikeouts and a 0.65 WHIP. Soriano flashed potential in dominant starts last year, but the 27-year-old righty has looked like a true ace in his first three starts of this year and is a great option if you need some help in your starting rotation. He's scheduled to take the mound again this coming weekend in Cincinnati, and his road splits were very strong last season, so you can start him with confidence after his three excellent outings to begin the 2026 season.

Jose Soriano Deserves Some Attention After Blanking Astros on Opening Day

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano got off on the right foot in 2026 in his Opening Day start on Thursday in the team's 3-0 shutout win over the Houston Astros. Soriano was in top form on the road at Daikin Park, tossing six shutout innings with only two hits allowed, four walks, and seven strikeouts to pick up his first win of the year. The 27-year-old has teased upside before, only to disappoint fantasy managers. Still, Soriano is worth a look as a waiver-wire pickup early this year for his ground-ball abilities and high-end velocity as starting pitching depth. The Dominican hurler had a 4.26 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 31 starts a year ago and has a career .3.82 ERA (3.77 FIP), 1.31 WHIP, 22.3% strikeout rate, and 10.7% walk rate in four MLB seasons. Soriano will need to lower his walk rate to tap into his true ceiling. He faces a matchup against the Chicago Cubs in his second start of 2026 next week.

Jose Soriano a Top Pickup After Excellent Start

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano was tough to hit during Thursday's Opening Day nod against the Houston Astros. Soriano threw six scoreless innings, allowing two hits, four walks, and striking out seven batters in the win. It was an impressive outing for Soriano, who allowed one hit through his first five innings of work. The lack of command is a concern going forward, but Soriano was able to work around the damage on Thursday. He did get 19 swings and misses on Thursday, which registered an elite CSW of 36 percent. The upside makes Soriano worth a look as a waiver wire pickup. His next outing will come on Tuesday versus the Chicago Cubs.

Angels Name Jose Soriano the Opening Day Starter

The Los Angeles Angels announced on Tuesday that right-hander Jose Soriano will take the ball on Opening Day this year on March 26 against the Houston Astros on the road. Soriano will make his first career Opening Day start after he went 10-11 with a career-high 4.26 ERA (3.73 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP with 152 strikeouts and 78 walks in 169 innings over his 31 starts in 2025. The 27-year-old Dominican has elite velocity and gets plenty of ground balls, but he's been extremely inconsistent in his three years in the big leagues, making him primarily a late-round flier for starting-pitching depth in mixed fantasy leagues. Soriano has a 22.1% career strikeout rate and a concerning 10.6% walk rate as well. Control issues are the biggest reason why he's mainly a matchup-based streamer in DFS. Soriano has had a rough go in Cactus League action in spring training, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out 10 in 8 2/3 innings over his three starts.

Jose Soriano has Start Pushed Back

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano (illness) has been scratched ahead of his scheduled start on Tuesday. Soriano was supposed to take the mound against the Seattle Mariners, but he will miss that start due to illness. George Klassen will be tasked with taking the ball during Tuesday's Catcus League contest. Soriano has been lit up this spring to the tune of seven earned runs across 3.2 innings of work. Soriano isn't expected to miss much time and should be back in the mix later in the week. The 27-year-old registered a 4.26 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and a 152/78 K/BB ratio across 31 starts with the Angels last season. Soriano is more of a streaming option because his lack of command makes him tough to trust over a full season.

Jose Soriano to Start Cactus League Opener on Saturday

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano will start the team's Cactus League opener in spring training on Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Tempe Diablo Stadium, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Soriano is completely recovered after missing the final two weeks of last season with a right-forearm contusion. Not only will the 27-year-old kick off Cactus League action this year, but he could get the nod as the Halos' Opening Day starter over left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. In his third year in the majors with the Angels in 2025, Soriano went 10-11 with a career-high 4.26 ERA (3.73 FIP), 1.39 WHIP, and 152:78 K:BB in 169 innings over his 31 starts. His stuff is top-notch, and he generates plenty of ground balls, but Soriano holds only a 22.1% career strikeout rate, while his 10.6% walk rate will scare many away. RotoBaller has him ranked just inside the top 100 starting pitchers in fantasy.

Jose Soriano to Miss Rest of 2025 Season

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Thursday. Soriano was hit in the forearm by a line drive during his start on Wednesday. Luckily, the X-rays came back negative, so Soriano is only dealing with a contusion. Despite that, Soriano is going to miss the rest of the regular season. He'll finish the 2025 campaign with a 4.26 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and a 152/78 K/BB ratio across 31 starts. In a corresponding move, left-hander Sam Aldegheri has been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake. Aldegheri has pitched well in the minors this season and figures to take over Soriano's spot in the rotation for the rest of the season.
