Kazuma Okamoto Scratched From Lineup With Knee Contusion

Toronto Blue Jays corner infielder Kazuma Okamoto (knee) was scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup against the division-rival Boston Red Sox with a left-knee contusion, according to the team. Charles McAdoo will now start at third base for Toronto and bat leadoff against Red Sox left-hander Patrick Sandoval at the Rogers Centre. For now, Okamoto should be considered day-to-day as he deals with what appears to be more of a minor knee injury. Fantasy managers should check back on Wednesday to see if he's good to go. Okamoto has really struggled at the plate since the All-Star break, batting .170 (15-for-88) with a .488 OPS, two home runs, three doubles, eight RBI, 11 runs scored, a stolen base, four walks, and 30 strikeouts in 23 games and 93 plate appearances. The Japanese native's power has been useful for fantasy managers in his first year in the big leagues, but the swing-and-miss issues have really surfaced so far in the second half of the season, making him a liability in the average and on-base-percentage departments.

Kazuma Okamoto Back in Blue Jays' Lineup on Tuesday

Toronto Blue Jays corner infielder Kazuma Okamoto (knee) is starting at third base and batting seventh on Tuesday for the team's matchup against the division-rival Boston Red Sox and left-hander Patrick Sandoval, per MLB.com. The Blue Jays held Okamoto out for Monday's series opener at the Rogers Centre with a contusion on his left knee, but it wasn't a serious injury, and he'll return a day later. The 30-year-old Japanese native has been a great source of power from the right side in his first year in the big leagues, hitting 24 home runs and driving in 70 in 427 at-bats, but he's striking out over 30% of the time and sports a weak .225 batting average and .299 on-base percentage. Okamoto has hit just .217 (23-for-106) against left-handed pitchers, with five of his 24 home runs on the year. He is 1-for-3 in his career against Sandoval and will have a lower fantasy ceiling in the seven-hole in his return to Toronto's starting nine for Game 2 of the series.

Kazuma Okamoto Scratched With Knee Contusion

Toronto Blue Jays corner infielder Kazuma Okamoto (knee) was scratched from Monday's starting lineup against the division-rival Boston Red Sox due to a left-knee contusion, according to the team. After being called up from Triple-A Buffalo, Charles McAdoo will start at third base for Toronto and bat seventh against Red Sox veteran right-hander Sonny Gray. It doesn't sound like Okamoto's knee injury is all that serious, so hopefully he can avoid going on the injured list. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Tuesday to see if he's active for Game 2 of the series in Toronto. Overall, it's been a very strong first year in the big leagues for Okamoto, who comes into Monday's series opener hitting .225/.299/.429 with a .728 OPS, 24 home runs, 70 RBI, 61 runs, and a stolen base across his 116 games and 475 plate appearances. The 30-year-old Japanese right-handed slugger has a strikeout rate over 30%, though, and has been swinging and missing more in the second half of the season. Still, he leads Toronto in homers, RBI, and runs scored, and remains a must-start in most fantasy baseball leagues when he's in the lineup.

Kazuma Okamoto a Prime Sell-High Candidate?

Across 324 plate appearances in 2026, Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto has hit .241/.324/.469 with 18 home runs, 51 RBI, and 42 runs scored. Okamoto was hitting just .214 through the end of May, but he's surged to a .306/.378/.569 slash line in June. The 30-year-old's power metrics for the season overall are excellent, as he's logged a 14.8% barrel rate and a 50% hard-hit rate. While Okamoto's power looks legit, his batting average improvement this month may be a bit of a mirage. Okamoto owns an elevated 31.5% strikeout rate for the season, and his xBA remains an uninspiring .222. Between swing-and-miss concerns and his lack of speed, Okamoto may ultimately profile as a power-only contributor for fantasy managers. With his value surging during his hot month, Okamoto could be a sell-high candidate for the right price.

Kazuma Okamoto has Two-Homer Game Against Twins

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto had his first career multi-homer game on Friday night to help his team beat the hosting Minnesota Twins by a score of 7-3 at Target Field. Okamoto went 2-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk to boost his season average to .228 and his OPS to .743. Both of Okamoto's home runs on the night came off of Twins right-handed starter Simeon Woods Richardson. There's been some good and bad for Okamoto through his first 31 games in the majors. He now has seven home runs, 18 RBI, and 15 runs scored, and has hit the ball in the air frequently, but he also has 38 strikeouts in 128 plate appearances, which has kept his average low through his first 31 games. When Okamoto has made contact so far in 2026, he's hitting the ball with authority.

Kazuma Okamoto is Looking More Comfortable

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto got off to a slow start to his big league career. The slugger appears to be finally turning a corner with the bat. Over the last two weeks, Okamoto is 11-for-45 at the plate with three home runs, 11 RBI, and six walks. The uptick in walks is a welcoming sight for fantasy managers. Okamoto is becoming more patient at the plate and is looking comfortable as he continues to adjust to big league pitching. Fantasy managers should've expected there to be a learning curve with Okamoto while he gets more familiar with the change in leagues. His solid play over the last few weeks should make him a more appealing fantasy option.

Kazuma Okamoto's Struggles Continue; Adjustment Period Still Evident

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto struggled again Sunday in a 3-0 loss vs. the Chicago White Sox, finishing 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk. This marks the 29-year-old's sixth game with multiple strikeouts, as he continues to have trouble limiting swing-and-miss. Okamoto is in his first MLB season and was known for an elite contact tool in Japan before coming overseas. He may still be adjusting to increased velocity at the major league level, with his strikeout rate at 42.9 percent. He has shown positive signs, however, with two home runs while slashing .235/.333/.412 in eight games. He will look to make adjustments quickly as he works to settle into Major League pitching.

Kazuma Okamoto Moved Up to the Cleanup Spot Against Lefty on Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto has been moved up to the cleanup spot in his team's lineup for Toronto's matchup on Saturday against the Athletics and left-handed starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs. Okamoto batted seventh for the Blue Jays' opener on Friday with the A's throwing right-handed starting pitcher Luis Severino. Okamoto performed well in his MLB debut, going two-for-three with a walk and two runs scored. The 29-year-old is expected to play a key role as the Blue Jays' everyday third baseman in 2026 after the team brought him over from Japan on a four-year, $60 million contract. Okamoto's prominent spot in the lineup against left-handers should help him rack up counting stats for fantasy managers, and could be an indicator of his potential to move up in the lineup against righties if he proves he can handle MLB pitching.

Kazuma Okamoto Hitting Seventh in Major-League Debut

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto will bat seventh in the Jays' lineup on Opening Day on Friday at the Rogers Centre against the visiting Athletics and right-hander Luis Severino, per MLB.com. The Blue Jays signed Okamoto over the winter to a four-year, $60 million contract to lock him in as their primary third baseman in 2026. The 29-year-old right-handed-hitting infielder looked good at the plate in eight Grapefruit League games this spring, going 6-for-19 (.316) with a homer, three doubles, four RBI, four runs scored, three walks, and four strikeouts in a small sample size. Okamoto was limited to 69 games in Japan last year due to an elbow injury, but if healthy, he has the opportunity to be a consistent power bat for fantasy managers at hitter-friendly Rogers Centre. Fantasy managers who have him rostered in dynasty/keeper leagues will be hoping for a similar career arc as the Cubs' Seiya Suzuki.

Kazuma Okamoto a Name to Watch in the Opening Week

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto was an intriguing mid-to-later-round corner infielder in drafts and could emerge as a start-up option early in the season. Okamoto is slated to have an everyday role at the hot corner in Toronto, joining one of the game's most potent lineups. Okamoto has spent his entire professional career with the NPB. He battled injuries during the 2025 season but was productive when on the field, posting a .327/.416/.598 line with 15 home runs over a short 69-game stint. The previous season (143 games), the 29-year-old held a .280/.362/.501 line with 27 home runs. He has more than held his own in spring training, posting an impressive .316/.435/.632 line with three doubles, one home run, and a 4:3 K:BB. Given his projected playing time and previous career success, Okamoto has the potential to emerge as a must-start third baseman in all leagues early in the season. He is worth starting in Week 1 as a high-end corner infiedler but could see his ceiling rise quickly.
