Ernie Clement Remains Out of Lineup With Hip Soreness

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Ernie Clement (hip) will miss his second consecutive game due to left hip soreness. The 30-year-old is, however, available off the bench if needed in Saturday's contest against Chicago. Manager John Schneider also said that, if all goes according to plan, Clement will be back in the lineup on Sunday for the team's series finale. At this point, the injury does not appear to be overly serious and is something that additional rest could resolve. That being said, if he is unable to return soon, a trip to the injured list could become a possibility. In his absence, Davis Schneider will start at second base. Clement is having a career-best season at the plate, batting .294 with seven home runs and stealing two bases. He has been a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season for the Blue Jays.

Ernie Clement Out With Hip Soreness on Friday

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement (hip) is dealing with some soreness in his left hip and will sit out of Friday's series opener at Wrigley Field against the hosting Chicago Cubs, according to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling. The Blue Jays have been looking to get Clement a day of rest during their current stretch of 16 games in 16 days. Davis Schneider is making the start at second base on Friday and will bat eighth against Cubs right-hander Ben Brown. It doesn't sound like Clement's hip injury is very serious, so he could be right back in the starting nine on Saturday on the North Side of Chicago for Game 2 of the series. The contact-oriented Clement is currently hitting a strong .294 (85-for-289) for Toronto through 74 games in 2026 with a league-high 20 doubles, seven home runs, 28 RBI, 35 runs scored, and two stolen bases across an even 300 plate appearances. He's well on his way to setting a new career high in long balls after hitting just 12 in 2024 in his second season in Toronto. Clement is attractive in most fantasy leagues for his positional eligibility at first base, second base, third base, and shortstop.

Ernie Clement Returns From Illness on Wednesday

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement (illness) is starting at second base and is batting sixth on Wednesday against the hosting New York Yankees and right-hander Cam Schlittler in the Bronx, according to MLB.com. Clement did not play on Tuesday due to a case of strep throat, but he is feeling much better and will return to action as the series in New York continues. The 30-year-old utility man makes plenty of contact at the plate and carries a very useful .287 batting average (52-for-181), but he has limited power (three homers) and has only stolen one base in addition to 16 RBI and 18 runs scored so far in 2026. He hasn't been as consistent in May, either, going 14-for-55 (.255) with two homers, seven RBI, and eight runs scored in 59 plate appearances across 16 games played. Clement has only faced Schlittler three times in his career and has one hit against him. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues are hoping that Clement can get things turned around now that he is feeling better.

Ernie Clement Out on Tuesday With Strep Throat

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement (illness) is out of the starting lineup on Tuesday against the division-rival New York Yankees due to strep throat, according to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet. Clement told Mae that "it started yesterday." Davis Schneider is starting at second base for Toronto and will hit seventh for the Jays against Yankees right-hander Will Warren in the Bronx. Schneider has faced Warren only two times in his career, but has a home run and two RBI. The 30-year-old Clement should be considered day-to-day for now. The former fourth-round selection by the Cleveland Guardians in 2017 out of Virginia hasn't provided fantasy managers with much besides a decent average (.281) in 2026. He also has a .309 on-base percentage, .406 slugging percentage, .714 OPS, three home runs, 16 RBI, 18 runs scored, and a steal in 188 plate appearances across his 46 games played. Clement is also useful in deeper fantasy leagues with eligibility at first, second, third, and shortstop. He's rostered in just over half of Yahoo leagues.

Ernie Clement Expected to Play a Major Role in Toronto

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement is a nice late-round fantasy baseball value who brings versatility and should get regular playing time for the Blue Jays. He actually hit leadoff in their first game of spring training while playing 2B. George Springer was not in the lineup and will normally hit leadoff, but Clement will be crucial to their hopes of going back to the World Series and will likely fill in at multiple spots around the infield. Last year, Clement played 157 games and had a career-high 588 at-bats while hitting .277 with nine homers, six stolen bases, and a .308 wOBA. While he doesn't necessarily bring elite production in any single category, he consistently chips in with counting stats and a good batting average, bringing a high floor and lots of versatility. If you're looking for a safer late-round pick, Clement can be a solid depth addition.

Ernie Clement Emerging as Unsung Hero in Blue Jays' Postseason Run

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Ernie Clement is quickly becoming one of the most underrated contributors in the team's historic postseason run. The 29-year-old has carried over his strong regular season, hitting an astounding .429 with a 1.063 OPS through 42 at-bats. Clement has recorded 18 hits and delivered six multi-hit performances across 11 games, establishing himself as the team's everyday third baseman. His elite contact skills and Gold Glove-caliber defense have made him a steady force on both sides of the ball. During the regular season, Clement slashed .277/.313/.711, marking the most productive full season of his career.

Ernie Clement Returns to Action in Series Finale

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement (finger, shin) is starting at third base and will hit sixth for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Brandon Woodruff at the Rogers Centre. Clement suffered a hairline fracture in his finger and needed stitches to close a cut on his left shin after a collision at third base earlier this week, but after missing a couple of games, he's back in Toronto's starting nine. Addison Barger, who had been playing third with Clement sidelined a few games, will shift to right field on Sunday and will hit second. The 29-year-old Clement makes a lot of contact and is hitting a respectable .273 (126-for-461) on the year, but he has minimal power (nine home runs) and speed (four stolen bases), leaving him little fantasy upside. Clement has never faced Woodruff in his career.

Ernie Clement Remains Out on Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement (finger, shin) is out of the lineup again on Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Addison Barger will handle the hot corner in place of Clement and hit second in a meeting with right-hander Quinn Priester. Clement hasn't played since he was involved in a collision at third base on Tuesday. He suffered a hairline fracture in his middle finger and required 10 stitches, and he has been considered day-to-day since. The versatile 29-year-old has hit .274/.310/.396 with nine homers, 40 RBI, 66 runs scored, and four stolen bases over 131 games and 497 plate appearances.

Ernie Clement Still Out on Friday

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement (finger, shin) remains out of action for Friday's series opener against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. Addison Barger will make another start at the hot corner and will hit second against Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta. Clement was involved in a collision at third base in Tuesday's game. He suffered a hairline fracture in his left middle finger and also needed 10 stitches in his left shin. The 29-year-old didn't play on Wednesday and won't be available to start the weekend series at the Rogers Centre, although he's being considered day-to-day for now. Barger should continue to play third base for Toronto while Clement heals up. Barger has plenty of power with 18 long balls on the year in 379 at-bats, and he's also contributed 61 RBI and 55 runs scored. He has never faced Peralta in his career.

Ernie Clement Considered Day-to-Day With Hairline Fracture in his Finger

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement (finger) underwent a CT scan of his left hand on Tuesday that showed a small hairline fracture at the bottom of his middle finger, according to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet. Clement also had 10 stitches in his left shin after a collision at third base on Tuesday, but he's considered day-to-day as of now and is expected to avoid the injured list. He is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the visiting Minnesota Twins. For however long the 29-year-old remains out, expect Addison Barger to handle third base duties in Toronto. Clement doesn't have much power or speed to speak of (nine homers, four steals in 460 at-bats), but he is a key role player for the first-place Blue Jays and is hitting a strong .274 (126 hits) with his contact-oriented approach at the plate.
