Blue Jays "Still View" Trey Yesavage as a Starter

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitching prospect Trey Yesavage's next spring outing could be another live batting practice session, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. There are "no immediate plans" to get him into a Grapefruit League game. Manager John Schneider said, "We still view him as a starter," when asked about Yesavage's role going into the 2026 season. But it's no secret that Toronto is handling the talent young arm with kid gloves, and he could have an abbreviated start to the season, going like three to four innings per outing out of the gates. The 22-year-old only threw 46 1/3 innings at East Carolina in 2024 before jumping to 139 2/3 innings last year as he made it all the way to the big leagues while helping the Jays make it all the way to the World Series. Yesavage looked solid with 16 K's in 14 innings over his three regular-season starts, and he also added a 12-strikeout performance against the Dodgers in the World Series. His upside will be limited early on in his first full big-league season, so fantasy managers should have Yesavage ranked as more of a No. 3 starter with upside.

Trey Yesavage to be Ramped Up While in Toronto's Rotation

Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith writes that a best-case scenario for Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage is to "have him ready to pitch five-plus innings when the season begins," according to manager John Schneider. The Jays will ramp Yesavage up deliberately, which could mean that he's only going three to four innings to start the 2026 regular season. Nicholson-Smith reports that Yesavage will ramp up in Toronto's starting rotation and not at Triple-A Buffalo. The 22-year-old is one of the top arms in baseball and debuted to plenty of fanfare in 2025, posting a 3.21 ERA with 16 K's in 14 innings over his first three regular-season starts. In 27 2/3 postseason innings, he had a 3.58 ERA with 39 strikeouts and 11 walks, including a 12-K performance in the World Series against L.A. Yesavage threw 139 2/3 frames in 2025 after throwing 93 1/3 innings in college the year prior. The 22-year-old's control needs to improve, but he has as much upside as any young starter once he's fully stretched out.

Trey Yesavage to be on Strict Inning Limit This Season

The Toronto Blue Jays plan to manage right-hander Trey Yesavage's "workload fluidly throughout the season," according to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet. Yesavage's rotation turn could be skipped or pushed back at times, depending on his measurables and how he's recovering between outings. The 22-year-old is still roughly a week from pitching in a Grapefruit League game in spring training as the team builds him up deliberately after a considerable workload jump last year. He is throwing a side session on Tuesday in camp, and his next mound work is scheduled to be a live batting practice session. Yesavage threw 139 2/3 innings last year, including the playoffs, after tossing 93 1/3 innings in college in 2024. The former first-rounder had a 3.21 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 16 K's in 14 innings over three starts at the tail end of the regular season before throwing another 27 2/3 frames in the playoffs, including a 12-strikeout performance in the World Series. Yesavage is clearly one of the best young arms in the game, but there are control and workload concerns, making him more of a No. 3 starting pitcher target in fantasy drafts.

Blue Jays Will Monitor Trey Yesavage's Workload

The Toronto Blue Jays will monitor starting pitcher Trey Yesavage's workload this season, according to general manager Ross Atkins. Yesavage made his MLB debut last season, ultimately accruing 139.2 innings between the minors and majors (including the postseason). This was a pretty hefty innings total for the young right-hander, especially since 2025 was his first season playing pro baseball. He didn't log any game action in the months after being drafted in 2024. While it may seem like Toronto rushed him to the majors, the results speak for themselves. The right-hander logged 11.9 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 between the regular season and postseason, accruing a 51.9% ground ball rate and 3.19 FIP. It's important to note that Atkins said Yesavage's workload will be "monitored," which means the Jays are keeping close tabs on his usage but might not necessarily restrict his innings.

Trey Yesavage Plans to Add a Curveball to his Repertoire

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitching prospect Trey Yesavage said he plans to add a curveball to his repertoire, which already includes a fastball, splitter, and slider, according to Kristjan Lautens of the Toronto Star. "I have a funky (over-the-top) arm angle, so I've just got to play around with it. I would love (a pitch) that moves glove side," Yesavage said. The 22-year-old former 20th overall pick in 2024 started the 2025 season at Single-A Dunedin and ended up what was a whirlwind season as a starter in the postseason for Toronto. He made his first three regular-season starts in September before appearing in six playoff games. Along the way, he set a Blue Jays franchise single-game postseason record by fanning 12 Dodgers hitters in the World Series. Yesavage will begin the 2026 campaign in Toronto's rotation and won't have a strict innings limit. Control was a bit of an issue in his small sample size in the big leagues last year, but Yesavage's upside alone makes him a No. 3 starting pitcher target going into his first full season with the Jays.

Trey Yesavage Won't Have Strict Innings Limit in 2026

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitching prospect Trey Yesavage is not expected to have a strict innings limit during the 2026 campaign. Ben Nicholson-Smith of SportsNet reported that their top right-hander will have no workload limits in his second MLB season and is expected to remain in the starting rotation. The 20th overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft made his MLB debut late in the season and played a key role in their run to the World Series. During his first three MLB starts (14 innings), Yesavage posted a 3.21 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP. However, in the postseason, the East Carolina product struck out an eye-catching 39 batters across 27 2/3 innings. Over 98 innings in the Tornot system last summer, Yesavage posted a 3.12 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, with 160 punchouts. Yesavage projects as an SP3 with upside in all formats heading into 2026.

Trey Yesavage to Start Game 5 of World Series

Toronto Blue Jays rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will start Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, according to manager John Schneider. It will be Yesavage's second start in the Fall Classic after he allowed two earned runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five in a no-decision in four innings in Game 1 last Friday. The 22-year-old former first-rounder from East Carolina was the second-youngest pitcher in MLB history to start Game 1 of the World Series, and he handled himself pretty nicely, all things considered. Wednesday's start will be just his eighth big-league start. In his four postseason starts this October, Yesavage has allowed nine earned runs on 14 hits (two homers) while walking 10 and striking out 27 in 19 frames. The pressure will be on the young, hard-throwing hurler this week on the road in a hostile environment.

Trey Yesavage Gets the Nod in Game 1 of the World Series

Toronto Blue Jays rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will become the second-youngest pitcher ever to toe the rubber in Game 1 of a World Series when he starts on Friday night at the Rogers Centre against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yesavage will be making just his seventh start in the major leagues in the first game of the Fall Classic -- he made three during the regular season for Toronto and three so far in the postseason. The 22-year-old allowed five earned runs on 13 hits (no homers) while walking seven and fanning 16 in 14 innings in his three regular-season starts (two against Tampa and one versus the Royals). He has allowed seven earned runs in his three postseason starts over 15 innings, but he has walked seven and struck out 22 against the Yankees and two times out versus the Mariners. Yesavage has a lot of swing-and-miss stuff, but it will prove to be a huge challenge matching lefty Blake Snell, who has been lights-out for L.A. in October.

Trey Yesavage to Start Game 6 of ALCS Against Seattle

Toronto Blue Jays rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will start Game 6 of the American League Championship Series back in Toronto on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners, according to manager John Schneider. Despite only making three starts in his first big-league season for Toronto during the regular season, the Blue Jays included Yesavage on their postseason roster. The 22-year-old former 20th overall pick in 2024 out of East Carolina showed why he's one of the top pitching prospects in the Blue Jays organization by fanning 11 and walking just one in 5 1/3 shutout innings against the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the AL Division Series to pick up the win. He wasn't nearly as sharp in his Game 2 outing in the ALCS against Seattle, though, allowing five earned runs in four innings with three walks and four K's. The Blue Jays will be hoping that Yesavage can get revenge against the M's back in Canada.

Trey Yesavage Available in Relief in Game 4 Against Yankees

The Toronto Blue Jays are going with a bullpen game on Wednesday against the division-rival New York Yankees in Game 4 of the American League Division Series in the Bronx, and rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will be available out of the bullpen, according to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic. Toronto is using right-hander Louis Varland as its opener and will piece things together from there as they look to clinch the series and advance to the AL Championship Series. In the Game 2 win on Sunday, the 22-year-old Yesavage was dominant, fanning 11 batters in 5 1/3 hitless innings with 78 pitches thrown. Yesavage will probably only enter Wednesday's game if the Jays have a lead in the latter portion of the contest. If necessary, right-hander Kevin Gausman would likely start a deciding Game 5 back in Canada on Friday. Per MLB Pipeline, Yesavage is the No. 4 right-handed pitching prospect in baseball.
