Blue Jays Will Monitor Trey Yesavage's Workload

The Toronto Blue Jays will monitor starting pitcher Trey Yesavage's workload this season, according to general manager Ross Atkins. Yesavage made his MLB debut last season, ultimately accruing 139.2 innings between the minors and majors (including the postseason). This was a pretty hefty innings total for the young right-hander, especially since 2025 was his first season playing pro baseball. He didn't log any game action in the months after being drafted in 2024. While it may seem like Toronto rushed him to the majors, the results speak for themselves. The right-hander logged 11.9 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 between the regular season and postseason, accruing a 51.9% ground ball rate and 3.19 FIP. It's important to note that Atkins said Yesavage's workload will be "monitored," which means the Jays are keeping close tabs on his usage but might not necessarily restrict his innings.

Trey Yesavage Plans to Add a Curveball to his Repertoire

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitching prospect Trey Yesavage said he plans to add a curveball to his repertoire, which already includes a fastball, splitter, and slider, according to Kristjan Lautens of the Toronto Star. "I have a funky (over-the-top) arm angle, so I've just got to play around with it. I would love (a pitch) that moves glove side," Yesavage said. The 22-year-old former 20th overall pick in 2024 started the 2025 season at Single-A Dunedin and ended up what was a whirlwind season as a starter in the postseason for Toronto. He made his first three regular-season starts in September before appearing in six playoff games. Along the way, he set a Blue Jays franchise single-game postseason record by fanning 12 Dodgers hitters in the World Series. Yesavage will begin the 2026 campaign in Toronto's rotation and won't have a strict innings limit. Control was a bit of an issue in his small sample size in the big leagues last year, but Yesavage's upside alone makes him a No. 3 starting pitcher target going into his first full season with the Jays.

Trey Yesavage Won't Have Strict Innings Limit in 2026

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitching prospect Trey Yesavage is not expected to have a strict innings limit during the 2026 campaign. Ben Nicholson-Smith of SportsNet reported that their top right-hander will have no workload limits in his second MLB season and is expected to remain in the starting rotation. The 20th overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft made his MLB debut late in the season and played a key role in their run to the World Series. During his first three MLB starts (14 innings), Yesavage posted a 3.21 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP. However, in the postseason, the East Carolina product struck out an eye-catching 39 batters across 27 2/3 innings. Over 98 innings in the Tornot system last summer, Yesavage posted a 3.12 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, with 160 punchouts. Yesavage projects as an SP3 with upside in all formats heading into 2026.

Trey Yesavage to Start Game 5 of World Series

Toronto Blue Jays rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will start Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, according to manager John Schneider. It will be Yesavage's second start in the Fall Classic after he allowed two earned runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five in a no-decision in four innings in Game 1 last Friday. The 22-year-old former first-rounder from East Carolina was the second-youngest pitcher in MLB history to start Game 1 of the World Series, and he handled himself pretty nicely, all things considered. Wednesday's start will be just his eighth big-league start. In his four postseason starts this October, Yesavage has allowed nine earned runs on 14 hits (two homers) while walking 10 and striking out 27 in 19 frames. The pressure will be on the young, hard-throwing hurler this week on the road in a hostile environment.

Trey Yesavage Gets the Nod in Game 1 of the World Series

Toronto Blue Jays rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will become the second-youngest pitcher ever to toe the rubber in Game 1 of a World Series when he starts on Friday night at the Rogers Centre against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yesavage will be making just his seventh start in the major leagues in the first game of the Fall Classic -- he made three during the regular season for Toronto and three so far in the postseason. The 22-year-old allowed five earned runs on 13 hits (no homers) while walking seven and fanning 16 in 14 innings in his three regular-season starts (two against Tampa and one versus the Royals). He has allowed seven earned runs in his three postseason starts over 15 innings, but he has walked seven and struck out 22 against the Yankees and two times out versus the Mariners. Yesavage has a lot of swing-and-miss stuff, but it will prove to be a huge challenge matching lefty Blake Snell, who has been lights-out for L.A. in October.

Trey Yesavage to Start Game 6 of ALCS Against Seattle

Toronto Blue Jays rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will start Game 6 of the American League Championship Series back in Toronto on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners, according to manager John Schneider. Despite only making three starts in his first big-league season for Toronto during the regular season, the Blue Jays included Yesavage on their postseason roster. The 22-year-old former 20th overall pick in 2024 out of East Carolina showed why he's one of the top pitching prospects in the Blue Jays organization by fanning 11 and walking just one in 5 1/3 shutout innings against the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the AL Division Series to pick up the win. He wasn't nearly as sharp in his Game 2 outing in the ALCS against Seattle, though, allowing five earned runs in four innings with three walks and four K's. The Blue Jays will be hoping that Yesavage can get revenge against the M's back in Canada.

Trey Yesavage Available in Relief in Game 4 Against Yankees

The Toronto Blue Jays are going with a bullpen game on Wednesday against the division-rival New York Yankees in Game 4 of the American League Division Series in the Bronx, and rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will be available out of the bullpen, according to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic. Toronto is using right-hander Louis Varland as its opener and will piece things together from there as they look to clinch the series and advance to the AL Championship Series. In the Game 2 win on Sunday, the 22-year-old Yesavage was dominant, fanning 11 batters in 5 1/3 hitless innings with 78 pitches thrown. Yesavage will probably only enter Wednesday's game if the Jays have a lead in the latter portion of the contest. If necessary, right-hander Kevin Gausman would likely start a deciding Game 5 back in Canada on Friday. Per MLB Pipeline, Yesavage is the No. 4 right-handed pitching prospect in baseball.

Trey Yesavage Starting Game 2 on Sunday

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Trey Yesavage has been named the Game 2 starter for Sunday's ALDS matchup against the New York Yankees. The right-hander will be making his postseason debut here. He only made three starts during the regular season, but will be trusted with getting some big outs this weekend. His most recent outing, Yesavage tossed five scoreless innings with five strikeouts on September 27. The Jays have a lot of trust in their 22-year-old prospect, who registered a 3.21 ERA across 14 innings in September.

Trey Yesavage to Make Second MLB Start on Sunday Against Royals

Toronto Blue Jays rookie right-handed pitching prospect Trey Yesavage will take the ball and start on Sunday against the Kansas City Royals, according to manager John Schneider. The skipper mentioned previously that Yesavage would pitch at some point during the weekend series in KC, and now we know that it will come in the series finale. In his major-league debut on Monday versus the Tampa Bay Rays, he showed why he's one of the higher-ceiling pitching prospects in the game, fanning nine batters while giving up just one run in five innings. The 22-year-old former 20th overall pick in 2024 out of East Carolina went 5-1 with a 3.12 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 160:41 K:BB in 25 outings (22 starts) over 98 innings at four different minor-league levels this year before recently getting called up to the big leagues for the first time. Yesavage will have a favorable matchup in his second MLB start and should be able to rack up more K's, although he might be on a short leash.

Trey Yesavage to Pitch This Weekend

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage will pitch in this weekend's series against the Kansas City Royals, manager John Schneider told reporters. However, Schneider is still undecided on whether Yesavage will start or work out of the bullpen. Max Scherzer, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berrios are currently penciled in to toe the rubber during the three-game set, but Schneider may opt to plug Yesavage in after he dazzled in his first major league start on Monday. The highly touted 22-year-old prospect threw five innings of one-run, three-hit ball and logged nine strikeouts against two walks in a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Yesavage now owns the Blue Jays' franchise record for most punchouts in a debut.
