Spencer Arrighetti Fans 10 in Season Debut, to Remain a Focal Point in Rotation?

Houston Astros starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti recorded the win in his 2026 season debut on Wednesday, allowing one run and two hits while striking out 10 across six innings of work in his team's 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Arrighetti was expected to play a significant role in the Astros rotation heading into the 2025 season, but elbow and thumb injuries limited him to just 35 innings pitched. He opened 2026 in Triple-A, but was recalled on Wednesday after fellow Astros starter Cody Bolton (back) was placed on the injured list. Arrighetti posted an impressive 27.1% strikeout rate across 145 innings with the Astros in 2024 and demonstrated his ability to miss bats in his first start of 2026. However, control remains an issue for the 26-year-old, as he owns a career walk rate of 10.9% and issued four free passes against Colorado. Still, if Arrighetti locks down a regular role in the Houston rotation, he could be a cheap source of strikeouts for fantasy managers to target on the waiver wire.

Spencer Arrighetti Recalled and Starting on Wednesday

The Houston Astros recalled right-hander Spencer Arrighetti from Triple-A Sugar Land, and he will make the start on Wednesday at Daikin Park against the Colorado Rockies, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. In a corresponding move, the Astros put another starting pitcher on the 15-day injured list in right-hander Cody Bolton (back). The Astros are hoping that Arrighetti can provide some stability for their beaten-up rotation and that he can keep the momentum going after he posted a 1.26 ERA and 0.77 WHIP with 20 strikeouts and six walks in 14 1/3 innings over his three starts at Sugar Land. The 26-year-old former sixth-round pick in 2021 had a 4.69 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with a 202:85 K:BB in 180 1/3 innings pitched over 36 appearances (35 starts) in 2024 and 2025 in his first two major-league seasons with the Astros. Arrighetti could continue to be a volatile matchup-based streamer in fantasy if he doesn't improve his control and learn how to limit the home run ball.

Spencer Arrighetti Emerging as a Sneaky Waiver-Wire Stash Candidate

Houston Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti should be getting called up to the big league club any day now, as Hunter Brown (shoulder) and Cristian Javier (shoulder) both have landed on the 15-day IL, and Tatsuya Imai is dealing with right arm fatigue and is considered day to day. The Houston rotation is beginning to look thin, with Mike Burrows and Lance McCullers Jr.currently representing the only starters without an injury designation. Arrighetti was on most fantasy analysts' radars in 2025, as he broke out in the back half of the 2024 season with a 3.18 ERA in 65 innings pitched, but he dealt with an unfortunate injury in 2025, and started the 2026 season in Triple-A in 2026 after a tough Spring Training, where he owned a 6.25 ERA in eight innings pitched. However, in three starts at Triple-A, he's looked fantastic; he has a 1.26 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, and a 12.56 K/9. With the injuries to the Astros rotation and Arrighetti's clear path to a spot in the rotation, fantasy managers may want to look to add him now before the call-up becomes official.

Spencer Arrighetti Starting the Year at Triple-A

Houston Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti will start the 2026 regular season at Triple-A Sugar Land, manager Joe Espada told Chandler Rome of The Athletic. Arrighetti will begin down on the farm after allowing six earned runs on five hits (two homers) while walking five and striking out 12 in eight innings over three relief appearances in the Grapefruit League this spring. It's disappointing for Arrighetti, but it might not be long before he's back in the big leagues if the team goes to a six-man starting rotation early in the year. Injuries kept Arrighetti limited to only seven starts in 2025 after he made 29 appearances (28 starts) in 2024 in his rookie season in Houston. The 26-year-old former sixth-round pick in 2021 has gone 8-18 in his two big-league seasons with a 4.69 ERA (4.45 FIP), 1.41 WHIP, and 202:85 K:BB in 180 1/3 innings. Because of his lack of control and issues keeping the ball in the yard, Arrighetti is merely a stash candidate in AL-only and keeper leagues going into the 2026 season.

Lance McCullers Jr., Spencer Arrighetti the Favorites to Begin Season in Rotation?

Houston Astros starting pitchers Lance McCullers Jr. and Spencer Arrighetti have the inside track on claiming starting rotation spots to open the season, but it's expected to be a top spring training battle to watch. The Astros are going with a six-man rotation to accommodate Tatsuya Imai's arrival from Japan and a busy early-season schedule. Hunter Brown, Imai, Mike Burrows, and Cristian Javier are almost guaranteed to be in the rotation, with Arrighetti, McCullers, Ryan Weiss, Jason Alexander, Nate Pearson, Colton Gordon, and AJ Blubaugh all in the mix for the other spots. Arrighetti and McCullers have the most MLB experience, and Pearson is still returning from a "cleanup" on his elbow. While the competition will be exciting to watch this spring, the depth is outstanding for the Astros since they've dealt with so many starting pitcher injuries in the last few seasons.

Spencer Arrighetti is Healthy Heading into Spring Training

Houston Astros starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti (elbow) doesn't appear to be dealing with any lingering problems from his elbow issues from last season. Arrighetti was sidelined in September due to elbow inflammation, but it didn't require surgery. The right-hander said he's had a fairly normal offseason and feels good right now. Arrighetti believes he'll have no problem being ready for the beginning of Spring Training. This is good news for the Astros, who only got seven starts from Arrighetti last season. The organization is hopeful they can get a full season from the 26-year-old in 2026.

Spencer Arrighetti Getting Second Opinion on Elbow

Houston Astros starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti (elbow) is scheduled to get a second opinion on his elbow later this week. It was announced last week that Arrighetti wouldn't require surgery on his injured elbow. It sounds like he'll avoid surgery, but the course of treatment seems unclear at the moment. Arrighetti hasn't pitched this month and is not expected to be back before the end of the regular season. The hope is that Arrighetti is ready for the beginning of the 2026 campaign. At this point, it seems safe for fantasy managers to drop Arrighetti and get another arm to help them.

Spencer Arrighetti Won't Require Surgery

Houston Astros starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti (elbow) will miss the rest of the regular season, but will avoid having surgery. Arrighetti underwent an MRI which revealed that his UCL is intact. That means, Arrighetti won't require elbow surgery, but he will miss the rest of the season. The expectation is that Arrighetti will be ready for the beginning of spring training. He'll finish the 2025 season with a 5.35 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and a 31/20 K/BB ratio across seven starts with the Astros. Fantasy managers can safely drop Arrighetti in redraft formats.

Spencer Arrighetti Likely Done for Regular Season

Houston Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti (elbow) is unlikely to return during the regular season, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. The Astros are awaiting the results of an MRI after placing Arrighetti on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation on Wednesday. Manager Joe Espada revealed Thursday that the team is "going to have to shut (him) down for a bit," which means Arrighetti won't have enough time to return this month. It'll go down as an injury-ravaged regular season for Arrighetti, who was out from early April through early August with a fractured right thumb. He made seven starts this year and went 1-5 with a 5.35 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, 31 strikeouts, and 20 walks in 35 1/3 innings. The Astros have yet to announce who will start in Arrighetti's place on Friday against the Texas Rangers.

Spencer Arrighetti Placed on 15-Day Injured List

The Houston Astros announced that they have placed right-hander Spencer Arrighetti (elbow) on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation, retroactive to Aug. 31. In corresponding moves, the team selected the contract of righty Jayden Murray and transferred lefty John Rooney (elbow) to the 60-day IL. This is the second IL stint of the year for Arrighetti, who suffered a broken thumb in early April and didn't return until Aug. 6. The 25-year-old has made seven starts this season and gone 1-5 with a 5.35 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and 31:20 K:BB in 35 1/3 innings. While those numbers aren't pretty, Arrighetti did combine for 12 innings of three-run ball in his two most recent starts. The Astros will now have to go without him until at least mid-September.
