The Cincinnati Reds have designated right-hander Kevin Quackenbush for assignment and activated right-hander Kevin Shackelford from the disabled list. Quackenbush won a spot in the team's bullpen out of spring training but didn't fare well in the regular season, posting an 11.00 ERA in 10 appearances with the Reds. Shackelford was sidelined with a forearm issue this season but got through a rehab assignment without any trouble. He registered a 4.70 ERA in 26 appearances in 2017.
The Cincinnati Reds informed right-hander Kevin Quackenbush on Sunday that he has made the team. The 29-year-old reliever will help round out the Reds' bullpen in 2018. Quackenbush struggled with the San Diego Padres in 2017, posting a 7.86 ERA in 26 1/3 innings of work. That being said, Quackenbush turned in a solid spring for the Reds, posting a 3.00 ERA with 12 strikeouts in nine innings. He has little fantasy value as he's expected to work middle relief.
Jarred Cosart Activated, Kevin Quackenbush Sent Back to Triple-A
San Diego Padres pitcher Jarred Cosart rejoined the Padres Sunday and reliever Kevin Quackenbush was sent back to Triple-A. Cosart will initially be used in long relief but could be in line to start again soon. He has bounced back and forth from the disabled list over the past couple of years, with his latest injury being a strained hamstring. Cosart has a 3.24 ERA with an ugly 1.68 WHIP in 8 1/3 innings this season. He is merely someone to monitor in NL-only leagues.
