Khalil Lee News
The New York Mets recalled outfielder Khalil Lee from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, giving the team some more depth with both first baseman Pete Alonso and outfielder Starling Marte injured. Lee was demoted from Syracuse to High-A St. Lucie last month because he was struggling so badly. After a week retooling his swing, he returned to Syracuse and hit .311/.414/.623 with four home runs and 19 RBI in his last 19 games. In 11 games with the Mets last year, Lee went 1-for-18 with 13 strikeouts. If one of Alonso or Marte need to go on the injured list, Lee could stick around for a while as an extra bat off the bench for the Mets.
New York Mets outfielder and seventh-ranked prospect Khalil Lee is being called up by the Mets in the wake of Albert Almora Jr.'s (shoulder) placement on the 10-day injured list. He will be active for the Mets' game on Wednesday against the Orioles. Lee, 22, was acquired by the Mets as part of the three-team trade last winter that sent Andrew Benintendi from Boston to Kansas City. He projects as a starting outfielder with strong defense, 15-to-20 home run power, and exceptional stolen base potential. In 2019, he finished with the second-highest stolen base total in the minors with 53 for the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals. That said, Lee has had contact rate issues, which could drive up his strikeout rate and, correspondingly, adversely impact his batting average. Lee can be ignored in redraft formats, despite his call-up. He should, however, be rostered in dynasty formats as a future, potential OF3/4. The next 10 days could give us an early glimpse of Lee's potential in the majors.
New York Mets outfielder and seventh-ranked prospect Khalil Lee has been instructed by team officials to be ready in the event the Mets call him up and activate him for a weekend series against the Diamondbacks beginning Friday. He projects as a starting outfielder with strong defense, 15-to-20 home run power, and exceptional stolen base potential. That said, Lee has had contact rate issues, which could drive up his strikeout rate and, correspondingly, adversely impact his batting average. Lee can likely be ignored in 2021 redraft formats, despite the possibility of an imminent call-up by the Mets. He should, however, be rostered in dynasty formats as a future, potential OF3/4. The upcoming series against the Diamondbacks may give us an early glimpse of Lee's potential in the majors.
