Kyle Freeland To Pitch Sunday

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (back) is scheduled to pitch on Sunday against the Indians after being held out recently with lower back spasms. I feel good and strong, Freeland said. I really dont think Ive lost much time. I just wanted to make sure I didnt rush anything. The left-hander had his last Cactus League start cut short because of the back issues, but it was obviously nothing too serious. He's made mechanical changes to his windup and has been happy with the results so far, but fantasy owners will need to see better results in the regular season for him to become worth considering off the waiver wire in mixed leagues again.

Kyle Freeland Building Back Up

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (back) threw a bullpen session on Monday and is set for another one on Thursday after he left his Cactus League outing last Thursday due to back spasms. Freeland went 3-11 with an ugly 6.73 ERA in 22 starts for the Rockies last year, a season that included him being sent to the minors. The left-hander said he was happy with the changes he's made to his delivery before leaving his start last week. Freeland won't be guaranteed anything in 2020, and fantasy owners in NL-only leagues will even want to see him turn things around before investing in him. He has a tough task pitching half his games at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Kyle Freeland Recovers Well From Back Spasms

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland (back) had to cut Thursday's start short when he suddenly suffered severe back spasms. Fortunately, it appears a night of rest helped him out tremendously. Freeland told reporters on Friday that the overnight relaxation has led to him feeling much better. He also pointed out that spring training is the perfect time to exit a start early since the point is to be fully healthy when the regular season begins. Freeland was one of the hardest hit starters in the league last year after a stellar 2018. His underlying numbers support that he should be avoided again this year, but he has expressed to reporters that he thinks he's figured out his problems. It's recommended that fantasy owners avoid him in mixed leagues until he can back those claims up with some evidence.
