Lane Thomas to Miss 3-4 Months of Action After Foot Surgery

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) underwent successful surgery on Tuesday. Thomas needed to have surgery to address the plantar fasciitis issue that has bothered him throughout most of the season. He's expected to miss roughly 3-4 months of action following the surgery. That being said, Thomas won't be available if the Guardians make the playoffs, but he should be ready to go in time for spring training. It was basically a lost season for Thomas who only managed to play in 39 games.

Lane Thomas Goes Hitless in First Rehab Start

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) went 0-for-3 on Tuesday in Double-A Akron with the RubberDucks in his first rehab game back since injuring his foot and being placed on the injured list on July 6. Thomas was diagnosed with right foot plantar fasciitis and has missed a good portion of the season, so, understandably, he got off to a slow start. He started at designated hitter on Tuesday, and he will likely start in the outfield on Wednesday. At this time, the Guardians are four games back in the AL Wild Card Race, so they hope to get Thomas back on the team to try and help with their playoff push. Although the 30-year-old has struggled at the plate this season, slashing .160/.246/.272 in 125 at-bats, he owns a career .242/.309/.418 slash line in seven MLB seasons. He also brings a good arm and speed to the outfield.

Lane Thomas Takes On-Field Batting Practice

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) took on-field batting practice on Monday, and the team is hopeful that he can return at some point in September, according to manager Stephen Vogt. However, there is still no timetable for Thomas to return from plantar fasciitis in his right foot that landed him on the injured list on July 6. Even in deeper fantasy leagues, there's just not much incentive to keep Thomas stashed at this point. The 30-year-old veteran has been injured for most of the year in his first season with Cleveland. He has played in only 39 games to this point and hasn't been good when he's been healthy, either, going 20-for-125 (.160) with four home runs, 11 RBI, 10 runs and four stolen bases. With Thomas still away from the team, the Guards will continue to trot Angel Martinez out as their primary center fielder.

Lane Thomas "Progressing Really Well"

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) is "feeling a lot better" and "progressing really well" as he works back from plantar fasciitis in his right foot, manager Stephen Vogt said. Thomas has been running and participating in some baseball activities as he moves toward a potential September return. The 29-year-old has gone through a slow recovery process since he landed on the 10-day IL on July 5, continuing a frustrating season for him. Thomas has been on the IL three times (twice for foot issues, once for a wrist injury) and has seen his production crater when he has taken the field. After combining for a .250/.309/.428 line with 60 homers and 60 stolen bases from 2022-24, Thomas has hit a meek .160/.246/.272 line with four HRs, 11 RBI, 10 runs scored, and four steals across 142 plate appearances in 2025.

Lane Thomas has Complicated Foot Issues

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) has met with a doctor to discuss the next steps needed as he recovers from a foot injury. He has what is considered a "complicated case" of plantar fasciitis, seemingly keeping him out of action for the next while. While he has undergone treatment to help alleviate the problems, his foot has not responded well. Thomas will be out of action for an indefinite period. The 29-year-old outfielder missed action because of plantar fasciitis in May, and then reinjured himself with the same ailment at the beginning of July. Thomas has struggled mightily this season, hitting just four home runs while racking up four stolen bases in just 39 games. It is unclear if and when he will return this season.

Lane Thomas Progressing Slower Than Expected with Foot Injury

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) is progressing "a little slower" than the team expected, according to Guardians manager Stephen Vogt. Thomas was placed on the 10-day injured list in early July due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He recently received a pain-killing injection over the All-Star break. Thomas has had a rough season in 2025, slashing .160/.246/.272 with four home runs and four stolen bases in 142 plate appearances. The 29-year-old has posted the lowest barrel rate (4.8%) and hard-hit rate (30.1%) of his career so far this year. Thomas' speed (32 stolen bases in 2024) is a big part of his value to fantasy managers, so a nagging foot injury is bad news for his outlook the rest of the way.

Lane Thomas Placed on Injured List

The Cleveland Guardians are placing outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) on the 10-day injured list with right foot plantar fasciitis, per MLB.com's Tim Stebbins. Thomas exited Cleveland's game against the Detroit Tigers on Friday in the sixth inning, and this will be his second IL stint of the season as a result of his right foot injury. The veteran has struggled mightily in 142 plate appearances this season, slashing .160/.246/.272 with four home runs and four stolen bases. His 31% strikeout rate is his worst since 2020, and his 30.1% hard-hit rate is over 10% lower than his 40.6% mark in 2024. The nagging foot injury could be responsible for Thomas' fall-off at the plate, so he may need to regain full health before he gets back to being fantasy-relevant.

Lane Thomas Dealing with Minor Plantar Fasciitis Symptoms

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) left Friday's 2-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers with mild plantar fasciitis symptoms in his right foot. He exited in the sixth inning after going 0-for-2. The Guardians replaced Thomas in center field with Nolan Jones and brought in Johnathan Rodriguez to play right. Thomas has already spent time on the 10-day injured list twice this year, including once for plantar fasciitis in his right foot. However, manager Stephen Vogt downplayed the severity of the injury after the game. "We think he's good," Vogt told The Associated Press. "The plantar fasciitis flared up a little bit again and I just didn't like the way he looked running around the outfield. So rather than take a chance, I got him out of there." After averaging 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases per year from 2022-24, Thomas has fallen off during his injury-plagued campaign this season. He's hitting .160/.246/.272 with four homers and four steals in 142 trips to the plate.

Lane Thomas Homers in Three-Hit Game

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas turned in his best game of the season in an 11-2 rout of the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. Thomas drilled a three-run homer, his first of the year, as part of a 3-for-5 afternoon. The 29-year-old averaged 20 homers, 20 steals, and 67 RBI per season from 2022-24, but he has started slowly in 2025 during an injury-riddled couple of months. Thomas has already spent time on the 10-day IL twice, including for a foot injury that shelved him from May 27 until this past Monday. Thanks in part to those issues, Thomas is hitting an unsightly .164/.227/.224 with two steals and six RBI in 75 plate appearances. He's 4-for-14 with an HR against his next opponent, Seattle Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. They'll face off on Friday.

Lane Thomas Activated From 10-Day Injured List

The Cleveland Guardians announced on Monday that they activated outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Will Wilson to Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move. It's unclear if Thomas will be in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the visiting Cincinnati Reds, so fantasy managers will have to check back a bit later. So far in 2025, Thomas has been plagued by injuries, first a wrist contusion and most recently by plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The 29-year-old has played in just 17 games as a result in his first full season in Cleveland and has gone just 7-for-59 (.119) at the plate with three RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Thomas was set to be the Guardians' primary center field this year, but if he doesn't turn things around offensively, he might find himself on the bench more often than not.
