Bailey Falter Starting Rehab Assignment on Thursday

The Kansas City Royals expect left-hander Bailey Falter (biceps) to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday night with Triple-A Omaha. It remains to be seen if Falter will be able to return to the big-league squad in the last week and a half of the season. The 28-year-old southpaw was placed on the 15-day injured list in late August and is trying to return after suffering a left-biceps contusion. Before his injury, the Royals had moved Falter into a relief role, killing what little fantasy value he had. In 26 appearances (24 starts) with the Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates this year, Falter has a 4.45 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 81:46 K:BB in 125 1/3 innings. He has appeared in only four games (two starts) with the Royals and has allowed 15 earned runs with seven walks and 11 punchouts in only 12 innings pitched.

Bailey Falter Throws From Mound

Kansas City Royals left-hander Bailey Falter (biceps) threw from the mound on Saturday for the first time since he went on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 23. Falter has been out with a biceps contusion, which he suffered when he took a line drive off the arm in a 7-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 22. The Royals acquired Falter from the Pittsburgh Pirates in July, but between his injury and performance, the move hasn't panned out so far. Falter has yielded 15 earned runs on 20 hits and seven walks (11 strikeouts) in four appearances and 12 innings with Kansas City. The team demoted him to a relief role in mid-August. Barring setbacks, he should return sometime this month.

Bailey Falter Demoted to the Bullpen

Kansas City Royals left-hander Bailey Falter will move to the bullpen with right-hander Michael Lorenzen (oblique) returning from the injured list for this weekend's series against the division-rival Chicago White Sox, according to manager Matt Quatraro. Rookie right-hander Ryan Bergert will remain in the rotation and make his next start in Sunday's series finale. Falter, who began the year with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being acquired by KC at the trade deadline, allowed nine earned runs on 11 hits (two home runs) while walking five and striking out seven in eight innings in his two starts for the Royals after the trade. The 28-year-old southpaw has a career-low 5.7 K/9 in his 24 total starts in 2025 and will lose what little fantasy value he had left with his move to a relief role for the Royals.

Bailey Falter Traded to Royals

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Bailey Falter was traded to the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. This isn't a blockbuster move, but Falter does add solid depth to the Royals rotation. The southpaw currently holds a 3.73 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 70/39 K/BB ratio across 22 starts this season. Falter has been hot recently, allowing one earned run in each of his last two starts. He figures to be a back-end starter and a low-end streaming option with his shift to the American League. In exchange, the Pirates received reliever Evan Sisk from Kansas City.

Bailey Falter Throws Seven Shutout Innings

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Bailey Falter was excellent on Thursday, striking out five over seven shutout innings in a 1-0 win over the Reds. He allowed four hits and walked none. Falter has been sneakily effective as of late, as this was his third straight scoreless outing, a streak of 16 innings. This was also his third start of the year where he lasted seven innings. He'll carry a 3.50 ERA into his next start, which is lined up to be against the Brewers.

Bailey Falter Good To Go To Start On Sunday Against Dodgers

Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Bailey Falter (back) has been cleared to make his next start on Sunday on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. Falter was pulled after four innings in his last start on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels due to back tightness, but the 28-year-old southpaw was able to recover and will pitch again this weekend. We would recommend that fantasy managers looking for streamers on Sunday avoid Falter against one of the best teams in baseball on the road. Falter has shown strong control (only seven walks in 26 innings), but he's allowed 17 runs (15 earned) on 24 hits (one homer) while striking out 20 for a 5.19 ERA (4.40 FIP). This is not the time to get cute and roll Falter out there against the best lineup in baseball, especially coming off a back injury in his last start.

Bailey Falter Leaves Outing On Tuesday With Back Tightness

Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Bailey Falter (back) was removed from his start early on Tuesday against the hosting Los Angeles Angels due to lower-back tightness, according to the team. Falter is currently being treated by the team's medical staff, and the Pirates will provide an update on his condition when new information becomes available. Before departing the contest in Anaheim, Falter had allowed three earned runs on five hits (one homer) while walking none and striking out five in four innings (65 pitches). It's anyone's guess as to whether the 27-year-old southpaw will be able to make his next scheduled start on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Even if Falter's injury is minor and he's able to toe the rubber this weekend, fantasy managers will want to avoid him in that matchup. He has been inconsistent so far in 2025 and entered Tuesday's outing with a 4.91 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in his four starts.

Bailey Falter Tosses Gem Against Nationals

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Bailey Falter was excellent on Wednesday, pitching seven shutout innings and picking up his first win of the season in a 6-1 victory over the Washington Nationals. Falter allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out two. While it was a good start, the advanced metrics don't really back it up. The 27-year-old lefty hasn't been awful this year, but he hasn't been good either. He has a 4.91 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts in 22 IP. This start is likely just an aberration, and Falter doesn't need to be added anywhere outside the deepest leagues.

Bailey Falter Ready To Go For Monday

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Bailey Falter (general soreness) is scheduled to take the mound for Monday's spring training contest. The left-hander was scratched ahead of his start on Thursday due to general soreness. The team gave Falter a few days to rest and that appears to have helped as the southpaw is ready to take the mound again. Falter was a decent option for the Pirates last season. He posted a 4.43 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 97/45 K/BB ratio across 28 starts with the Pirates.

Bailey Falter Expected To Open Campaign In Rotation

Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter is projected to open the season in the starting rotation. Throughout camp, he was competing for a spot in the rotation alongside prospects Bubba Chandler, Hunter Barco, and Mike Burrows. In addition, right-hander Johan Oviedo (lat) was placed on the 60-day injured list, which opened a clear path for Falter to open the season as a starter. Falter logged 142 1/3 innings with the Pirates last season and held a 4.43 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP. He tallied just 97 strikeouts and served up 45 free passes. Under the hood, he generated a high 4.81 xERA with a .267 xBA which placed him in the 16th and 13th percentiles respectively. Given his low strikeout upside, he should only be targeted in deeper NL-only formats as a low-end streaming option in favorable matchups.
