Lewis Thorpe Placed On IL With Shoulder Impingement

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Lewis Thorpe (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a left shoulder impingement, the team announced in a press release. Thorpe had been recalled to the team prior to Wednesday's game and got the start against Cleveland, but exited in the second inning after experiencing pain in his shoulder. He's made three starts and one relief appearance with the Twins this season, going 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA, 1.370 WHIP and six strikeouts over 15 1/3 innings of work. He should not be rostered in any redraft formats.

Lewis Thorpe Leaves Wednesday's Start With An Injury

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Lewis Thorpe (undisclosed) was removed from Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Indians due to an apparent injury. He was visited on the mound in the second inning by the team's head athletic trainer, then removed from the game after that. His final line for the day was 1 1/3 innings, one hit, three walks, two earned runs and one strikeout. Thorpe had been building his arm back up from a shoulder injury lately. We don't know if Wednesday's injury is related, but if it is, the team will likely be cautious with him over the next few weeks.

Lewis Thorpe Takes Loss Thursday

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Lewis Thorpe was charged with his second loss of the season in Thursday's 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels. Thorpe pitched four innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on five hits while issuing two walks. He didn't record a strikeout. Thorpe's fastball velocity was once again down to where it was during the 2020 season when his ERA was above 6.00. The strikeout potential he showed in the minors hasn't been there this year as well, despite his decent 3.86 ERA. Thorpe shouldn't be considered for a roster spot in fantasy leagues at this time.

Lewis Thorpe Solid Despite Loss

Minnesota Twins pitcher Lewis Thorpe pitched well in a spot start despite being charged with the loss. Thorpe tossed five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts compared to one walk. The Australian southpaw still hasn't quite found the velocity gains he made in the spring- but that hasn't stopped him from putting together two solid efforts when the Twins have tabbed him as a starter this season. Thorpe isn't about to enter the rotation just yet, but his name could be one of the first to be called if a rotation spot opens up for Minnesota.

Lewis Thorpe Recalled Ahead Of Start Wednesday

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Lewis Thorpe was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul ahead of his spot start on Wednesday against the Rangers. Thorpe was pressed into service due to Michael Pineda's sore wrist- and the team sent pitcher Brandon Waddell down to the minors to make room for Thorpe on the roster. The 25-year-old southpaw posted a superb 29.5 percent strikeout rate in 96 1/3 innings at St. Paul in 2019 and will face a Rangers' lineup that can hit for power but is also prone to the strikeout. Thorpe should be on the DFS radar for Wednesday's slate as a low-cost pitching alternative.

Lewis Thorpe Set To Start Wednesday

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Lewis Thorpe is slated to make a spot start on Wednesday against the Rangers. Fellow hurler Michael Pineda (wrist) was originally scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, though the Twins are pushing his start back a day as he deals with a sore wrist, which was hit by a comebacker during his last start. Thorpe was solid in his first outing of the season against the Angels, pitching four innings of two-run ball and allowing a lot of weak contact, as evidenced by his 80.5 MPH average exit velocity against. He could have some DFS appeal against a strikeout-prone Rangers' lineup, as he posted strikeout rates above 28 percent in each of his last four seasons in the minors.

Lewis Thorpe Allows Two Runs In Four Innings

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Lewis Thorpe didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Angels. Thorpe pitched four innings, surrendering two runs on three hits while fanning two batters compared to one free pass. He did generate eight swinging strikes, all of which came on his slider, though Thorpe's fastball noticeably had less juice on it- 89.5 MPH on average after he had shown improvements on that front in the spring. Still, the southpaw pitched well enough to keep the Twins in the game before the bullpen ultimately unraveled. Thorpe could be a candidate for another spot start in the future if needed- or a possible candidate for starts if an injury hits the rotation.

Lewis Thorpe To Start Friday's Game

Minnesota Twins pitcher Lewis Thorpe is slated to make a start on Friday against the Angels. Relief pitcher Shaun Anderson was sent down to the alternate site to make room for Thorpe, who will make his regular-season debut after an impressive spring. The 25-year-old southpaw had a rough 2020 season but looked impressive this spring, pitching to a 2.35 ERA in 7 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts compared to two walks. Thorpe will be tasked with facing an Angels' lineup that has posted the seventh-lowest strikeout rate so far.

Lewis Thorpe Optioned To Alternate Site

Minnesota Twins pitcher Lewis Thorpe has been sent down to the team's alternate site. This was expected after the Twins were granted a fourth minor league option on Thorpe, who has enjoyed a strong spring, pitching 7.2 innings while allowing four hits, two runs, and a pair of walks compared to eight strikeouts. While he'll start the year in Triple-A, the Twins may need the southpaw for rotational or bullpen depth at some point this season. The Thorpe news means that Randy Dobnak will likely serve as a de facto sixth starter/ bridge reliever for Minnesota in 2021, a role that could allow him to have some deep-league appeal.

Lewis Thorpe Strikes Out The Side On Sunday

Minnesota Twins pitcher Lewis Thorpe continued his strong start to the spring on Sunday against the Rays. Thorpe struck out the side in his lone inning of work, complete with five swings-and-misses and a fastball clocked at 93.7 MPH. Willy Adames, Austin Meadows, and Randy Arozarena all fell victim to Thorpe's heater, which has really looked much better this spring. The 25-year-old is making a convincing case for the fifth rotation spot, as he's pitched three scoreless innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Veteran Matt Shoemaker is the favorite for the fifth spot in the rotation, though Thorpe will likely get starts in 2021, given the age and injury histories of the Twins' back-end starters.
