Magneuris Sierra Reaches Base Three Times On Friday
Miami Marlins outfielder Magneuris Sierra reached base three times in Friday's loss to the New York Yankees. With Adam Duvall and Starling Marte both traded and Garrett Cooper (elbow) done for the year, there's plenty of playing time available in the Marlins outfield and Sierra could get a long look for the next two months. He went 2-for-4 with two singles and a walk, batting in the leadoff spot in the Marlins lineup. Sierra is essentially a two-tool player as a guy who runs fast and fields well, but he has no power and hasn't been a particularly great contact guy either. Still, the Marlins clearly see something in Sierra as he's been up with the big league club all season. Fantasy managers in deep mixed leagues desperate for stolen bases might take a look at Sierra for the next week or so.
Miami Marlins outfielder Magneuris Sierra drove in his first run of the season in Sunday's win over the San Diego Padres. Sierra went 1-for-3 with a single, a run scored, and an RBI. According to Baseball Reference data, Sierra is the first position player of all time to appear in 78 games and receive over 61 at bats to start a season and not record an RBI. In his 131st at bat, he finally drove in a run. Sierra may get more playing time if the Marlins deal some of their outfielders before the trade deadline, but he's a defense and speed guy, making him fantasy irrelevant regardless of playing time.
Miami Marlins outfielder Magneuris Sierra had his best game of the season on Saturday against the Red Sox. Hitting in the leadoff spot, Sierra went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two stolen bases. All three of his hits were singles, lifting his batting average to .247 and his OPS to .582. Sierra is best as a fifth outfielder, but he's been forced into a starting role due to injuries all over the Marlins roster. He could be a fun spark plug in DFS formats, but shouldn't be rostered in standard mixed league formats.
Miami Marlins Outfielder Magneuris Sierra is in the leadoff spot for the third-straight game on Saturday against the Red Sox. Sierra has been batting eighth or ninth most of the season, but his elite speed has always made him a leadoff candidate and he's getting a look here with Jazz Chisholm (ankle) still day-to-day. Sierra doesn't hold much fantasy value, but NL-Only managers looking for steals can take a flyer on him as he was a big stolen base threat in the minors. He is a strong punt-play in DFS as he carries the minimum price tag, but will have the platoon advantage against RHP Nathan Eovaldi.
Magneuris Sierra Expected To Make The Opening Day Roster
Miami Marlins outfielder Magneuris Sierra is expected to make the Opening Day roster according to several Marlins beat writers. Sierra has struggled this spring, hitting just .129 with a .335 OPS, but he's out of minor league options so the Marlins would be forced to expose him to waivers if they tried to send him down to the minor leagues. Sierra has speed to spare and plays good defense, but his role as a fourth or fifth outfielder won't give him anywhere near enough playing time to develop any fantasy value.
Miami Marlins outfielder Magneuris Sierra has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a strained right hamstring. Sierra was hitting .278/.372/.417 with four stolen bases. He was starting to develop legitimate mixed league value, so hopefully the injury doesn't keep him out too long. In a corresponding move, the Marlins called up left-handed pitcher Brandon Leibrandt.
Miami Marlins outfielder Magneuris Sierra got the start in center field on Sunday and did well, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He drove in two runs as well and played well defensively. With the other center field options (Jonathan Villar and Jon Berti) struggling to get going on the young season, Sierra could end up with some more playing time if he keeps showing up like he did today. He showed what he could do at the end of last season and has the speed to certainly be a useful fantasy asset if he gets consistent playing time. For now, owners in need of stolen bases should keep an eye on his playing time.
Miami Marlins outfielder Magneuris Sierra has reportedly made the 30-man Opening Day roster. Sierra is out of options, which likely helped him make the team over guys like Monte Harrison. Sierra will likely be used as a defensive replacement and pinch runner at first, based on manager Don Mattingly's comments. Sierra has the potential to contribute with his speed and defense, but won't be much of a fantasy asset due to a complete lack of power aside from the limited playing time.
Miami Marlins outfielder Magneuris Sierra could make the team as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement. The 24-year-old is out of options, so he must make the team or the Marlins will risk losing him on waivers. We think there is a role for a guy who can steal a bag on this club right now, manager Don Mattingly said. A defensive replacement. With the expanded rosters to start the season, it's a fairly safe bet that Sierra will be on the Opening Day roster. He has shown some flashes of possibly developing fantasy relevance, but he'd need consistent playing time for that to be realistic. He'd contribute in batting average, runs and stolen bases if given the chance.
Miami Marlins outfielder Magneuris Sierra has been approved to play winter ball in the Dominican Republic. Sierra, who was acquired from the Cardinals in the Marcell Ozuna trade, struggled in 147 at-bats (54) games in his first real taste of the majors this year. He hit .190/.222/.211 with no homers, seven RBI and three stolen bases. While Sierra has plenty of talent and upside, he could struggle again in 2019 as the Marlins give him even more playing time. The left-handed hitter should be monitored in dynasty and NL-only leagues for next year.
