Marco Hernandez Six Weeks Away From Baseball Activities

Boston Red Sox infielder Marco Hernandez (shoulder) says it will be about six weeks before he can start baseball activities, reported Rob Bradford of WEEI.com. Hernandez returned to camp from Boston on Tuesday. While in Boston, he had two screws removed from his shoulder, stemming from a procedure he had in May. He will be with the team in spring training while continuing his rehabilitation.

Marco Hernandez Returns To Camp

Boston Red Sox infielder Marco Hernandez returned to campTuesday after his second shoulder procedure in a year, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. A week ago, Hernandez returned to Boston after doctors determined that pins put in his shoulder last May needed to be removed. The initial report was Hernandez would return when he was pain-free. Now that he has returned, we can expect he will be at 100 percent. Once the season starts, it is expected that Hernandez will be sent down to Triple-A.

Marco Hernandez Experiencing More Pain

According to Jen McCaffrey, Boston Red Sox infielder Marco Hernandez (shoulder) had to return to Boston due to discomfort in his left shoulder. Doctors determined Hernandez needed to have the pins removed that were inserted into his shoulder last May. "He was doing everything fine and he felt weak or he was sore and it was taking longer than usual and at the stage it wasn't supposed to be that way," manager Alex Cora explained. "We flew him up there and they decided to do it." Cora said there was no specific timetable for Hernandez's return. He will return when he is pain-free. Whenever Hernandez returns, he will likely return to Triple-A.

Marco Hernandez Being Eased Into Baseball Activities

Boston Red Sox infielder Marco Hernandez (shoulder) will be eased into baseball activities at Red Sox camp. Hernandez needed season-ending surgery last May on his left shoulder. His rehab has come along smoothly, but the Red Sox plan to play it safe with his workload early on this spring. The 25-year-old could see significant playing time at second base in April and part of May while Dustin Pedroia recovers from an October cartilage restoration procedure on his left knee.

Marco Hernandez A Candidate To Start At Second Base

With Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (knee) unlikely to be ready to make his season debut until May, general manager Dave Dombrowski indicated that infielder Marco Hernandez is a leading candidate to be the fill-in second baseman to open the 2018 season. We do like Marco Hernandez a lot, Dombrowski said. We think hes a really good player. And all you have to do is come to the meetings to know that other organizations think hes a good player too. Boston also remains open to bringing in a player outside the organization to fill in at second base, but the team also likes Hernandez quite a bit. Hernandez hit .284 for the BoSox in limited action last year before having shoulder surgery and has been a super-utility player the last two years. Hernandez could be a nice cheap option for those in AL-only leagues as a middle infielder.
