Marcus Walden Optioned To Alternate Training Site

Boston Red Sox reliever Marcus Walden was optioned to the team's alternate training site on Wednesday afternoon. The 31-year-old was abysmal to start the 2020 season, allowing 12 runs across nine innings of work. The Red Sox own the worst team ERA in all of baseball, and Walden played a part in that dishonor. He is off the fantasy radar for the rest of the season. Infielder Christian Arroyo was activated off of the injured list as a corresponding move.

Marcus Walden Throws Perfect Inning

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Marcus Walden struck out the side in his ninth inning appearance during an 8-5 loss to Tampa Bay on Wednesday. The right-hander had allowed one run in each of his previous two outings, so he got back on track against Tampa Bay. He registered a save on July 23, just his second of the year so it seems his role is still relegated to middle relief and mop up duty. Eventually Nathan Eovaldi is supposed to assume the closer duties, along with Brandon Workman, so Walden doesn't hold any fantasy value except in league's that value holds.

Marcus Walden Caps Off Rough Week

Boston Red Sox reliever Marcus Walden recorded just one out in four batters faced in the seventh inning of Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay. Walden served up two solo home runs and a single before being replaced by Colten Brewer. Over the past week, Walden has thrown four complete innings, allowing three earned runs, all on solo home runs, while striking out just three and walking one. The 30-year-old had allowed just two home runs prior to June 3, so giving up three in a week isn't a bid of confidence for manager Alex Cora to trust him in high-leverage situations. This Boston bullpen is as volatile as it gets right now, so stay away from Walden in any format for the considerable time being.

Marcus Walden Notches First Save Of Season

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Marcus Walden nailed down his first save of the season Sunday, in a 4-1 win over Houston. Walden struck out one en route to his second career save. He needed just nine pitches, and touched 95 mph in the ninth, but his statistical gain just makes the Boston bullpen situation even cloudier. The 30-year-old is now the fifth Boston reliever to record a save this season, and his 1.48 ERA is the best on the team, of pitchers who have appeared in more than 5 games. Brandon Workman notched a save last Sunday, while Ryan Brasier leads the team with six total. This is a very volatile bullpen, and it's just best to stay away for the time being.

Marcus Walden Blows Save

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Marcus Walden blew the save opportunity in a 4-3 game on Wednesday. With the Red Sox struggling to find anyone who can lock down the ninth, the situation isnt ideal for fantasy managers. Even Matt Barnes, who has been great so far, let up an eighth inning home run to Justin Smoak. At this point, hes the only one worth owning for the strikeouts and ratios. You have to wonder if GM Dave Dombrowski will continue to accept what this bullpen is doing to a very talented team. Fantasy managers (and Sox fans) everywhere would love to see Craig Kimbrel back in Boston, however, that reunion still seems unlikely. Avoid this situation for now.
