Mark Trumbo Hits Two-Run Double In 2019 Return

Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Mark Trumbo, who has missed all of the 2019 season with a right knee injury, went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in his debut in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Rays. The veteran has been a power threat before in his career, but, at this point in the season and given his age, Trumbo doesn't really have a place in fantasy leagues.

Mark Trumbo Nearing A Return

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo (knee) expects to play in five rehab games with Triple-A Norfolk around Aug. 27 and then come off the injured list to make his season debut. The 33-year-old has been out all season after having offseason knee surgery. Trumbo hit 47 homers in a season as recently as 2016, but he's been in quick decline since then and is no lock to hit the ground running next month for the O's. He might be a bit intriguing in AL-only leagues because of his power potential, but those in mixed leagues should ignore him with the fantasy playoffs coming up soon in most leagues.

Mark Trumbo is Beginning Rehab Work

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo (knee) is beginning a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday. Trumbo started a rehab assignment in June, but stopped after suffering a setback to his surgically repaired knee. Trumbo has been sidelined all season, but could return in mid-August. However, the Orioles will likely use him as a part-time player. He won't have much fantasy value outside from AL-only leagues once he's cleared to play.

Mark Trumbo Resumes Baseball Activities

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo (knee) has resumed baseball activities and took batting practice on the field last weekend. However, there are no immediate plans for him to go on a rehab assignment, but the Orioles are hopeful he'll return this year. Trumbo was one of the elite power hitters in baseball just a few seasons ago, but a lot has changed since then. He hasn't played yet in 2019 after having offseason knee surgery, and he's no lock to play for Baltimore in the second half. You can take a wait-and-see approach with Trumbo in deep mixed and AL-only leagues if he ever returns.

Mark Trumbo Shut Down A Couple Weeks

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo (knee) will be shut down for a couple of weeks after suffering a setback in his surgically-repaired knee this week. He is staying optimistic that he will play this year, but an arthritic condition in his knee is also a problem. The 33-year-old has yet to play in the big leagues in 2019 and there is no timetable for his return. Trumbo hit a career-high 47 homers in 2016 and another 23 in 2017, but his knee injury has made him a forgotten man in the fantasy community. There's no reason to have him on your roster in mixed leagues until he proves his health at the big league level. Renato Nunez will continue to be the team's primary designated hitter.

Mark Trumbo Suffers Setback

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo (knee) felt soreness in his surgically-repaired right knee again and was scratched from the lineup at Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. He was given a platelet-rich plasma injection in the knee, and manager Brandon Hyde said that Trumbo would be shut down for seven to 10 days. It's frustrating since Trumbo was in the final stages of his 20-day rehab window. In eight games for Norfolk he was 6-for-28 (.214) with a home run and two RBI. The 33-year-old is in the final year of his three-year, $37.5 million deal and can provide some pop in AL-only leagues when he's healthy. With Renato Nunez seeing most of the time at designated hitter, too, Trumbo might struggle for regular playing time when he makes his season debut.

Mark Trumbo Could Return This Weekend

Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Mark Trumbo (knee) could return to the active roster this weekend if everything goes right. Trumbo is rehabbing his surgically-repaired right knee in Triple-A right now. He should be activated this weekend, assuming Trumbo doesn't suffer any setbacks. Renato Nunez has been playing well in the designated hitter role this season. Trumbo might be forced into a part-time player role, which will severely hurt his fantasy value.

Mark Trumbo Could Return This Week

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo (knee) was in Baltimore on Monday to have his knee checked by head athletic trainer Brian Ebel, and the team must decide whether to activate him from the injured list if he's deemed ready. Trumbo's injury rehab assignment ends on June 16. The bad news for Trumbo is that Baltimore has only a three-man bench and a primary designated hitter in Renato Nunez, so he may not see much consistent playing time upon making his season debut this year after having offseason knee surgery. Trumbo has shown elite power in the past, but he'll need to prove that he's healthy and get enough playing time before owners in deep mixed leagues will consider picking him up off the waiver wire.

Mark Trumbo Moves Rehab To Triple-A

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo (knee) joined Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday on his rehab assignment. Trumbo has gone 3-for-13 with a double in three games on his rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie, and he's getting closer to making his season debut for the O's. It'll likely come later this month. Trumbo, 33, played in only 90 games in 2018 because of his knee, but don't forget that he had 23 home runs in 2017 and a career-high 47 for Baltimore back in 2017. While he won't be an elite source of power like that, Trumbo could be useful for his pop in the second half in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Mark Trumbo To Start Rehab Assignment Tuesday

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo (knee) said he'll start a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on Tuesday. The hope is that his surgically repaired right knee responds well enough for him to be re-evaluated in mid-June. Trumbo hasn't had any pain in his knee while at extended spring training, so that's a good sign. Those in deeper mixed leagues in need of some pop in their lineups might want to keep an eye on Trumbo as he nears a return to the big leagues. He won't hit for much average, but don't forget that he clubbed 47 home runs just a few seasons ago.
